The ordinary men of the Wehrmacht happily participated in genocide in the east. The vast majority of German soldiers were active participants in rounding up and executing who towns of people for “partisan suppression”, in which partisans were defined in the most vague sense possible. And even if a particular soldier was not an active participant in genocide, they were actively fighting to allow Germany to carry out genocide. It was no secret what was going on
WW2 is unironically the most black and white war in modern history
I guess the point of that image is to make pro-refugee atheists who try to convince anti-refugee Christians to join their cause, by reminding them of their standards look bad. Doesn't matter the hypothetical atheist uses crude and needlessly combative language to describe his views, the underlying principle is still holding others to their own standards. He's merely reminding them of their ultimate role model where he sees overlap of that role model with his own worldview.
No. It's saying the 1-2 years of Sunday school redditors remember from when you were in 3rd grade (if even that) isn't actually as all encompassing about Christianity as they think it is.
I believed in God my whole childhood and was going to church every Sunday until I turned 18 and had religion classes during my elementary school. I can tell you It's valid point, at least when speaking about Catholic Jesus. IDK about other versions of Christianity.
What is a valid point? That Jesus supported UHC and all Christians are wrong for not wanting it (ignoring the fact that it has like a 70% support rate in most polls) or your made up one about refugees who obviously aren’t refugees?
No, that Jesus preached about compassion for the people who are poorest and most despised by society.
your made up one about refugees who obviously aren’t refugees
I didn't make up a single thing friend. I'm afraid you are arguing against an argument you yourself invented, not one I presented.
who obviously aren’t refugees
How is that picture referring to any specific group of refugees or fake refugees? Not even that caricature is saying "you should take in more people who try to pretend to be refugees". I'm talking about what it says, not what your strawman of that picture is.
I'm not even urging anyone to take more refugees. Since you are clearly confusing me with that caricature someone linked, I will help you to clear things up a little. I'm a liberal atheist, not a caricature of an atheist from Christian point of view. My actual opinion is that as long as country adheres to basic international law and takes refugees who have no other option, they are doing enough and people who want to be smartasses about it should go do some volunteer work or offer their own living space to help accommodate for more refugees. But as a person with brain in my head and decent knowledge of catholicism, I can judge validity of the argument about Jesus and compassion.
Are you so fucking stupid that you can't remember this post you made?

