And what's Spicer going to say, "Oh yeah, it's all legit!" First of all, he's not even one of the 10, and you can tell Trump wouldn't let him in on it. And second of all, if he did say that, it would just make tons of people bombard him with more questions about it, which he really knows nothing about. This is top level Military Intel at the highest level of Classified Clearance.
Ginsburg said she presumes Hillary Clinton will be elected president in November. When asked about the possibility of Donald Trump assuming the presidency instead, Ginsburg responded, “I don’t want to think about that possibility, but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs.” The justice then acknowledged that the future of the court will be decided by the next president:
“It’s likely that the next president, whoever she will be, will have a few appointments to make,” Ginsburg said with a smile.
but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs.
quite the conniving little libtard that's for sure. Look I don't even like her body of work on the court but let's not pretend that she simply never considered the possibility that she might die with a Republican in office.
She was facing the same situation before Trump was a serious candidate and Rubio/Jeb!/Cruz/ vs Clinton/Biden/Warren/Sanders was the pool of potential presidents.
She didn't let differences in politics, constitutional outlooks, or philosophy stop her from murdering wildlife with Justice ScaREEEa and it's not too far of a stretch to suggest she took the same approach to her allegedly inevitable exit from the bench.
but let's not pretend that she simply never considered the possibility that she might die with a Republican in office.
Ahem.
“It’s likely that the next president, whoever she will be, will have a few appointments to make,”
She considered it alright.
You should really try to make it to the end before you start replying.
Also, I totally stopped reading myself after "with a republican in office". And yes I am aware of the irony/hypocrisy, so don't bother pointing it out.
Then I don't know what you're trying to argue. She might have "bet the entire country"... or she might have made principled decision to avoid political considerations from influencing her retirement.
Meanwhile Clarence Thomas has exactly 2 years to avoid an equal and opposite meltdown by conservatives.
She gave her political opponents a chance to fill her seat on the bench. It may not be wise but it wasn't an "oopsie" and we have no reason to think she's being petty.
That she wanted to retire under the first female president and fully intended to do so, and was smugly and coyly bragging about how stacked the SC was about to become.
I can't help you any more if you can't understand the only thing she's actually communicating there.
Ok, and you can take that statement as 100% serious, or you can try and become and adult and attribute more rational explanations to the decision making of a Supreme Court Justice.
That's what I did when I assumed she thought about it before she made her shitty decision. That was me assuming the best of her. I was doing her a favor.
What I don't get is why people flatter her so much. I really believe that most of those people couldn't name a single groundbreaking decision of hers in the Court to begin with.
You'd think so, but if that were the case the circuit courts would have stopped filing injunctions the moment the Supreme Court first reminded them of the privileges of the Presidency.
Thomas and Kavanaugh are both of the opinion that the lower courts don't have the authority to issue injunctions that affect the whole country. Some of the other justices might hold the same opinion. Get a case in front of the SC making that argument and it may be over for federal judge shopping.
I think somewhere out in space, our mind controlling alien overlords were sitting in the control room bored as fuck, and they decided to turn half the knobs to the max and see what happens
retires
You mean, if she dies. Ginsburg would order her doctors to wheel her to the court in an iron lung before giving Trump an early opportunity appoint her successor.
Arizona and flordia are counted red but dems are trying to find more votes lmao. Mississippi has a special election runoff thats almost 60% red. Thats 54 bare minimum.
BTW can daddy fill Supreme Court now that he doesn't have the house.
Yes, the house is a consolation prize this election.
If you compare numbers for that last 5 presidents, this midterm is actually an upward trend for the second half of first term presidents.
I think Rs lost 20 something house seats? The last few presidents lost 50 or more after their first two years. So it's not total control, or a total victory, however; it means that Pelosi will actually now have to cross the aisle to make anything doable for her side in the Senate. It was the least dramatic outcome and unironically will draw both side of the aisle slightly closer. I think we are going to start seeing some weird bi-partisan shit pretty soon.
Me: Ms Winfrey rimmed my asshole sometime between 1989 to 2018. I don't remember the exact details but I am 100% certain she did this to me. I want her to apologize to me and all the men she assaulted and I want $50 millions for settlement.
I guess really the spicier drama would be if he nominated somebody who had made barely-credible accusations against somebody else. What’s that duke lacrosse team girl up to these days?
It might be Amy Barett, so feinstein can't choose any dudes to make up a false accusation. She's probably interviewing black trannies for the job right now.
