I feel bad for r/libertarian. They were being openly brigaded by chapocels and TMOR daily. Their sole purpose was to totally take over the sub and make a platform to spilt more liberal right people. The more classical users were complaining constantly for the mods do something. The mods didnt want to get involved and just wanted to let it play itself out. Well, the brigading went up a notch and the mods decided to do something about it. Dont think they made the best decision, but they were faced with r/CTH2.0 if they didnt. So, whatever. Another sub down the drain.
It's kind of ironic that Chapocels and TMORcels wanted to infiltrate the subreddit just like enoughchapospam but ended up getting actual alt-righters and trumptards in charge there
The brigaders weren't trying to take it over they were trolling the place because in keeping with libertarian principles it had pretty much zero regulation. And they kinda made their point that that doesn't work so well lol
You were asking about the sub. It used to be totally laissez-faire, with almost no posts aside from porn and commercial spam removed. Occasionally posts would be removed but posters were never banned.
Now they've made the mod log private, that RightC0ast dude has gone on a banning spree against leftists or people who speak up, yet doesn't remove any of the fashy memes or posts from the place.
And yes I agree it makes zero fucking sense to go from libertarianism to authoritarianism but plenty of Ron Paul republicans have become alt-righters in the last couple years, which makes as little sense as the Bernouts who boarded the Trump Train
Yeah it's just some physical_removal mods/participants taking over libertarian as their new playground. There probably are some Russian spammers in the sub, but that's most likely due to extremely lazy moderation more than the mods being in Russia's pocket. At the very least one of the most prolific libertarian posters is either a shared account or partially automated because they post way more content than humanly possible.

That was worse than I thought it would be. They even singled out a certain user.

On one hand, I feel sorry for them losing their sub, on another hand, they are liberarians, so this is kind of what they are already preaching.
So, what happened to the sub in the end?
1 Plexipus 2018-12-10
They embraced authoritarianism with suspicious alacrity

Like how? They went from libertarians to authoritarians? That doesn't make sense.

No I expected you to skim, make an opinion and joke about, A) libertarians, B) topminds, or C) both
