I want to air some drama out since I can't talk to family or friends about this 😂 This has a happy ending (I think). Names are changed.

I'm a 23 yo girl. I made a friend in college 4 years ago. Let's call her Lucy. Lucy is dating Gabe. Gabe has 3 brothers: Fred, Mark, and a younger brother named Jake. I became best friends with Lucy and Gabe, so I saw Jake a lot. 2 years ago Jake and I started dating.

People want to see you happy, just not happier than they are.

Lucy was super nice when I was single, depressed, and broke, but then I started dating Jake. Suddenly I'm happy. Immediately theres a new apartment, a dog, beach vacations, gifts, and dates etc. I still treated Gabe and Lucy the same, and I did a lot for them. They were a part of a lot of things too like the beach trips, but there was a lot I didn't know yet.

Que the red flags. I started to learn a lot about Lucy. Keep in mind the following is not how I initially perceived things; it's what mutual friends, Jake, and Fred disclosed to me.

Apparently Lucy uses Gabe and treats him like shit, like he's a chauffer/ maid/ Sugar daddy minus the sex. Lucy makes him pay for everything, then spends her all her money on weed and tattoos (she doesnt even have a car yet). She hated that I study physics and "was smarter". She hated that when I had a cancer scare, I was getting more attention. She hated that I was younger (she's 31, I'm 23). She hated that I was dating "the hot brother" (Jake was a gymnast and the other brothers are all obese). She hated that I was contributing to my relationship which made her "look bad". She hated that Gabe hadn't proposed to her yet despite them dating for 8 years. She hated that everything I had going for me was "better", and that I was a mirror to what she should be. Lucy begins treating me like shit: mean comments, petty actions, and a lot of passive aggressive BS.

I never thought this was meant to be a competition. I dont want to be in this competition. I wish I could give her this imaginary trophy she wants, so that all the comments and BS would stop. But apparently this has been going on before I was around. She's been pulling this with his family for years.

Every family event or hang out becomes a competition to her. She'll brag about herself, show off, give me shit, and I have to bite my tongue and ignore her. Of course, the family knows and they try to talk to Gabe, but this a reacurring theme in their family. Lucy is not the only one. Theres Lucy, Mark's wife Linda, their Aunt Tina, and Grandma who are all cunts. Jake's family is so co dependent and such pushovers/pansies that they've let this stuff fly for generations.

Jake is the only one who wont put up with it, and he doesnt want to subject me to this torture either. So we vow to stop hanging out with them even on holidays until they get their act right.

HERES THE SWEET SWEET KARMA

Remember how Lucy hates that Gabe hasnt proposed despite dating for 8 years? Well Jake proposed to me a year ago in secret and the ring is coming in on Dec. 6th. It's also a $5,200 ring. We have a trip to Seattle to see my sister and we're staging the proposal there. I can only imagine Lucy's reaction when she finds out. Maybe she'll go crazy, maybe she'll leave Gabe, or maybe (what I hope for) she'll finally shut up! I can't wait, the suspense is killing me. I can't wait to be able to go to family events again if she shuts up or leaves.

Disclaimer Of course getting married isnt some petty revenge ploy to me, and I don't see this as a competition nor only view the ring as a way to make Lucy jealous. This is just a bonus/cherry on top. We're all petty, and I've bit my tongue for 2 years around her. It's about time something shuts her up.

I've noticed getting p-whipped is a pretty common occurrence in guys who grow up without a sister. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but I have a theory that having a female peer around when they're young helps guys understand women. A lot of the dudes I know who grew up alone or with only male siblings seem to have a hard time appraising girls for the shit that matters down the line or seem to have no knowledge on how to deal with women in general.
