I did a research paper this summer on this subreddit and there was a published study that found that 74% of attacks on Reddit came from 1% of source subreddits. I assume that subs like r/Drama are the 1%.

So it's true: r/drama fired first

Oh boy, looks like Putin has run out of domestic political theatrics with which to distract the Russian populace.

Yep. That retirement law didn't go that well. Vlad needs a new distraction

Hey, now, nobody could have foreseen the pitfalls of tying your government's budget to a volatile commodity price.

That's filthy occidental gibberish, Dmitry! Putin would never do terrible to his citizens!

Not only that but the shenanigans he allowed for his security services cornered out much of the tech sector there.

Not as if they have a choice; they're not a great exporter aside military hardware and even worse commerical vehicles.

He does play well with a bad hand, but he's been at the helm for 18 years. I know he has to balance against the right-wingers and Russian tankies, but he's had plenty of time to do something other than feeding Gazprom and pissing in the Americans' cereal.

His major decisions are turning out well so far.

Syria is a dumpster fire and it only serves, at best, as an ego trip and an opportunity to demonstrate Russian military hardware exports. He's let Donetsk drag on for way too long when he could have frozen it out sooner like he did in Georgia and Moldova. Meanwhile, his government budget is still constrained to gas sales and military hardware exports even after 18 years.

Syria was only to keep a smallish airbase and medium sized naval port.

Putin got cucked by chad Assad

medium sized naval port

In a body of water over which NATO has near absolute dominance. The strategic possibilities are endless.

But alas Russia's navy is kinda shit against the other top ten navies tbqhb.

They try their best not to piss off the Hellenic Navy, Air Force, and Coast Gaurd... And their like number 8.

The strategic possibilities are endless.

I found this cool article that describes all those strategic possibilities that are opened up to the Russian navy given its level of technology and readiness in 2018.

Syria is a dumpster fire

It absolutely isn’t you fucking windowlicker, especially compared to what it was a few years ago before the Russians got properly involved. People are actually moving back there now.

Having your entire country completely fucked by civil war will lead to lasting repercussions for decades to come. Russia tied itself to the security of a largely useless plot of sand in the Middle East that it'll end up needing to Iran, anyway. Great job, Putin.

Good thing Syria isn't Russia then.

Yawn... Syria is the Australia of the Middle East. It’ll tie itself to the biggest dick that’ll plough it’s fertile gully. It went from calling Nasser’s Egypt daddy to getting gang banged by Ayatollahs because Sadat decided he preferred Israel’s flat chested white gussy more.

The Ayatollahs aren’t as fit or well endowed as Putin so Syria will bend over backwards and fake orgasms because having Russia as their principal security guarantor is better than having Iran.

Yeah the economy and ruble are doing great right now.

Lol it’s Ukrainians who set this up - but for the same reason. Poroshenko isn’t all that popular these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the result of brinksmanship on the part of the Poroshenko administration. I've always regarded them as just as dirty as the Yanukovish administration and they've been way too stubborn since 2014 than they should be, given the reality of their situation.

In the long run, Ukraine is pretty fucked. The sooner his administration accepts that, the better. They need to be angling to try to "lock down" as much of the current status quo as possible by leveraging the West while working with Russia because Russia holds almost all the cards and they are missing one crucial card: NATO membership.

This has been my summary of the entire situation - Ukraine pulled a Cuba when they should have been doing a Finland. Russians can tolerate a neutral Ukraine, but not a NATO client, and certainly not a member. This is the basic reality of things, and Ukrainians can either live with it or get fucked by it.

It’s like if Canada started angling for Warsaw pact membership. Our border with them is basically indefensible, and it’s not a situation we would ever allow - by any means necessary.

That's a bingo.

Get it right, it's THE Ukraine.

No it isnt

'tis

not

literally naming your country 'borderland'

Yeah, Ukraine got what was coming.

If they'd kept the nukes, they might have had more leverage. Or they might have instigated the first nuclear exchange/this nonsense twenty some years ago. Hard to say.

The tragedy of Ukraine is a lot worse than that. When they became independent in 1991, they:

  • were the Soviet industrial heartland

  • had ridiculously good farmland

  • possessed plentiful hydroelectric power

  • had an indigenous nuclear technology industry

  • an important strategic location between east and west

  • a large, well educated population

They could have (should have) been the Germany of the East, but Ukraine in 2018 is literally worse than Africa, still hasn't recovered its Soviet-era economy and the now AIDS-ridden and chronically alcoholic population is leaving the country en masse.

Honestly, Ukraine should be glad Russia invaded it, they have something to distract from their elite's reality-bending and mind-blowing fuck ups. If I was a Ukrainian looking back on the pitiful gains of the past 30 years, I'd be sick to my arse.

Not to say Russia isn't a shithole either, but the fact Ukrainians are fleeing towards their aggressor is nothing short of pathetic. I'm sure as shit not dying in a ditch outside of Kiev to defend such a servile and slavish 'people'.

The Ukrainian Govt certainly had a Kyiv first and only policy. This led to the country side to fall to absolute complete shit.

That's kind of true of everywhere, though. Worldwide, big cities with jobs are doing well and countryside is going to shit with rusty infrastructure and rural poverty.

Get it right, it's "Little Russia"

Commenting for the future shit show

Greeks had a geocentric understanding of the world? Oh the humanity!

get it right, it's yuukryeenae

Are you retarded?

На Украине vs в Украине.

You piss off Ukrainians by saying the first one and piss off Russians by saying second one.

Pure cut radical centrism

Let just nuke the commies already
