We were denied precious enlightenment because of Trump. If Clinton had won, the neocons would have spent the first two years smugly saying "I told you so" before transitioning to lobbing snark grenades at the Clinton administration.
The DDF in the responses gloating don't realize that they're turning whatever is left in American conservatism into a paranoid conspiracy theory circus.
On chapo they gloated about the closing, and had some good points about how the Weekly Standard was such a cheerleader for the Iraq war and warmongering in general. Still I can't help but be depressed that this further solidifies the right among the nationalists. Like why did nationalism have to take off instead of libertarianism?
Some will say it was overreach by the left, others will blame the Iraq war and touchy priests for shattering Reagan/Buckley conservativism.
I think Christianity, and libertarianism, are showing their age. The technological revolution that we witnessed is going to have consequences we can't even imagine right now.
Libertarianism was big back in '05-'07 and was basically exposed as completely retarded and then completely forgotten about when Obama swept through. It had some appeal with the "we shouldn't be in Iraq" crowd that didn't want to go full Democrat, but they pushed their luck with the flat tax and saying private police force would be an acceptable plan.

Right, there was a huge, if not hilarious, split between the "non-interventionist, Anwar al-Awlaki" and the "abolish the interstate!" constituents.