Barrett was already the choice a lot of conservatives wanted instead of Kavanaugh, Kavanaugh was a dark horse in the initial nominations. She's the perfect combination of right-wing purity checkboxes and triggering the other side through identity politics.
His supposed next choice is a super conservative female with adopted african children I believe, if he really picks her we are going to see some really out there next level mental gymnastics.
Thing is, the dems probably won’t win the senate in 2020. They went all in in congress for once and this was the result, barely a majority in congress and a loss in the Senate.
Next election they will pay all their attention to the presidential election and the reps will silently sweep congress again.
People are by nature downballot voters. Trump has shown, in 2 elections, that he can encourage massive voter turnout. It will be interesting to see how the election works out.
The problem is, Trump actually winning was the worst thing for the alt-right. The second worst thing is stacking the Supreme Court with conservative judges. The failure of the Blue Wave is the third, actually.
Conservative voter turnout depends on the anxiety about Progressives destroying the country. If it looks all boring like, we won, kept winning more or less, they'd rather stay at home drinking beer on the election day.
Lol god bless you for calling yourself misinformed. You’re actually 100% correct, if it was anyone but Trump. See, most republican presidents become friends with the left wingers in Congress. They work together, make concessions, and have a fairly easy 4-8 years. There’s no fire or flash. Trump is the opposite. He is constantly attacking and being attacked by the left. Not once a week, every single day for the past 2 years. The way he acts, and the way the media acts towards him, makes his base engaged and makes them feel that if they don’t vote, they’re in the fight of their life.
The map is better 2020 but after Tuesday not as much as it looks at first glance.
21 R seats up and 12 D. For sure Doug Jones will lose. The senate is likely to be 54-46, so the they will need to flip 6 seats and lose only 1. Which doesnt sound a lot but there not that many weak Republicans seats up for re-election after looking at election results.
The photographs I've seen she always has a trainer right next to her, so who knows if they're actually unassisted.
Then again, it is true that bones get fucked as you get old. My mother is in really good shape for her age, but she broke a bone in her foot just walking down the stairs almost a decade ago. She was still active for the time and we still go on hikes, so with bones it's not always about being fit.
My dad got pneumonia after fracturing 1 rib and he was 42 at the time. Scared the shit out of me as a kid because I didn’t realize how serious a fucking crack was to a guy who was still into mountain climbing and in great physical shape.
And yes, she can do 10 push-ups. So for her age is in good shape, but things escalate nightmarishly fast when you’re old.
Most people in general are lazy and don't train. Without training it's reasonable to expect a man or woman over 60 to not be able to do even one pushup.
However, with training then all bets are off. I've known 70+ year olds that can bang out 100 push-ups, but they'd been doing similar feats most of their adult lives.
I'm a middle aged man and I can overhead press over 100kg. That's a pretty impressive feat for even a 20 year old, but in my age group that practically makes me elite. The only difference between me and my peers is that I've trained and trained and trained. If I keep training like this, when I'm over 70, I expect that I'll be even more superior than my peers even as I get weaker.
TL;DR The more you exercise, the more fit you are as an old person.
This is why they cried when Trump one. When RBG dies, they are also gonna cry. They set themselves up to expect the best possible outcome and when it doesn't happen they lose their mind.
My mother works in a hospice/elder care. Broken bones past 80 are lethal, but ribs around moving lungs and moving mid-section? My Mom says maybe 90 days if she's lucky. Now my mom is a cooky religious liberal nut, but she's generally fairly straight forward when it comes to medical shit.
Thats just confirmation bias because shes only sees people that are more likely to die than not within 6 months. My wife was a hosipice nurse for a bit and she saw lots of 85+ people with bone breaks dying, now shes an ADON at recovery center and sees lots of 85+ people with bone breaks live.
Well hospice is just a concept and service. Its not something you go in for plenty of people do it at home, sometimes that home is a nursing home. And even if youre in a faculty to begin with you'll still have a hospice nurse and social worker separate from the general faculties.
"I pray for Ruth Bader Ginsburg every day," Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., said Sunday. "We cannot allow one more Supreme Court justice to be nominated and get through the Senate by this president, or we’ll lose that court for over a generation."
"I care about her health because it's politically convenient."
It was the scotch tape trick. Brett and the boys used to pull that one back in high school when they drank beer. They liked beer...and scotch tape. Scotch tape can be used for many things when you like to drink beer.
I hope the evangelicals go to Heaven when they die, but beings they break the 9th Commandment by proxy when they support Donald Trump's lies I kinda doubt they will.
While people are crying and wailing in the streets after a close Michigan was finally called for president trump, how could a Clinton/Sander ticket lose?
Breaking news twitter explodes the notorious justicd RGB had a heart attack and cant be revived.

