See if there are other similar studies that corroborate the results (if there are tons and tons of studies that say the same thing, chances are it's correct)
See if the study is being published in a reputable journal
Check if the math being used is valid
Check if the math being used can justify the conclusion (sometimes you see studies using results that are not significant enough to justify their conclusion)
Check the sources of data to make sure they are not dubious
Run the numbers again to see if they didn't just make shit up
