Chapocel gamers RISE UP against the tyranny of corporate layoffs at Activision-Blizzard. A multi-subreddit firestorm summarized.

1  2019-02-13 by MehmedIIDidNoWrong

Our appetizer tonight is /r/games. More pseudo-intellectual and up their own ass, comments here won't be as spicy as one might expect. They're all about seeming self-righteous and journalistic, and is more heavily modded. However to get our palette acquainted with our dish tonight, we'll dip our toes in here:

Telling people in the last hour of their day is just pointlessly cruel. We can and should treat people better. Edit: Lotta you people completely missing the point and it's not cute. The fact that this practice is the status quo does not justify it.

its crazy how much capitalism and anti-unionization are fucking up the AAA gaming industry, but edgelord gamers still think their libertarian sensibilities aren't going directly against their interests wrt games

Anyone who throws their hands up and says "welp, that's a bummer! but it's just how it goes" is playing into the hands of the ridiculously rich and greedy executives who do this. Microtransactions in full price games, lootbox gambling, layoffs when making record profit, dozens of different "deluxe" editions, these are all symptoms of the same problem - greed. The desire to make exponentially more profit every year by any means necessary. It's disgusting.

Some star wars comparisons for some reason

Next up tonight we move onto our main course: /r/gaming. Your average run of the mill retard gamer. Currently sitting at #1 on /r/all at the time of me writing this with 22,000 upvotes, this thread will provide an ample amount of nonsense to fill our bellies up. Above is sorted by controversial, but select dishes include:

Guy gets a 15 million bonus and meanwhile 800 people are losing their jobs because they need to “cut costs.” Stop making excuses for these companies, if they can’t afford to pay people a live able wage then they don’t deserve to be in business.

Just keep repeating that capitalism is the 'superior' method of organising economic activity. CEO Bobby Kotick certainly agrees!

the fact that this is considered "normal practice" is what's causing so much outrage. bcos it doesn't make any god damn sense to the rest of the world. just pure $$$$$$$$$$ driving all their decisions nothing more nothing less. fuq the workers who helped them generate their record breaking profits this year.

That's just capitalism, and it's been going on for its entire history. . .giant fucking effort post I dont want to bother formatting

A lot of people here talking about how they could TOTALLY do the job of a C-level executive with all their burger-flipping ability.

Finally for dessert, we come to the most dramatic of them all: /r/wow. Unlike the former two courses, /r/wow is a place of over-salted dishes that has been festering for the past year of poor game performance, and boy are they ready to scapegoat. Perhaps the taste will be a bit sharp, but this drama will make it a dish you'll never forget:

Massive melodramatic meltdown over the immorality of firing people

But people want to hate Blizzard so fucking bad right now that something that is honestly pretty minor is being turned into "BURN EVERYTHING YOU OWN WITH ACTIVSZZARD NAMES ON IT!!! KILL THE HERITICS!!!"

Are you absolutely fucking kidding me? One of the greatest CMs to ever grace the forums (active as fuck, btw) gets laid off meanwhile Josh "catch me on twitch" Allen gets to keep his position? Are you fucking kidding me??? Really??? They started the earnings call with saying they have RECORD numbers and an emphasis on IMPROVING communication between the community and the developers and you FIRE one of the most positive and active voices among the CMs for WoW???????

who determines how many jobs are available in a company? is it handed down on a stone tablet from on high, perhaps? or do executives determine the number of available jobs based on a perceived need for constantly expanding profit?

Enjoy you animals.

Bahahhaha. This is totally individualized. First of all. And people don't change, second of all. You should never ever ever get online and preach again. You don't understand reality at all.

People are the exact same they were 1000 years ago, you fucking psycho. People don't change kid. Grow the fuck up and stop whining so much. Your life is your fault. You've been given opportunity most everyone from the past 20,000 years could only dream of. You're a loser and we didn't do it. We tried to help. You did it. You are that

Dope effort post 👌😎

Thank you bb. <3

It was delicious, thanks! Compliments to the chef

Unironically, if these "community managers" learned to code, they'd still have jobs since dev jobs are not being cut.