We view everything through the lens of previously ingested media. We force narratives on real life and it does nothing but skew the truth.
Oh, I agree with the underlying issue depicted in that article.
And I'd add as an indicator the rise in popularity of superhero shitty movies and black-themed "horror" movies that dish street solutions to complex moral conundrums.
A few weeks ago, Bill Maher said something to the effect of 'only a country that thinks comic books are the peak of literature could elect DJT'.
Seeing the number of people who were butthurt enough to write whole paragraphs on how 'acksually comics are the peak of literature because xmen has a lot of subtext about racism' was a little soul destroying.
Like, couldn't you have said something about how Alan Moore exists, rather than white-knighting for a franchise aimed at children?
Bill mahers a cocksmooch but he still has the balls to actually defend free speech and i have to say its great he has nothing but contempt for his audience.
Hes your typical “quippy” jew with no substance but at least hes not an amorphous blob like the rest of his tribesmen
Colberts at the point in his career similar to when your little brother made a couple good jokes when hangin with you and your friends but didnt stop while he was ahead
Also, no maher is not funny. Hes not dreadful like the others but he gets, at most, a “yeah i guess thats witty” from me
His guests usually suck ass too. Especially seth mcfarlane my god what a FAYG
Maher is usually unbearably smug, but I do like that he is willing to say "politically incorrect" things sometimes and draw blue-on-blue fire. Especially after he already lost a job once back in 2001 for doing just that.
The wizards in Harry Potter aren't even the heroes.
Have literal slaves with house elves
Love potions being sold on campus for fun rape times
That time Hermione led Umbridge to get gangbanged by horse cocks (Centaurs are so rapey that even the Disney centaur was trying to rape Meg.)
Could've stopped WWII but didn't
Pretty sure the only reason JK tries to say everyone was gay and black is because she's a degenerate racist. Remember the (((trolls))) who run the bank and Dumbledore's brother fucked a goat. She's also super pro borders in HP which is funny.
The bank is actually run by (((goblins))). I’m not sure what racist caricature trolls in the HP universe are analogous to — maybe giant scary black men?
that's not quite true, he's apparently very good at dueling spells, to the extent that other characters praise him for it, including teachers and adults.
Like, his patronus is one of the best, and he got his far earlier than most. And his stunning and disabling charms are canonically some of the strongest of the characters we meet, which includes a lot of high-level duelists.
But yeah, almost everything else he does he's apparently mediocre at. I forget what book was the one about the tests (N.E.W.T.S or something like that?) and it mentioned Harry was decidedly average at everything besides the things he would need to be an auror, which he didn't mind because he wanted to be an auror and didn't care if he sucked at herbology or transmorgrification or whatever.
Oh god, I'm one of them, aren't I? I'm debating the minutiae of Harry Potter lore. Kill me now.
his stunning and disabling charms are canonically some of the strongest of the characters we meet
So he's a rich jock who's particularly good at beating people up? Does that really make it better?
Like, his patronus is one of the best, and he got his far earlier than most
. . . and he has a big penis metaphor?
I'm not sure you're disagreeing with me. By your telling, Harry Potter is a big-dicked trust fund jock who is unusually good at beating-up people with magic.
And it's canon (per the pensieve thing) that privileged Potter men often like to think that they are "vanquishing evil" when in reality they are just sadistically bullying poor kids from Slytherin.
The only rational conclusion is clear: If the Harry Potter series were an 80s movie directed by John Hughes, then Harry Potter would be the villain.
I’d love to have written that. It’s going to be quoted with the writers name next to it 0.2% of the time for the next six years till the author dies of cardiovascular disease and it just becomes “Well, that’s just common sense, lol!!!”
The Liberal Wizarding Commission meeting was minutes from ending, and Harry looked despondent. Waiting for the prattle of faux-worldly retards to end, he noticed that to his right, Hermione was lightly touching herself underneath the table as the last speaker finished up his tirade against the NRA and American President Glonald Glumpf. Harry couldn't take it anymore. He rose in anger and shouted:
"Leftists may claim that their activism is motivated by compassion or by moral principles. But compassion and moral principle cannot be the main motives for leftist activism. Hostility is too prominent a component of leftist behavior; so is the drive for power."
Jared sidled slowly up to Sokolovely, a slight tremble in his lips as Harry continued his lecture about pipe bombs and the wilderness. Stretching his leg in hopes of making accidental contact with Sokolovely's kneecap, Jared heard a vulnerable moan pass from Sokolovely's lips as their patellas collided softly.
Both locked into each other's gaze, an audible leaking sound was heard from Sokolovely's nether regions. Hot semen ejaculated out of his pisscock and just as Harry's impassioned speech crescendoed into a direct call to destroy AI research, Sokolovely passed out in a puddle of his own life essence.
Imagine a community of people who saw Harry Potter, capeshit, disney, chinese cartoons, video games, and so on, and thought, "You know what this needs? More autism."
Thinking about it, you could just remove a word and an apostrophe from title of the first book : Harry Potter and the Philosophers.
Thrilling tale of 11 year old Harry Potter going around meeting various philosophers. Which house will he get sort into: will he fall in with Utilitarians or follow the ways of the Idealists? Meanwhile, a dark cloud of Atheism on the horizon threatens all: Nihilism awaits. And you can't forget Diogenes wacky hijinks!
It was so sad when Meryl Streep had to decide which of her two children would go on a fantastical voyage of philosophical learning and which one would go to the gas chamber.
And in case you’re wondering, here’s how the rest of the Supremes stack up in Harry Potter’s world, courtesy of Grist’s resident Potterhead, Caroline Saunders:
Clarence Thomas — Cornelius Fudge. These old boys don’t like to mess with the status quo.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg — Professor McGonagall. She keeps the world in line. Also, don’t cross her.
Stephen Breyer — Remus Lupin. Just like our furry friend in Harry Potter, he provides balance on tough issues.
Samuel Alito — Scrimgeour. Boy, do they both like to prosecute.
Sonia Sotomayor — Hermione Granger. Two badass female champions of the underserved.
Elena Kagan — Nymphadora Tonks. Kagan may not have technicolor hair, but she’s a hip young force on an aging bench. Don’t underestimate her.
Neil Gorsuch — Lucius Malfoy. They even look alike!
So @J.K. Rowling, when are you releasing Harry Potter and the Supreme Court Justices?
Harry Potter fans are the most insufferable fandom on the planet
What, you don't like the degenerate excesses of Slaanesh? That seems wrong tbh. You'd think hedonistic orgies full of drugs and cannibalism would be right up your average r/Drama users' alley.
This is 5 days old but I just want to express my annoyance with how people view RGB. They constantly spew their praise about how tough she is - both me tally and physically, as if their praise is keeping her alive. She is a 90lbs woman. All they are doing is setting themselves up to be emotionally curbstomped when she eventually gets Batista bombed by pneumonia.
Most of millennial world views and opinions are derived from some mega franchise they worship like god itself. Entertainment has taken the place of religion. Just look at any community reaction to anything Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel or any video game in existence.
All the easy to access resources have been harvested, bombing ourselves back to the stone age should remain a meme until we're at least multi-planetary.
Both of them are products of their time, and anyone who claims now that they explain the whole world are faking it. As one of the last dying 30-year old boomers on reddit, it especially pains me to see millenials misunderstand 1984. That book is deeply rooted in the day-to-day experiences of people living in totalitarian societies in the 20th century.
I think everyone has grown sick of how little news the news reports anymore. It always has a spin. It always has a erroneous statements made for the sake of the narrative. The narratives aren't even conspiracies. Just ways to make more money for the station.
This is just one among many pathetic attempts at appealing to the obnoxious audience of self-devoted liberal whiners. Don't even get me started on the retards who listen to alex jones and keep fox news on 24/7. The difference is conservative drama is more similar to WWE drama.
the fact that the killing spell is illegal is accurate for the UK. I really like it because they gimp the normies to using less lethal stuff and they just get slaughtered
The person delivering this ad hominem was ironically named Bill Snape, and is senior counsel at The Center for Biodiversity as well as a senior fellow at American University.
Imagine graduating law school, deciding to read a new popular children's book, and then publicly drawing parallels between it and the highest court in the nation.
HP was exploding when I was in primary school and I was so fed up that all my nerdy friends going Harry Potter this and that and flexing how many times they reread it or rewatched the movies I just went good ol' 10yo contrarian mode and totally ignored it. I unfortunately saw the first two movies eventually but most references still go over my head and my brain still categorises it as a kids story.
So what this article is talking about really hits me because I'm fed up with HP since day one and find the constant referecing fucking bizarrre kidlike.
If you ever want to give yourself a reason to end it all, visit a anime or going convention and revel in full grown adults dressed like idiots attempt (and fail) to have a nice normal flowing conversation about normal life stuff. I still have flashbacks and wake up in a cold sweat sometimes .
What I hate most about HP is that JK basically took the most unoriginal idea ever and wrote a couple children's books about it. That's no big deal, children's books are supposed to be stupid. HP is basically every silly wizardry trope combined into one stupid story.
But then she decided she wanted to write truly woke fiction. And instead of branching out and writing a different series, she just shoehorned some retarded 1984 shit into her children's story right alongside other childish shit like riding brooms around. The end of that series is just truly the most depressing conglomeration of unoriginal capeshit, and unoriginal dystopian shit.
Harry Potter is an "Ayn Rand Hero" whose creator presents liberty of the individual as an ideal and skewers the bosses of big government mercilessly and effectively. What a surprise then to learn that J.K. Rowling supports leftist politicians so like the bureaucrats she unmasks in her books. She has said that this is because of her gratitude for help she received from the socialist government when she was needy.
Her gratitude is admirable but the idea of giving help is not the private domain of socialists. Libertarians would call it "investing" in promising individuals.
Artists often miss their own point when they venture into politics. Artists have great ability to tap the unconscious, putting together images or words that express vividly and yet allow for the many contradictions and inconsistencies typical of human beings. In the character of Harry, Ms. Rowling created an individualist who values science and reality. The "magic" learned at Hogwarts is a metaphor for science: it must be studied and practiced and does not come "by magic." Tutors invest their personal time and interest in Harry because they want him to grow and become a strong force in their society of the free mind, i.e. to return their investment.
Rowling writes for children, she splits infinitives and uses pronouns like "him" and "me" in ways that my teachers would have considered mistakes, but she expresses a libertarian life view very beautifully. Then after Harry Potter she turns around and looks for government to be an ideal parent, after writing 3000 pages to show that is precisely what it should never attempt to be.