1 accounttttttttttt 2018-11-08
they'll be between +3 and +0 in the senate depending on recounts that they're likely to win.

Between +2 and +5 seats were picked up They are at 51 seats right now, with out the three lean Republicans races not called
1 drtoszi 2018-11-08
+3 , also the neutral seats are at 3 or 4 if I remember right.
So worse case scenario for dems is that reps could have a 57-58 advantage over the senate now.
1 ExpiresAfterUse 2018-11-08
No. They are at 51/46 with 3 to be decided still. 54 is the highest possible mark for the GOP right now, not lowest.

1 Zeriell 2018-11-08
Barrett was already the choice a lot of conservatives wanted instead of Kavanaugh, Kavanaugh was a dark horse in the initial nominations. She's the perfect combination of right-wing purity checkboxes and triggering the other side through identity politics.

Aren't they semi joking about that in /r/politics right now?

You think Politics actually jokes?

I mean, I don't know if it's serious or if it is someone from Drama being satirical.
1 CirqueDuFuder 2018-11-08
Fair, but it will get upvotes regardless from the members.
1 Baconlightning 2018-11-08
Thing is, the dems probably won’t win the senate in 2020. They went all in in congress for once and this was the result, barely a majority in congress and a loss in the Senate.
Next election they will pay all their attention to the presidential election and the reps will silently sweep congress again.
They’re fucked no matter what.
1 eb_straitvibin 2018-11-08
People are by nature downballot voters. Trump has shown, in 2 elections, that he can encourage massive voter turnout. It will be interesting to see how the election works out.
1 zergling_Lester 2018-11-08
The problem is, Trump actually winning was the worst thing for the alt-right. The second worst thing is stacking the Supreme Court with conservative judges. The failure of the Blue Wave is the third, actually.
Conservative voter turnout depends on the anxiety about Progressives destroying the country. If it looks all boring like, we won, kept winning more or less, they'd rather stay at home drinking beer on the election day.
This is my totally misinformed serious opinion.
1 eb_straitvibin 2018-11-08
Lol god bless you for calling yourself misinformed. You’re actually 100% correct, if it was anyone but Trump. See, most republican presidents become friends with the left wingers in Congress. They work together, make concessions, and have a fairly easy 4-8 years. There’s no fire or flash. Trump is the opposite. He is constantly attacking and being attacked by the left. Not once a week, every single day for the past 2 years. The way he acts, and the way the media acts towards him, makes his base engaged and makes them feel that if they don’t vote, they’re in the fight of their life.
1 poeandfinn 2018-11-08
They had a very bad map this time around. We'll see what happens
1 Awayfone 2018-11-08
The map is better 2020 but after Tuesday not as much as it looks at first glance.
21 R seats up and 12 D. For sure Doug Jones will lose. The senate is likely to be 54-46, so the they will need to flip 6 seats and lose only 1. Which doesnt sound a lot but there not that many weak Republicans seats up for re-election after looking at election results.
1 jamsterDAMN 2018-11-08
8 republican senators were up for election on tuesday vs 22 in 2020. wtf are you smoking?

