Sorry to seriouspost, but I think they were attracted to her for the same reason why we have lolcows, and the additional element of excessive attention-seeking in a culture that values group unity made it a home run.
Yeah, they are definitely into lolcows there. The unity vs. individualism thing might play some part in it, but I think class is a bigger factor. Most people on their internet are struggling to get by, so when they see that kind of attention-seeking behavior from someone in the middle class, it's even more fascinating and outrageous.
The site is still up, but hasn't been updated in years. I ought to go there on some archaeological expeditions to dig up drama. This is one of the best things I've ever found on the internet.
