Because "apps" are all the rage and why would Google (and Apple) be interested in hosting their competition if they can use the "hate speech" excuse? That's what happened to the Gab app.

Anti-trust laws, firstly. The majority of web traffic comes from devices created by Google and Apple who will ban you if they don't like you. The simple excuse is "we don't want hate speech on our platform" when a Twitter competitor (or whatever) comes along that promises not to ban people for their legally-protected thoughts and ideas.

Domain hosting companies ban people for wrongthink, payment processors ban people for wrongthink, websites ban people for wrongthink, and anyone who wants to go up against that gets banned from even having the opportunity to compete especially in the mobile space which makes up the majority of web traffic.

You can't say "well if you don't like it then create your own platform" when that entails: creating a new smartphone that people want to buy, writing your own operating system to compete with iOS/Android, setting up your own internet/telecom (which requires massive data centers and worldwide backhaul), inventing your own Twitter/Facebook/YouTube, etc., and inventing your own banks and payment processors. You're talking about going up against the government and companies worth trillions of dollars, and likely looking at spending that much money to get started in the first place. Don't you think those companies would want to shut you down even if you somehow had the knowledge and money to go up against them?

I guess you can argue that they have an unfair advantage because it is pre-installed, but you can make your app distrubtion app.
