I'm that faggot who tells people to shut the fuck up in the movie theatre and can confirm it doesn't fucking work. I get lots of snotty "omg mind your beez," "watch the movie, geez!" comments or a "oh sorry!" followed by continuing to fucking talk.
You have either have a bunch of other people speaking up as well, or be scary looking. Won't really work otherwise. I recommend having a black guy speak up instead
I've never had this kind of problem with people talking in movie theaters.. they don't do it where I'm from in the US and they don't do it where I live abroad now.
