It's still extremely popular and pulls in a ton of money. Niantic finally got its shit together about a year ago and started doing things that actually motivate people to play.

I believe they added in Gen 2-Gen 3 pokemon as well as battling besides a gym. Last I heard they were working on trading as well.

But yeah a huge drop off happened when they shut down all the PokeMap sites while their ingame tracker was horribly busted. Not to mention people using Lures in obscure places to rob people

Yeah it didn't happen too much but just enough for people to be concerned. I think they caught the kids who were robbing people cause they just posted up in the same spot.

I totally regret not going out there and robbing those kids.

Gen 4 is currently being slowly rolled out

• they've implemented raids and rehauled gyms, plus added more gyms and stops (they're currently piloting a program where players can request more stops)
• they've increased the maximum coin limit you can get from holding gyms and made it easier to acheive
• they've released the past three gens and a small part of gen 4 (gen 4 is currently about to be fully released)
• they've implemented weather and made the biomes less indicative of what you'll find
• they've implemented shiny pokemon (a lot of them are released during special events and 'community day)
• they do a ton of events, including some reoccurring ones like 'community day' (once a month on a weekend a particular pokemon spawns everywhere, it's much easier to find a shiny version, and if you evolve one during that time it gets a special move)
• they've implemented trading and friends
• probably the biggest one imo- they've added quests that you get by spinning pokestops. if you do at least one every day then in seven days you can catch a legendary or rare pokemon. there are also occasionally 'special quests' that require a lot more work that get you a mythical or unreleased pokemon
• they recently connected the game to google fit so eggs hatch while you walk, even if you don't have the game open. they have extra rewards for meeting walking goals

I'm probably missing out on a few because they totally changed the game. I think Niantic forgot about the 'V' in MVP when they released it. Though you can probably only get the maximum amount of fun out of it if you live in an urban area, walk a lot, and are active in your area's community (and that community isn't full of dicks; I've heard some stories and seen some shit where I used to live).

It's nothing too exciting. There were some hardcore players where I used to live, including one guy I shared an alleyway with. He seemed to be under the impression that the gym in the alleyway was 'his', and he'd spend ridiculous amounts of time and energy trying to keep it, even well after he'd gotten the limit of coins you get from it. I would battle in the gym knowing that I wouldn't be able to take it just to piss him off. When two other gyms were added to a public place, he'd sit on a bench there WELL into the night just waiting for people to try and take the gyms so that he could quickly get them back. I'd sometime come over there at around 1 or 2am and see him sitting there, waiting to make sure that nobody would kick him out of the gym. There was literally no reason for him to do this other than to be an asshole. The combat mechanics are incredibly boring (and were even worse back then iirc), so it's not like he was deriving any enjoyment from the game. He simply wanted whatever amount of power was afforded to him by holding a city block's worth of power in a casual mobile game. The experience (and all of the raiding bugs) turned me off to the meta and social aspects of the game until I moved.

Aside from that, I've heard of people getting the cops called on them because they took "someone's" gyms, fights break out, lots of stories of people who form 'exclusive' groups and don't let anyone else raid with them, the kind of shit that you'd expect from a thirteen-year-old and not adults. Apparently some areas have a really toxic culture surrounding the game.

I'm lucky that the community in the area I live in now is really laid-back, and I've been having a ton of fun playing it as a result. The game's a great way to socialize and learn more about where you live if the scene isn't tainted by petty shit like what you mentioned.

I mean the other group is just more chill and also far more knowledgeable about the game. Smaller groups do tend to self-regard better in my experience. It started as a server for people who raid on Gallaudet campus and slowly expanded into the surrounding area and honestly I feel grateful to be part of it.

As for the other drama, not only has she gone to law enforcement, her dad works for a PI firm. But no luck so far. We have our suspicions who it is but no proof.
