People present you with scientifically backed evidence showing how the world really is and you disregard it because it is brought to your attention by a group of people you find inferior to you.
As opposed to the electoral college and representative democracy where everyone 100% had civil rights from the start and the majority was never allowed to fuck up minorities?
Tbh I don't know how someone who spend a fair amount of time on the internet can be for things like direct democracy. Within months the any country would be in flames, apart from some states in Asia.
True, but I'd argue the fact that they're public figures and want to remain in their positions of power means they're less likely to make very risky, truly stupid or very radical changes and decision.
That may not always be for the better for every single issue, but in general it's a good thing as it brings more stability.
Imagine giving the public the right to vote on the civil rights act in 1964. WTF I love direct democracy now since I wouldnt have to share a drinking fountain with dem der colored folks.
Btw, direct democracies wouldn't work because there isn't one majority with aligned values. No matter what the "they're all in it together" crowd would tell you. From George Carlin to random YouTube comment, it's a fucking meme. What's good for one group is often "bad" for others and shit like that shouldn't be decided on who has the numbers. And no before you mention it, ranked choice would suck ass too.
Imagine shitting on California politics not realizing 95% of the historical government fuckups were literally Republicans.. Shit property taxes? Thanks Republicans Jarvis & Gann. Huge random energy debt debacle due to deregulation? Thanks Republican Governor Pete Wilson. Most restrictive gun laws in the entire US? Thanks "pro-gun" Republican Governor Reagan for the Mulford Act. Extreme water shortages and a permanently destroyed water table? O hai Republican dominated AG industry that contributes a paltry 2% to the state GDP.
It's ok, you're quite likely only fucking retarded because of Republican backed cuts to public education.
Unless I'm missing something that just banned open carry didn't it? I think the real retarded shit is all of the attachment bans, mag limits, and pin holes on mags nonsense that they have now. I may be missing some poorly thought up long gun ban as well...
You're posting in /r/drama, you're obviously already missing something. No, the Mulford Act bans open carry of a LOADED firearm, which means it doesn't matter how big your magazines are, because they can't have bullets in them. Reagan passed it because scary black people started carrying guns around, in compliance with the US constitution and all laws, and whites can't have black people going around armed legally.
Okay well most of the california stupidity about firearms are the above mentioned things. Most people don't have a problem with keeping their firearms secured until hunting/shooting.
Although we are in agreement that the intention was totally to stop those scary blacks from carrying.
I think talk of abolishing the EC is retarded but not having an electoral college isn't direct democracy... Representative democracy would still be our political system
I’ll take people who don’t actually know how thenekectoral college works or what direct democracy is but continue to peddle fakemrigjt wingmtalking points on Reddit for 500, Alex.
I can only hope someday you are banned from voting, it will truly be a great day for America.
It's amazing how retarded you people are. But but direct democracy is just voting for things like legal weed dude. Suicide would be too kind for people like you.
founding fathers figured out a clever way to give rural areas a strong voice in elections that wont be droned out by highly populated cities. 2 republicans win because they didnt neglect their vote. now the system MUST change.

imagine unironically thinking that smaller states have bigger voices than cities. lol. founding fathers only helped level the playing field a bit more for those smaller states.
They already got the Senate. And who gives a fuck tbh. A democratic nation must give an equal voice to every citizen. A man from Wyoming should not have as much as ten people from California. If they want to be a state, fine, then they can govern themselves, but just because they're a smaller community does not mean they should have a larger than proportional say on the government of all the states.
the idea was branches be balanced too. founding fathers planned the system that works out pretty well seeing how america is the best country to ever exist in history. especially against pathetic europe.
i rather trust them than a pissed off political party who is trying to make a change because they lost 2 elections.
Electoral College is fine, the first-past-the-post voting process is the real problem. Ranked choice voting is the solution to the douche vs turd sandwich dilemma, but good luck convincing the American political duopoly to go along with something that threatens their unchallenged kingmaker status.
a little funny all these recommendations are being pushed hard right after dems have a massive pathetic defeat by a reality tv show host, after trying to rig the election themselves.
Dems just want to rely on popular vote while leaving everything else unchanged, a modification that would tip the scales in their favor but mostly preserve two-party status quo. Neither mainstream party will endorse alternative voting systems like Ranked Choice because that would take away the "lesser evil" trap they've been using to gatekeep the Oval Office for over a century.
The founding fathers were fine with owning slaves and they've been dead for over 150 years. We don't have to pretend they made a perfect system that's still perfect even 200 years later.
Imagine Euros constantly masturbating over the "inequality" in the electoral college with a disparity of less than 4x votes per population between most and least populous states, while simultaneously masturbating about how great the EU is with a disparity of over 10x votes per population.
Imagine believing that ensuring both the purity of one's own bloodline and the consolidation of any associated lands and titles is not the greatest honor, privilege and pleasure that can be bestowed upon a man.
The electoral college was created specifically to keep the rural morons from putting a literal Trump in office because they're retarded inbred shitstains easily swayed by a racist demagogue, the EC has failed in it's duty just like the Republican Senators are currently failing in their duty to be a check on the executive.
Imagine actually believing what you read in a HuffPo article instead of realizing that the EC was set up to keep Virginia from swinging its big ol dick around the Union any time there was a disagreement. Pretty much exactly what it's doing right now to California. It's not really a coincidence that 6 of the first 10 presidents were Virginians.
Except that's not true at all, It honestly doesn't protect rural areas that have few deciding electoral votes, it disenfranchises a large plurality of opposite voters in states with the "winner takes all system" your vote is worthless if you're a republican in California or a Democrat in Texas. It just emphasizes the swing states with large populations, like Florida or Ohio.
Next time, try reading a civics book before you type out some dumb comment.
Founding fathers didn't want the people to vote based off party at all, and got pissed when people were given general tickets that basically described the elector (who would pick the president) by their party or pledged choice.
Safe to say, our current electoral system is already far beyond what they wanted.
My state actually requires school curriculums to say that America is a constitutional republic instead of a democracy. Every teacher would say mention they were only saying it because state law required it.
I think we should do it, it’ll probably lead to a civil war, but after the millions die they’ll be less idiots driving slow in the left lane, so win win.
Imagine thinking that the electoral college ever was used for it's intended purpose. The idea was that locals would pick people they trust to pick the president for them. From the beginning, though, everybody just picked people who said they would vote a certain way.
I oppose anything that gives California more of a say in how the nation is ran.
If everyone is so ass blasted over the EC, why don't we just return to a more federalist system where the President has no power and states can do what they want?
Political influence should be based solely on who is most numerous, says group that wants to make third world Catholics more numerous. I'll probably live long enough to see the GOP become the pro-choice party.
I used to live in upstate NY for 3 years. It was common to see taxes raised to ridiculous levels on people upstate to pay for programs in the city. People upstate got shitty service in return for their high taxes, because it was more important to take of the city because it has more people. Upstate be damned, and they can wait a week for the snowplow.
When the people from upstate vote against these higher taxes for shitty or no services, they are told "huurrrrr huurrrr you are voting against your best interest you stupid hick derrrr!"

So not a representative democracy. A direct democracy is a democracy in which every citizen has a vote on every issue.
Having to explain basic civics to hicks isn't a good argument for the EC.

But the electoral college was critical for protecting the sacred institutions of america, especially slavery.

Why the fuck would the GOP become pro-choice? That's one of their most rousing positions.
