'Black Panther' fans rage as Marvel epic is completely snubbed at Golden Globes 2019
1 2019-01-07 by SoftAttitude
"Can't believe i just sat in front of the tv for 3h20min to watch black panther lose ALL its categories."

Black Panther fans have reacted angrily after the Marvel epic failed to win a single award at the Golden Globes.

The box-office smash, directed by Ryan Coogler, was considered to be an awards frontrunner after bagging three nominations including best motion picture drama.
But as the awards took place, it was ultimately Bohemian Rhapsody that emerged triumphant in that category. It also lost out on nominations for best original score and best original song for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘All The Stars.’

However, the lack of recognition didn’t go unnoticed by Marvel fans – who made their feelings very well known online.

One fan wrote: “Can’t believe i just sat in front of the tv for 3h20min to watch black panther lose ALL its categories.”

Another hit out at the wins for Bohemian Rhapsody, arguing: “Bohemian Rhapsody over black panther and a star is born i just…. like even you borhap stans have to admit borhap as a whole movie wasn’t good. what made it good was the music and the cast. just have no words.”

Upon release in February 2018, Black Panther made history by grossing a staggering $1 billion (£784 million), making it Marvel’s highest grossing movie at the time.

The good news is by May everyone who was still watching has a convenient point to check out and maybe next year people will find a new blockbuster template to obsess over.

That's honestly what I'm planning on doing. May 2019, illness be done with capeshit and December 2019, I'll be done with Star Wars.
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
Yep, my friends will probably drag me to episode IX but if we go, it's out of a desire to watch the car crash than genuine interest.

Looks like people are going to have to admit how distinctly average Black Panther was.
1 leparsdon 2019-01-07
They would hate that. The fact that it only got 3 GG nominations should've told them they were literally just throwing them a bone for ratings
1 GeauxHouston22 2019-01-07
all the capeshit stuff is average at best and terrible at worst. BP wasn't really distinctly better or worse than any of their other shit.
1 PracticalOnions 2019-01-07
BP is just getting “recognition” because of the current political climate. I watched it on Netflix and I couldn’t for the life of me understand why retards on Reddit thought this was a cinema masterpiece
1 GeauxHouston22 2019-01-07
what do you think of the other marvel films?
1 PracticalOnions 2019-01-07
I think they range from average to pretty good.
Ragnarok, Winter Soldier, & Spider-Man Homecoming were their bests imo
1 GeauxHouston22 2019-01-07
they're all kind of the same to me, tbh. you can clearly tell they set them up as two types of movie:
1: battle the big boss, with serious consequences and a bunch of stars (with premium quips, always)... see all the avengers ones akak this is the big one, all the chips are on the able yet again
2: plucky/fun side thing, with typically small stakes and a fun side character who is contractually obligated to quip on command.... see antman, ragnarok, etc
plus staple on some kind of tease (wtf ever happened to howard the duck??) after the credits to ensure the manchildren are frothing at the mouth to come back for the next one
1 PracticalOnions 2019-01-07
It’s pretty jarring how they each differ in quality like the writing was spot on for Ragnarok but then Ant-Man and The Wasp comes out and it’s a total blandfest lmao
I think these movies in general are fun to go out with friends or take the kids to see but I think they’re just “average” super hero movies at best tbh
Also for the Howard the duck thing, Marvel Studios has a terrible habit of teasing their shit years before they actually do anything with the property. Fucking Thanos has been teased since the first Thor movie
1 GeauxHouston22 2019-01-07
I just feel like each movie only exists to set up the next one. hardly any of them do anything interesting or new.
from a money-making perspective, it's genius. but from a film-making perspective, it's dogshit.
1 DrZerglingMD 2019-01-07
Yeah but we KNEW going into it that they had a multi-movie, 3 stage plan for bringing Thanos in. I want my fucking "Howard The Duck" already!
1 Amin00265 2019-01-07
Most people on reddit think it's overrated
1 mrv3 2019-01-07
Because a villain named Killmonger, whose goal was to take over the world using technology advantage as revenge for what the Jews I mean mayos did, is complex.
Killmonger wasn't complex he's a skin tone away from being a villain in captain planet or scooby do.

