If you support free speech, you must support people pinging other users. It's completely legal speech. If you won't defend pinging as free speech because you or someone else finds it disgusting, then no speech that you or anyone else views as disgusting is safe.

It's not, The reddit admins are straight up lying to the ignorant (like yourself) to justify their prejudice. Pinging being protected speech has long since been estabilished, as it has undeniable artistic merit. The only time it's been included under any obscenity laws is when someone is being charged with possession of harassment, so the state can slap them with more charges. The courts have been very careful to not charge anyone for pinging, because they'd get their asses fucking annihilated by a higher court due to the firm precedence of pinging being completely legal speech. /r/Drama had nothing to worry about, this guy was just making shit up to fool people into thinking his censoring wasn't entirely personally motivated.

Why would women even want to hide that they are a woman online? I use my v card all the time. It gets me karma here and when I use voice chat during online gaming, men just listen to me.
I just feel so empowered as a woman online. I always get extra attention and people are meaner when the think I’m a dude. I don’t get all this. How is it logical at all that straight male gamers would try to scare of women who like the same shit as they do? It makes absolutely no sense when you sit down and think about it.
I had so many male friends on steam online inviting me to play all the time that I removed all of them except my boyfriend lol because I hate socializing. It’s the opposite of being unwelcomed. I still get friend requests from men after every other match. It’s also the same offline. “oh, wow, you play X? Let’s play it together this weekend?” No male gamer has ever said, “shoo! Off you go, femoid! Must protect my virginity 🙅🏽♂️ do not try to seduce me by having same interests 😤😤 BUSSY ONLY!!”
Because much like the Male Feminist, these gamers default to the “shoo! Off you go, femoid! Must protect my virginity 🙅🏽♂️ do not try to seduce me by having same interests 😤😤 BUSSY ONLY!!” reaction so they can't possible fathom someone not wanting to react like that to a girl in their vidya.
