Lmao imagine being so humorless that not only do you not understand certain types of humor, but you actively seek and destroy humor elsewhere that you don't understand. src
Financial and industrial software engineers are in demand. Almost all of my classmates that didn't go the way of the defense industry are either finance or chemical/oil. These fruity silicon valley types would never do it, but that is where the biggest job growth is for software engineers right now.
That was true in the 90's, when "studios" were like five guys for a large team and everyone had to write some code, except maybe the art guy.
Now it's like a handful of engine developers (if even that, considering most of that work is being done by Epic, Unity, etc, and not in-house at most studios) and then a bunch of glorified script-monkeys. They're all artists, level designers, etc, and then they have to include triggers for all the gimmicks a game has.
Maybe if these guys learned to code and started their own small studios they could see success. Or total failure. Who knows? But of course people who basically just input a bunch of scripts and "write" mediocre dialogue are going to be quickly out of a job during years light on actual work to do. Engine developers aren't laying people off, but doing that sort of work is hard.
Literally anyone with 120 IQ can do 2 years of computer science and be a good programmer. It's like being a plumber or a welder. It's not even a professional job, it's not even artisanal like being a good chef or a carpenter where there's some actual spirit and creativity in the job.
Game writing is shit for the most part, but LMAO at programmers who think they're in any way better.
In the future, Kotick said Activision-Blizzard will invest primarily in live services, http://Battle.net, and esports, with a focus on the following franchises: Candy Crush, Call of Duty, Overwatch, Warcraft, Diablo, and Hearthstone. For those franchises, Activision actually expects to increase, not reduce, development resources in 2019.

Just wait and see the quality of their games actually improve now that this particular load has been dropped

No, it's over for gamercels. Their profits have only increased and they will be focusing on mobile and the lootbox model

No wonder the Warcraft remaster is still not out.

They are never making 4

"They" doesn't exists. It's simulacrum now. A wooden doll. Serf of the dumb managers.
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-13
Good, now they can learn actual coding.
1 CulturalYogurt 2019-02-13
Or to work in a sector that isn't already drowning in devs who would work for half as much as long as it was on a videogames.
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-13
Like hardware?
1 SJCards 2019-02-13
Everyone just uses the JDM model these days. You're a Program Manager who maybe reviews the layout.
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-13
Then why the fuck do I need to know how to do KVL
1 Matthew94 2019-02-13
Can you elaborate on this? A quick google is telling me it's just another way of making an initial hardware spec.
1 SJCards 2019-02-13
Simple: they have they board layout guys, they do the nitty gritty. You mostly make sure they didn't fucking copy pasta the DDR lines on top of vias.
1 Matthew94 2019-02-13
Thanks.
1 SJCards 2019-02-13
They really, really love cheating on the DDR layout. It's a reoccurring theme. I blame Nanya.

Can't you just program and algorithm for that?

Most "game developers" aren't programmers.

I am a programmer and the only thing I disagree with is the 120 IQ comment. You just need autism and over 80 of IQ.
1 DoesntSmellLikePalm 2019-02-13
You just need
120 IQto have the willpower to make it through calculus1 furrthur 2019-02-13
let me tell you as a professional "software engineer" you hardly even need algebra
unless you're in some kind of math-heavy field like crypto or modeling or whatever, but those people are actually smart
1 error404brain 2019-02-13
Honey, sorry to disrupt your dreams, but no we aren't.
1 mactrey 2019-02-13
theres actually zero difference between smart & dumb people. you imbecile. you fucking moron
1 error404brain 2019-02-13
There are differences, but calling us crypto nerds intelligent is just plain flat out wrong. We are just significantly more autistic than the average.

1 TheCodexx 2019-02-13
If two short paragraphs and some extra comments are "longposting" then your attention span has been destroyed by twitter.
At least call me out for seriousposting.

tfw your post is too boring even for the long post bot

Looking around twitter it's mostly social media / community manager type roles that have been dropped rather than gamedevs.