In regards to the mention that every broken rib correlates to a 27% rise in fatality for the elderly:
"But how many of those elderly patients can do 10 pushups? RBG is not your stereotypical old lady. She has decades of work that she fighting for. "
1 Zeriell 2018-11-08
Is 10 pushups actually considered impressive for old people? I mean maybe if they are absolute cripples who can't get out of bed...
1 20171245 2018-11-08
10 pushups is good for how old she is, but pneumonia doesn't care.
1 Thatlookedlikeithurt 2018-11-08
Alt-Right pneumonia attacks an old lady! Nation in mourning.
1 wewladin 2018-11-08
Hitler really is rising from his ashes.
1 captainpriapism 2018-11-08
she prob weighs like 20 kg though how hard is that to push up
1 tdvx 2018-11-08
10 push-ups is a lot for 85 years old.
Can she really do 10 push-ups though?
1 Zeriell 2018-11-08
The photographs I've seen she always has a trainer right next to her, so who knows if they're actually unassisted.
Then again, it is true that bones get fucked as you get old. My mother is in really good shape for her age, but she broke a bone in her foot just walking down the stairs almost a decade ago. She was still active for the time and we still go on hikes, so with bones it's not always about being fit.
1 rationalhuckleberry 2018-11-08
Fractured. Doesn’t sound like complete breaks.
1 uniqueguy263 2018-11-08
It's impressive for Reddit.
1 Crusader_1096_2 2018-11-08
For an 85 year-old woman? That's way better than average.
1 Red_of_Head 2018-11-08
Even 10 girl push ups are pretty good for your typical 85 year-old woman.
1 Jimbo_B_Beterson 2018-11-08
10 pushups is a lot for me
1 l1ll111lllll11111111 2018-11-08
75% of the neckbeard fucks on reddit couldn't do one. 10 pushups is ridiculously impressive for someone who's that old (assuming it's legit)
1 Prysorra2 2018-11-08
.... actually yes. RBG was well known for being more of a gym bro than Paul Ryan during his PR blitz.
God it's fucking weird to say that.
1 VidiotGamer 2018-11-08
Depends?
1 UnalignedRando 2018-11-08
As always AgainstHateSubreddits doesn't disappoint :
Do they think she's like a terminator or something?
1 20171245 2018-11-08
This is why they cried when Trump one. When RBG dies, they are also gonna cry. They set themselves up to expect the best possible outcome and when it doesn't happen they lose their mind.
1 UnalignedRando 2018-11-08
It's like wishful thinking doesn't work IRL, despite the Reddit hivemind supporting each other in their retarded opinions.

1 Awayfone 2018-11-08
To be fair justice ginsburg has the beat doctors and caretakers money can buy and people sacrificing their first born (fur) children as we speak
1 WeWuzKANG5 2018-11-08
Yeah, she'll stretch it like she has already, but 85 is 85.
1 degorius 2018-11-08
Thats just confirmation bias because shes only sees people that are more likely to die than not within 6 months. My wife was a hosipice nurse for a bit and she saw lots of 85+ people with bone breaks dying, now shes an ADON at recovery center and sees lots of 85+ people with bone breaks live.
1 WeWuzKANG5 2018-11-08
It's a hospice/rehab, pretty common in eldercare, so not everyone is in it to die there.
1 degorius 2018-11-08
Well hospice is just a concept and service. Its not something you go in for plenty of people do it at home, sometimes that home is a nursing home. And even if youre in a faculty to begin with you'll still have a hospice nurse and social worker separate from the general faculties.
1 WeWuzKANG5 2018-11-08
Not defending them, but there's a shit ton. Consolidating elder care saves the companies a lot of money.
