Let's just say I make reports to Adult Protective Services probably once or twice a week. It's fucking disgusting, the way that we stick our vulnerable adults into these Medicare Mills where profit is truly the bottom line. I've seen things all the way from flat out incompetence to stuff resembling the scene from Happy Gilmore where the nursing staff turns into complete monsters when nobody is looking. I've seen people die from completely avoidable issues that never should have happened in a place where people are getting Medical Care. I've seen places grossly understaffed, and a high number of the places I go seem to have a very low bar for their employment standards. Much like Social Services, it's not uncommon for these places to be pulling from a pool of candidates who can't get a job anywhere else and were clearly the bottom of their class, and that makes perfect sense because the pay only attracts that sort of candidate.
One day in the far future when euthanasia is common and accepted, these nursing homes will be remembered the same as residential schools and slave plantations.