there's nothing wrong with the books, they are what they are, but if you pretend they're supposed to be some deep socio-political commentary instead of adventure tales for teenagers, of course they're gonna look shit
Maybe some new perspectives would be good for the fans of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
a-at least the books were good though
"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
Let's be really Harry pewter is about as juvenile as can get but this shithole of an article trying to tell us that conservatives have any more "political nuance" than Harry Potter villains when it comes to the environment and biodiversity is a fucking laugh. Their nuance extends to "if it breathes kill it so I can make money off of it"
I have never once seen a conservative opinion value the input of trained specialized scientists when it comes to environmental decisions, why on this quickly dying Earth do they think they're deserving of some sort of "complex understanding" of their motives when it always comes back to how much $$$ can I mine out of this system before it kills my grandchildren
I don't know if this is old pasta or if your serious-posting skills have made you the new Chef Boyardee, but either way thank you for your contribution.
I watched someone from Yemen speaking at the Brookings Institution about the current state of her country and she had to explain it in terms of Game of Thrones at least 3 times because that's how fucking retarded our civilization is now. Somebody, please, push the button and fucking end it already.
I like how Rowling goes to all this effort in her books to draw similarities to the villians and real life racists (you know, judging someone by an imutable trait) and then locks all of Slytherin away in the last book because "they can't be trusted". People cheered in the theaters. How dense do you have to be?