1 grungebot5000 2019-01-07
eh, it had unique visuals for the most part, and even some actual characters, which is way more than most of the genre can say for itself
still pretty boring though. Marveloid capeshit tropes and a dynasty drama? how am i supposed to care about that?
1 CrosbyStillzandSwag 2019-01-07
It had a couple of cringy jokes, but for the most part its one of the only Marvel movies that has control over its tone and doesn't break the drama with an awkward needlescratch every five minutes. I enjoyed it a little more than most capeshit for that reason alone.
But yeah, pretty boring. 85 on metacritic? lmao
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
It also looked atrocious by the standards of these movies and felt weirdly budget-constrained for such a massive blockbuster. Almost every scene was in 1 of 4 locations in Wakanda and the final fight was 50 people + bad CGI rhinos on a backlot.
The performances were the best aspect of that movie and even that really boils down to Killmonger since Black Panther looks constipated or tired for 95% of this movie. The massive amounts of hype over what is at best a thoroughly average capeshit movie really belies the fact that it's fandom is entirely political.
1 1029384756-mk2 2019-01-07
The original ironman before all the connected universe bullshit was pretty good imo.
Final act was kinda shit tho
1 BuyMeAnNSX 2019-01-07
Honestly super hero movies need to be like Logan. Gorey and no pg-13 shit. Start punching holes through people and I'll start watching again.
1 xXEpicGamer69Xx 2019-01-07
you do realize most superheroes are made for children right?
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
The comic industry tried your approach in the 90's and almost went out of business because they also forgot superheroes mostly appeal to children.
1 tHeSiD 2019-01-07
Avengers at best is average. Black panther was just hopelessly useless
1 grungebot5000 2019-01-07
it would be average, if the bar wasn’t so low
1 MordorsFinest 2019-01-07
Why doesn't a black author just write an African themed fantasy? This movie clearly shows there's a huge market for it.
I might even see it
1 DoctorFahrenheit 2019-01-07
Honestly it might give fantasy the kind of kick in the ass the genre needs. Afro-fantasy could be fucking awesome with hyena-men and The Bush being something like 40k chaos.
1 Kellere31 2019-01-07
I want my 40k fall of cadia movie already.
1 -OrganisedChaos- 2019-01-07
The effects would cost too much. It's like anime being created in live action, in that pretty much everything requires special effects.
1 e-guy 2019-01-07
Afro-fantasy is already a thing, but it hasn't seen big, mainstream success. That's mostly because it's a very niche market, and, to be frank, a lot of it isn't well-written. For every Wild Seed, there's five Malika, Warrior Queens.
I don't think it helps that a lot of the people writing afro-fantasy aren't actually African. They're largely African American, and don't have a strong connection to African spirituality and culture, and so end up writing romanticized, Westernized versions of African culture in their fantasy stories.
Like going back to Wild Seed, what makes it neat is that the author, despite being born and raised in America, did a lot of painstaking research to make the novel read and feel like it's rooted in African folklore. That's pretty rare in the genre, most of it is pretty clearly written by someone who has never been to Africa and has little to no experience with actual African tribal beliefs.

1 Osterion 2019-01-07
I was kinda sad that Wild Seed's sequels (Pattern Master and w/e the other one was called) really drifted away from the afro-fantasy angle. Not that they were bad, but they definitely didn't feel as unique.
1 ToTheNintieth 2019-01-07
It was enjoyable, but nothing special. The Killmonger dick sucking does annoy me though.
1 Srpski_Lav-BOG 2019-01-07

1 MooseHeckler 2019-01-07
Because nothing says serious commentary on the human condition like Marvel movies.
1 leparsdon 2019-01-07
But Black Panther had...Black people in it!
1 MooseHeckler 2019-01-07
It was a good movie but, not best picture contender.
1 leparsdon 2019-01-07
Eh...it was ok. I watched in theaters and wasn't blown away. I was surprised Disney was pushing so hard for awards. It seems...odd that BP was the film they chose to stump for.
1 MooseHeckler 2019-01-07
I agree, it was a decent film. Though I wasn't aware Disney was campaigning for it.
1 leparsdon 2019-01-07
Yea, they were putting out "for your consideration" for the oscars and stuff. It's insane.
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
It was thoroughly average even by capeshit standards and any awards nominations it gets is 100% virtue signaling, especially in the realm of visual effects.

Blade didnt get a GG nomination :(

1 AlohaWarrior34 2019-01-07
Says the mayo. OUT NAO!
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
the Mouse did an amazingly good job paying shills to spam it endlessly as the first black superhero for the woke crowd, and even got southern Baptists to drive their congregations to the movie under the guise of it being "empowering".
By the time everyone saw it and realized it was maybe 1-2 rungs above the Thor sequel in terms of quality they were too publicly invested to admit it and doubled down on it being a cinematic masterpiece.
1 munstersthompson 2019-01-07
yikes y’all this really confirms that the golden globes are a racist dogwhistle for alt-right white supremacists
1 bromide992 2019-01-07

1 Environmental_Table 2019-01-07
but it was the first movie to ever have black people in it! how can it not have won every single award?
1 grungebot5000 2019-01-07
non-deconstructionist capeshit should never be nominated for anything
1 Wild_Hunt 2019-01-07

1 Red_of_Head 2019-01-07

1 OnlyRacistOnReddit 2019-01-07
That's because it was a bad movie. Literally barely watchable. The only thing that made it acceptable was Martin Freeman, but Winston Duke was kinda funny too (notice that he has a mayo name, so he's one of us).
1 NotchDidNothingWrong 2019-01-07
If we're gonna talk about how ungodly overrated Black Panther was we're gonna need to mention how Infinity War was not sad on any level.
1 coconut-daddy 2019-01-07
Space man “killed” all my big franchise characters with planned sequels :::(((

1 mrv3 2019-01-07
People are genuinely surprised that Black Panther didn't win any awards?
Black Panther isn't even the best black superhero film and that's hardly a contested fucking lineup.
The graphics are bad, the plot predictable, the action scenes are enjoyable and the last fight was utterly bullshit. The main villain is black hitler, his name is fucking killmonger, you'd have to be so dumb as to confuse 2 black men in their 20's with 1 white dude in his 40's to somehow see that as complex.
1 Al_Simmons 2019-01-07
People aren't judging the movie based on it's quality, they are propping it up because they are retarded "woke" morons.
1 mrv3 2019-01-07
That what annoys me most black panther isn't woke. It praises fascism, it praises dictatorships
1 THOT-AUDITOR 2019-01-07
nah mate its woke because black science lady called bilbo baggins a colonizer, remember?
1 nomad1c 2019-01-07