A lot of the calls are retarded. They're firing community managers actually liked by the community and are involved, but are keeping others like lore that are clearly disinterested and want nothing to do with the game.

Community Managers may not raise actual capital like the investors in our public company want, but they do raise our emotional capital and are cool xudes who don't afraid of anything.

Mate you don't know blizzards "communities". It is pure cancer and community managers are to blame for that.

800 PEOPLE Great post OP. 👌

Excellent meal, I'm stuffed. Send my compliments to the chef 👌

Thanks for doing this so the rest of us can enjoy

"It's a private company, they can do what they want."

"Wait no, not like that."

"It's a private company, they can do what they want."

that's not what Chapolacks believe at all

Weren't they part of the large crowd saying that when the gay frog guy was getting deplatformed?

I could totally be wrong, I don't keep close track of their idiocy.

I think they were being ironic. Or idiotic. It's hard to tell.

Many lefties here unironically defended all the shit twitter, patreon, apple, mastercard and other companies did to deplatform these rightoitds. That's why it's a meme.

Many lefties

Liberals are not leftists.

I think there was a bit of an element of "by your retarded logic companies are good and a company did it".

This is politics in [current year]. Just as Neal Stephenson predicted.

You know, when I was a young man, hypocrisy was deemed the worst of vices,” “It was all because of moral relativism. You see, in that sort of a climate, you are not allowed to criticise others-after all, if there is no absolute right and wrong, then what grounds is there for criticism? Now, this led to a good deal of general frustration, for people are naturally censorious and love nothing better than to criticise others’ shortcomings. And so it was that they seized on hypocrisy and elevated it from a ubiquitous peccadillo into the monarch of all vices. For, you see, even if there is no right and wrong, you can find grounds to criticise another person by contrasting what he has espoused with what he has actually done. In this case, you are not making any judgment whatsoever as to the correctness of his views or the morality of his behaviour-you are merely pointing out that he has said one thing and done another. Virtually all political discourse in the days of my youth was devoted to the ferreting out of hypocrisy.

You can type 10,000 characters and you decided that these were the one's that you wanted.

Yes, they were.

And chapocels don't really have an ideology. Just imagine your most basic 1980's punk rocker and stick a Nintendo Switch in his hands instead (or alongside) a crack pipe.

What do Redditors think CEOs do? Polish gold coins all day?

It's next level cope, unironically. They're late 20's/early 30's losers in a dead end job and realizing they wont be anything in life, so they insist they could totally do the job of a multi-millionaire but they were just fucked out of it.

This is the shit I dont understand about CEO/CFO hate. I work for a Fortune 500 company and the CEO is working 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even just the General Managers are working 80+ hour work weeks. These guys work their asses off and obviously will make bank because their are ultimately responsible for performance of the company.

It's easier for these kids to digest "the big evil CEO Voldemort man" over "the big evil shareholders" like their parents are.

They don't know. They really don't have a clue what it's like in the upper echelons of a company. To them, work means doing the bare minimum of what they are directly ordered to do for about 20 hours a week.

I mean, I worked for a big coperation that had a record profit year, which was rewarded by the CEO with the closure of the oldest factory in my country and the 'letting go' of 900 employees, so it could bebputsourced to China. Oh and also our christmas bonuses were all cut, while upper managment gave itself a 25 % pay increase.

I thinl examples like that is why they hate CEOs

Fuck, I have to seriouspost but...

Why shouldn't the work be outsouced to China?

Why should the consumer and the shareholders be content with more expensive goods, just for the benefit of some factory workers?

And let's say that everyone kept their jobs, but still got a shit deal. What has the CEO done wrong? If it was stupid for them to get the pay raise or the severance, why have the shareholders allowed them to have the money? Are the kapital owners just retarded and giving away free money?

