Every language uses shortcuts. People in Italy write (or used to) „nn“ for „non“, or „xk“ for „perché“. It happens. Germans cut the e at the end of the first person 9/10 times in colloquial writing. Americans write „u“.
The one thing I noticed about Germans (as an Italian) is that they love to think their language is extremely hard.
It might have been that I had to study Greek and Latin in high school; it might have been that I tried (and miserably failed) to learn Chinese before German; it might have been that Italian grammar is also quite complicated. But it‘s not as hard as they make it out to be. I got to B.2 in a year while self taught, living in China, and working in finance.
Tomorrow I am starting my first course at the Goethe Institut... looking forward to it. Sorry for the rant ahah
Yeah the “hab” was one of the nice little shortcuts. Are you studying in the Frankfurt location? Take a day trip up to Marburg if you have the chance; studied there when I was finishing my German minor. Beautiful city with a great Altstadt overlooking the area. The castle up top has an awesome museum that covers a lot of Hessian history.
Traditionally this kind of thing stays in the family. So you can see why there's outrage, this is the equivalent of someone trampling down cabbage in your garden.
We should have let Austria go out at its peak, now we have let Germans not only get treated as real people (despite the track record), but get a second nation while they were at it!

This sub is pretty much the same way at this point, just another 'woke' reddit sub.
The SRDines already downvoted it to the low 70s.

Christ, and I thought Bavarian and Swiss German dialects were bad.

Nix is used commonly also in Germany. At least, I‘ve seen in it in Frankfurt and my Nürnbergische Freundin uses it.
Don‘t know about aba for aber.
Swiss German is basically another language. Not separating verbs is considered acceptable.

Man, that just seems.... lazy? Maybe it’s the more social context, but it seems Germans are pretty nit picky with grammar.
Then again I honed a lot of my written German from a professor who was an old school Swabian, had no room for shorthand in writing.

They kidnap young girls and hide then in their basements for decades already. If anything, the rapefugees are an improvement.

Yeah, how dare the media infringe on traditional German family values, like raping and torturing your nieces?
