Most people are emotionally attached to the latter and solve problems by changing what you are conforming to rather than telling you you don't have to conform.
He's right in this case. Nobody is responding to what he's actually saying, and is just lashing out emotionally as if he's condoning what is happening.
When the left doesn't bother policing their own and drives themselves insane, you get things like Bolsonaro. Ergo, people who actually do care will go after the left for making the good and logical position untenable so that people like Bolsonaro win.
