Seriousposting time: Can we start calling people posers again? 'Authenticity' was already bullshit, but nothing is more bullshit than lionizing authenticity.
Literally nothing in the world is easier than being 'authentic', but conforming to one of the biggest trends in the world by branding yourself that way(in this case by literally branding yourself) is probably, ironically, one of the only ways you can actually manage to be inauthentic.
"Not caring what people think of you" is just an end-around on controlling "what other people think of you" because "what other people think of you" is actually super important to you, and adopting that shallowest of brands is easier than just doing what you actually want to do.
Piercings are a brand. Brown paper bags are just a brand, CDs sleeved in untreated cardboard and retro cassette-players are a brand. No-brand brand mason jars used as glassware. No Logo had a fucking logo on the front of it.