I do understand the entire concept of shareholder value and yada yada, that does not mean I have to be in support of it. Matter of fact, I think it is the root of most issues that I have with capitalism namely the value of short term thinking over long term sustainability.

Buddy you are in Germany, come on you have literal tree huggers in Hambacher Wald while China doubles the amount of plastic in the sea every couple of years, are the evil capitalists fucking with the environment in Germany? Concern for the environment (unfortunately) is a luxury.

And to long term thinking, do you think this factory would get more efficient if they kept their workers for a couple more years? What kind of long term thinking would change the things they have done? If certain factors make factory work in Germany profitable again, couldn't they just restart, without losing money for a couple of years?

My goal isn't to fellate the holy CEOs for some retarded american dream or something, but I value understanding situations, and I feel that it's severely lacking, especially when criticizing capitalism.

I mean, I don't even know what you are trying to tell me with this, I am sorry. What do some neo hippies in the Hambacher Forest have to do with China or my issue with modern capitalism? Like do you believe that I think China is not part of the problem or has its very own issues? Because I most certainly don't.

The issue is also not factories in Germany being not profitable. They are. They are not profitable enough. Especially not in a system that value quarterly shareholder reports over long term sustainabiity of the company. Like I already said, the company I worked for went to shit, because of the changes, which were in short term very profitable, but chewed away at the foundation of the company and eventually led to its downfall. Not that the CEO gave much of a shit, because he got away with a nice severence package.

You talking about the environment bugs me because you are living with some of the most environmentally conscious people in the world, but still find reason to bitch, and tie it to modern capitalism.

Do you think it's reasonable for kapital owners to be content with the alright profits of their current ventures (or be forced to be content), when they can risk what they have for more? (Which, unlike gambling, is generally profitable, as this is what our modern world runs on)

I honestly don't see much of a problem with a business failing when it's not feasible anymore, of course it sucks for the older workforce, when they can't adapt to jobmarket or when the local market is shit, but is hampering the living standarts of everybody to keep a few employed justified?

Which does not mean that our environment is not completely fucked. We literally just experiencing a complete collapse of the insect and bird population.

No. Which is why I also think capitalism is flawed.

Except a good chunk of everybody is somewhat affected. Like I said, income inequality is at all time highs, the middle class got gutted and the only people that got really richer are the richest.

Anyways buddy, I'm just happy to know that you are not a complete chapotard. Remember to vote AfD!

AfD is way to incel to vote for

True, that's why they are trying to keep the K A R A B O Ğ As out.

I hope /u/IDFSHILL got a hot take in

C'mon guys. Dknt you wish r/worldpeace was around just this ONE time.

I unironically appreciate the effort you put into this post.

When this entire shitshow started, I felt like it's the second Christmas, but your post is the third. Thank you

From what I understand a big issue is that with all the countries banning loot boxes as gambling, blizzard is expecting a large loss of revenue. So basically this is in part due to government regulation.

Hahaha watch the unemployed gamercels show how little they know about taxes

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/apyf2z/activisionblizzard_begins_massive_layoffs/egc5a0n

the constant whining about capitalism is hilarious given megabudget computer games like Blizzard publishes could not exist any other way

megabudget entertainment is almost always super-AIDS no matter the medium

REEEEEEEEEEE CAPITALISM BAD

lol these retards understand that the only reason the video game industry is as big as it is is literally because of capitalism, right?

nobody cares about this gaymer shit bring back the daily Quran verse

I'm trying some avant-garde shit bitch damn. Whitey always trying to keep me down smh.

Gamer socialism is absolutely sad/hilarious. These people think that AAA games just grow from the Earth and that big companies are simply gatekeeping access to them. Anyone who unironically says “they sold X million copies, how could the game be considered a failure” or “they said they had a good quarter, why are they laying people off?” is simply not qualified to opine on these matters.

Maybe they should learn a trade.

😴