1 KittehDragoon 2018-12-05
A few weeks ago, Bill Maher said something to the effect of 'only a country that thinks comic books are the peak of literature could elect DJT'.
Seeing the number of people who were butthurt enough to write whole paragraphs on how 'acksually comics are the peak of literature because xmen has a lot of subtext about racism' was a little soul destroying.
Like, couldn't you have said something about how Alan Moore exists, rather than white-knighting for a franchise aimed at children?
1 lipidsly 2018-12-05
Bill mahers a cocksmooch but he still has the balls to actually defend free speech and i have to say its great he has nothing but contempt for his audience.
Hes your typical “quippy” jew with no substance but at least hes not an amorphous blob like the rest of his tribesmen
1 KittehDragoon 2018-12-05
He's also easily the funniest of the comedians with a late night "news" show.
I mean, holy shit Colbert, it's been 2 years, stop making golden shower jokes, it's pure cringe at this point.
1 lipidsly 2018-12-05
Colberts at the point in his career similar to when your little brother made a couple good jokes when hangin with you and your friends but didnt stop while he was ahead
Also, no maher is not funny. Hes not dreadful like the others but he gets, at most, a “yeah i guess thats witty” from me
His guests usually suck ass too. Especially seth mcfarlane my god what a FAYG
1 IllustriousQuail 2018-12-05
Maher is usually unbearably smug, but I do like that he is willing to say "politically incorrect" things sometimes and draw blue-on-blue fire. Especially after he already lost a job once back in 2001 for doing just that.
1 UsedTree 2018-12-05
The wizards in Harry Potter aren't even the heroes.
Pretty sure the only reason JK tries to say everyone was gay and black is because she's a degenerate racist. Remember the (((trolls))) who run the bank and Dumbledore's brother fucked a goat. She's also super pro borders in HP which is funny.
1 error404brain 2018-12-05
They could because grindelwad was behind the nazis. And grindelwald got his ass beat by dumbledore in 45 or something.
The fact that I know this mean that I should have been bullied more daddy.
1 BigDaddy_Delta 2018-12-05

