Why does Santa even have to have a specific ethnicity? He's a fictional character based on a Mediterranean saint created so that kids can enjoy Christmas more. If black, Asian, etc. families want their kids to have a Santa of their ethnicity, and companies that want to take their money cater to that version of Santa, then who fucking cares? Pretty much every person who's shown up in the Bible, Jesus included, and many to most of the early saints have been inaccurately portrayed as whiteys so it's not like a precedent hasn't been set.

Why, if the intent is to appeal to religious families who are minorities? It's not like the inspiration of 'Santa Claus' was a non-med Euro to begin with, and everywhere that Santa is part of Christmas, Santa is represented in malls and commercials and shit as a person of the ethnicity that is dominant to that area. Santa is English in England and Dutch in the Netherlands; what's the problem if he's Korean in a Korean Christian community or black in a black community? He's not a historical figure- the point is that he's supposed to give gifts to Christian kids in Christian households across the world. If there's a black or Asian community that wants to make their kids happy by having Santa visit, what's the problem if he's not white-haired and blue-eyed? As you mentioned, representations of him already differ widely in Europe.
