I did a research paper this summer on this subreddit and there was a published study that found that 74% of attacks on Reddit came from 1% of source subreddits. I assume that subs like r/Drama are the 1%.
JoJo Siwa
- We have your back here. Just ignore rDrama. That sub is full of immature ifiots with no lives. All band here. You’re welcome to give your side here in peace with friends who support you.
Best to ignore bullies. Says more about them than it does about you.
They must have, I thought it was just removing comments before when you pinged people not on the list but this one just replaced the name but kept the comment.
what's wrong with being welsh? I love that one welsh comedian. you know the one: the dirty, unkempt guy who looks like he's sleeping under a bridge and who constantly jokes about inbreeding and screwing animals
So it appears they are gonna pretend their esteemed mod wasn’t a alt right nazi that used the n word. Imo this is something that will slowly fester, and come back when the next drama breaks out b/t her and devavrata17. He truly is the male version of her, like a carbon copy 😂
lol I guess so. That dev mod guy even has some "lie" flair on his account, so I guess a lie is ok as long as you can mass ban people for calling out the hypocrisy and sweep it under the rug.
I wouldn’t try to psychoanalyze anything he does. He’s the male version of belle, and there is no rhyme or reason to the way that they act. other than being highly reactionary, mayo, and irrational.
Just in general. To much heavy moderation. Makes Reddit into a job and turns subs into echo chambers.
I was wrong for supporting that. We need more engagement with each other, not less. Extremism thrives on echo chambers. I'm not saying that FtAR is violent. They're very careful to remove calls for violence (That was part of the decision to add Chapo to saferbot, because the tankies love calling for murder). But they're hurting their own cause by preventing the very engagement that helps pull people from ideologies like white supremacy.
If you want to know what actual anti-Nazi praxis looks like, check out Daryl Davis and Sarah Silverman.
Plus It would be pretty hypocritical of me to try and engage with the altright to convince them to stop being altright while moderating a sub called fuck the altright lol.
Didn't admins specifically forbid this kind of wholesale banning? I don't remember even ever posting in "Fuckthealtright". When are we gonna get our justice admins?
They absolutely did and I for one demand justice! That’s why I am officially announcing that I will be withholding sex until this great miscarriage of justice is rectified.
Yup, every subreddit has to be moderated as an "isolated community"; the wording was a little dubious at the time, but when someone questioned it the admins said that all wholesale banning would indeed breach the rules, and subs will be required to comply by April 17th 2018... lol?
I looked the rules up yesterday when I got a similar ban, albeit for participating in another sub (WatchRedditDie) and by another sub (OffMyChest). Wasn't even subbed, and made one comment that actually disagreed with someone..
Lucky escape tbh, it alerts you to srs bsns moderators who take Reddit far too seriously.
Okay so this is how subs get away with using saferbot. Saferbot only bans you if you have a targeted sub in your history and you comment or post in the sub that uses saferbot. Since you weren't banned unless you have a comment in the sub using saferbot, and subreddit rules can be basically whatever you want them to be, it's technically within the rules. You basically broke the rules by commenting in the sub that uses saferbot.
That still breaks the rules. How can you break a rule in a sub you never even participated in. The rules only apply in your domain. This type of moderation only isolates Reddit more and more.
Nope, because you're free to not comment at FtAR. They made a blanket rule that covers anyone from subs on the saferbot ban list. It's all within the rules, as they stand right now. Trust me, it's been looked into.
You have to understand that there's a lot of shady powermod shit going on here.
I fully understand that the powermod shit is shady but I think it is just admins being lazy and not wanting to police every ban on Reddit because it would mean having to dry the modding themselves.
I also have no clue what that means, you are free to not comment? The whole point being made is that mods abuse power in their communities including punishing people for actions not even done inside of said communities. Another example is powermod banning of people they don't like across their entire sub list.
I fully understand that the powermod shit is shady but I think it is just admins being lazy and not wanting to police every ban on Reddit because it would mean having to dry the modding themselves.
There's that too.

I'm just giving you the reasoning I got, when I looked into it. I'm not saying I agree with it, anymore.
Though to be fair, I was. That was part of the reasoning behind r/thebanout2018. Get subs to actually use saferbot and ban subs like TD from the rest of Reddit. I did support that and I'm not going to whitewash myself and act like I didn't.
I mean, I think users of subs like TD and CTH are an issue. Many use violent rhetoric and TD even has a body count. But making them into even more isolated echo chambers is the opposite of a solution. The solution is more engagement with people outside of their safe spaces.
So the people telling me what I was supporting was wrong, were right. I think it's important to admit things like that.
Well, I mean today and now, to be fair. I don't care about the path that got you there. I also don't think it is controversial to say T_D is shit either.
I think the isolation that mods create on Reddit is a problem in and of itself completely independent of T_D ever existing. I also think it genuinely breaks people's brains in a tangible way and has negative outcomes for society as a whole.
I got banned from a subreddit (a completely non political sub) because I responded to a post somebody made on s/the_donald . I don't subscribe to it, and my comment was disagreeing with the post (in a non threatening or aggressive way). It seems like a little much to ban someone from commenting on a post when they're moderating a completely irrelevant sub to begin with.