1 wewladin 2018-12-05
Harry potter is how a low middle class boy can become a real bourgie
Slytherin house is the rich elite.
Jk rowling was just a middle class or lower bitch that wrote a fairy tale about becoming a real bourgie
Ironicallu the books were so successful she became one!

Yeah, he's rich as fuck, his dad and his godfather are upper class pureblood.
1 IllustriousQuail 2018-12-05
JKR's greatest trick was convincing a bunch of kids to root for the rich trust-fund jock.
Seriously, Harry is mediocre at best at magic (would probably be failing were it not for Hermoine's help) and only excels in any way at quidditch.
1 Pepperglue 2018-12-05
The book said he was pretty good at magic he learned from Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
1 IllustriousQuail 2018-12-05
Sure, that's what the professors told him, but they knew he was rich and were angling for alumni donations.
1 GreasyPeter 2018-12-05
It's probably because Voldemort left some of his seed inside Harry's rectum.
1 e-guy 2018-12-05
that's not quite true, he's apparently very good at dueling spells, to the extent that other characters praise him for it, including teachers and adults.
1 IllustriousQuail 2018-12-05
So he's a rich jock who's particularly good at beating people up? Does that really make it better?
. . . and he has a big penis metaphor?
I'm not sure you're disagreeing with me. By your telling, Harry Potter is a big-dicked trust fund jock who is unusually good at beating-up people with magic.
And it's canon (per the pensieve thing) that privileged Potter men often like to think that they are "vanquishing evil" when in reality they are just sadistically bullying poor kids from Slytherin.
The only rational conclusion is clear: If the Harry Potter series were an 80s movie directed by John Hughes, then Harry Potter would be the villain.
1 HeftyHovercraft 2018-12-05
He's a trust fund baby.
1 trumps_yellow_pubes 2018-12-05
It's basically just deus ex machina money so that JK didn't have to worry about any plot points made difficult by him not having any wizard money.
1 DerekSavageCoolCuck 2018-12-05
Dumbledore was written as gay character from the first book, so he should have just become Harry's sugar daddy.

Harry potters struggles.
1 jaredschaffer27 2018-12-05
1 sokolovey 2018-12-05
Not enough use of "ejaculated" or "stretch his/her legs," 6/10
1 jaredschaffer27 2018-12-05

Wrong - Woke is We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, which came before both, inspired Orwell and is better than both.
1 preserved_fish 2018-12-05
Or perhaps The Napoleon of Notting Hill by Chesterton.
1 allwordsaredust 2018-12-05
I really need to read some Chesterton - Man Who was Thursday has been in my "to read" list for way too long.

Pfft, We is better than both of them
1 Redactor0 2018-12-05

To be fair, if you replace "Harry Potter" with "Sunday School stories," you get boomers.

the fact that the killing spell is illegal is accurate for the UK. I really like it because they gimp the normies to using less lethal stuff and they just get slaughtered

1 GreasyPeter 2018-12-05
If you ever want to give yourself a reason to end it all, visit a anime or going convention and revel in full grown adults dressed like idiots attempt (and fail) to have a nice normal flowing conversation about normal life stuff. I still have flashbacks and wake up in a cold sweat sometimes .

J.K. Rowling is the Ann Rynd of millenials.
1 DinosSuck 2018-12-05

1 elftor421 2018-12-05

I like how Rowling goes to all this effort in her books to draw similarities to the villians and real life racists (you know, judging someone by an imutable trait) and then locks all of Slytherin away in the last book because "they can't be trusted". People cheered in the theaters. How dense do you have to be?
