If you disagree with a liberal then you are a Russian computer program who is merely pretending to be a real person. If you disagree with a conservative then you are a golum animated by Satanic magick and should be killed to prevent you from maintaining a humanoid form.
Some study with dubious methodology released a paper that stated that 25% of people did not have inner monologue, and were close to what is known as philosophical zombies. They look human, act human, but they are apparently not really conscious. If life were a video game, then these people would be "NPC's"; pre-programmed background characters. This study then went viral on 4chan, where people were accusing others of being NPC's, because they just regurgitate whatever is in vogue. Each 4chan board had their own version of the NPC. /fit/ had the NPC that does predictable chest days (Bench press, incline bench press, dips, chest flies, triceps isolation). /tv/ has the marvel and star wars faggots. Now the problems begin with /pol/, because /pol/'s version of the NPC is basically a liberal/leftist who repeats mindless platitudes without really thinking about it. It turns out that quite many liberals can be easily predicted using a couple of simple If/then statements, which really pissess them off, because it robs them of their sense of intellectual superiority. This is why several news outlets have published papers on why this NPC meme is dangerous and dehumanizing; because it hits too close to home.
I read the "research" behind it and I just thought "yeah people are gonna use this a lot" I think it's funny don't really care about much else relating to it
It’s a meme meant to mock the way many hard leftists act. Many can only give a simple response and can’t stand up to even a follow-up question. Seriously, in anti-Trump protests, you’ll see so many interviews go like this:
rtards who regularly refer to themselves as robots are calling rtards they disagree with NPCs, the rtards being called NPCs are flipping their shit because of how dehumanizing it is despite calling anyone they disagree with Russian Bots.

It's the new "no u" for partisan hacks.

is it just a replacement for "bots?"

It is changing, but its original purpose was as a slur for leftoids. The NY times even wrote an article. I'll see if I can find the link.

Hey the Twitter fight against the cabal has given a lot of mediocre people their first sense of purpose in life

It's also the new 'I'm not like the other boys, stupid MUNDANES can't see the world for what it is' for today's pubescent children.

Here's the official quick rundown:

Yeah but that came later on. Most of the outrage came from liberal outlets.

It seems to get people worked up and start reeeeing “No U” so it is cool by me!!

That's not even what the study actually said either
