There's a really great book called NeuroTribes written by Steve Silberman who I found out is sort of a Russiagate lib but the book is great. It goes through the history of autism and really emphasizes the rise of fascism in Germany inspired by American eugenics/genocide programs funded by Carnegie, Rockefeller, etc.. Maybe it is too nice in that it paints Hans Asperger more as a nuanced figure than just a straight up nazi (he is portrayed as reluctant but ultimately staying to work with what he can) but it paints a really complete picture of the cruelties and setbacks of autism treatment over time.
