The issue is liability insurance American Doctors have to carry. You open a firm and start doing your doctor shit, at the end of the month that liability payment takes a huge chunk of your profits. So you might be a doctor, running your own shit, but your actually take home might be $90k or something like that. Whereas a certified plumber in the trade union near a metropolitan area, working 60 hours a week can make $120k no problem.

I had an art teacher like that who'd go off on weird tangents when we'd bait him, and since it was art that's all we did. He was a bit crazy TBH but in a good way. Then he died and there were articles about him in the papers, turned out he was a really famous artist whose paintings were displayed in the Sistine Chapel.

Do high school teachers have tenure? It can be difficult to fire a teacher with lots of seniority, but that's different than tenure I think, just union rules. Tenure is really more meant to protect academic freedom so that researchers at the university level don't feel compelled to avoid certain areas of research. It varies. I had a really cool European history teacher who was probably the most impartial instructor I’ve ever had. He managed to take us from the Black Death to the fall of the USSR without me getting the slightest inkling of his actual political leanings.

"Educators" rival "Boomers" for political activity, and since they're all compelled to be in a union they all get urged constantly to go out and vote for Democrats who promise to increase Education spending. It's literally a giant racket. Get mediocre degree -> only can teach -> end up in union -> "hey voting this way is in your best interests!".

They're literally incapable of thinking for themselves on any issue because they would have to vote against their own financial interests otherwise. They have incentives to encourage students to vote a particular way because it literally pads their pockets.

Keep in mind that the sort of people who end up teaching are generally total failures at life. They failed in school themselves. Most of them, including math teachers, can barely solve linear equations. Think about the mediocre kids who scraped by with C's while you were in school; they're the ones who will be teaching your kids. A lot of them fall into the profession out of desperation for a job, and many of them find their way into a particular classroom out of desperation to get a post covered. It's compromises all around.

Most female teachers over 55 aren't like that. It used to be the only real choice for an academically minded woman who wanted to have a real profession, but didn't want to be a nurse.

Some of them are still braindead, though, but every school usually has a handful of good teachers. The sad part is that all of them deserve better. There's not enough talented people in the world for every job to be covered and for every classroom to have an amazing teacher.

Plus with forced retirement stuff almost all of them will retire "on-time" just so the school can replace them with a younger, cheaper teacher with less political capital.

Either way, teachers are so lost. All the way through Ed school, I was forced to take so many worthless classes that were supposed to be focused on specific issues in education, when in reality, nearly all of those courses devolved into being about whatever social issue the professor wanted to talk about. As a result, I had at least five courses that were near duplicates of one another, each being a slightly different variation of a leftist circlejerk, each devoid of any statistics, and each filled with self referencing theories and circular logic.

As a person with math as a double major, it was infuriating because half of my classes would be dedicated to math that relies on air tight logic to formulate proofs, while these courses would rely on whatever sensitive people feel to be correct, with no proof or evidence required. You couldn’t critically think because using evidence and arriving at your own conclusions wasn’t allowed.

I had a really good class about adolescent development. It was taught by a child psychiatrist who had kids of her own. Everything was evidence based and science based, with data taken from schools and experiments to back up everything we were taught. We got to the chapter of gender, to which she said, “Students who are transgender are suffering from gender identity disorder and need to be treated carefully.” Immediately there was an uprising. Everyone in the class took issue to the fact that she used the word “disorder,” even though that’s how it’s stated in the DSM. After whole semester of no complaints, a few people after the class were talking about reporting her for using the word “disorder.” It’s fucking ridiculous.

Sorry for the longpost. I just feel like people should know just how fucked we really are.
