I think it’s supposed to be a joke in the vein of - they know redditors think that they are lame so they are ironically reinforcing that stereotype by saying they watch golden girls marathons.

This also allows them to maintain the condescending smugposting that’s characteristic of power mods bc it implies watching some shitty old show is a priority for them that’s valued over interacting with redditors in a thread.

Alternatively a mod has to lock the post and can’t think of an excuse so they just rememe the golden girls reasoning that they saw from their other power mod friends.
