Stop calling them 'imaginary internet points'. They are real internet points. Digital internet points, whatever. But they exist, in a database, on reddit servers.
Well we do live in a cybernetic universe and there is feedback between the different levels in the hierarchy of (((controlled))) and )))adaptive((( systems.
But they are imaginary because they dont translate to anything real. At least with a bank account those fake points can be "traded in" for real tangible money
yeah you're dumb and obviously don't onow anything. "Real" paper money is just as worthless as a number on a screen. It's people that attribute value to it. So yeah, internet points can have value just like your bank account balance and paper money.
Except people don’t attribute value to internet points so I can’t buy anything with them. Even Reddit doesn’t allow you to exchange points for some dumb Reddit gimmick, they are literally 100% completely useless. Say, why don’t you transfer all your money to me and I’ll pay you back with upvotes?
Oh but the internet points have value. Maybe not monetary value but value nonetheless. They let you buy, amongst other things, respect. If you're a poster with over 1 mil Karma, that means you're much more active and valuable to the community than a random guy who has 1 karma and who's been lurking for the past 2 years.
Nobody respects anyone for karma. If you have over a million karma you are likely reposting trash across numerous subreddits, dedicating all of your time to boosting that number and doing nothing else, which deserves and gains no respect.
The one million part was just for perspective. If you're an OC poster (so not gallowboob or dickfromaccounting) and have a lot of karma, damn man, that's sweet.
Y'know, whether the thing is valuable only because the country that prints it is willing to maintain its security to protect it, or whether the money has value because it's shiny because it was dug out of the ground, it's merely a proxy to make trade easier. If I get $25 an hour, I know it's going to cost me about 30 minutes of labor to go buy a burger and fries, and that it'd be stupid for me to buy a $100,000 pickup because that'd cost me a full year and a half of labor. But the Ford dealership isn't going to let me work in the shop for a year and a half in exchange for a Ford F-450; they'll work with a financing company to cheerfully let me drown myself in debt. And they take those worthless greenbacks because their employees can use those worthless greenbacks to buy stuff.
Besides, the true worth of gold is that it doesn't corrode, and it's an excellent electrical conductor. It's far more valuable inside electronic items, so that we can shitpost.
The computational power it requires to post a shitpost is probably higher than the computational power that was required for the Apollo program to go to the moon.
I protest!
An imaginary internet point is a complex complex internet point that can be written as a real internet point multiplied by the imaginary unit i, which is defined by its property i2 = −1.
I believe the correct term would be tangible value. My bank balance has tangible value I can use it to buy goods and services and withdraw it from the bank. Internet points are not imaginary they are intangible like your penis. We know they exist but lack physical substance, unable to be touched or grasped, and not having a physical presence.
You can sell accounts with certain ammounts of internet points (I think some common cutoffs are 10k, 50k, 100k combined karma) to online promotion agencies.
Those prices establish a baseline karma:usd value. Checkmate, atheists.
They're not imaginary because they're digital. They're imaginary because they're not worth anything in the real world. And yes, everyone says you can sell your acct for money, but the overwhelming majority of people will never do so.
They're not imaginary, but they are very much close to valueless, they have no inherent properties beyond increasing visibility and cannot be traded in or any such thing.
Some people care too much about Internet points. If we lived in a Black Mirror, The Orville, or Chinese society, that'd be a big deal. But since the Internet points here is just a bragging thing, 'imaginary' is there to mock the person who is retarded enough to care. I mean, I guess if you get enough negative points your account could get shadowbanned or some shit.

LET'S UNPACK THIS:
Your comments got 65,181 imaginary points in 4 years. That's 16,295/year.
My comments got 21,340 imaginary points in 10 months, but I'll be a sweaty and round it up to one year, so 21,340/year.
Post-related imaginary points will not be compared because I hardly ever post shit so it doesn't count.
