The Moderation Situation

Hello everyone, in light of recent events I'm here to provide a bit of transparency on some allegations made against our lead moderator Merari01 . Merari is a moderator of a number of subreddits including /r/Fuckthealtright, /r/Eyebleach, and this one, /r/ContraPoints. There has been some confusion about how these subreddits have been using saferbot to ban users of certain subs, namely /r/ChapoTrapHouse.

/r/Eyebleach and /r/ContraPoints, never have and never will use Saferbot to ban /r/ChapoTrapHouse users. While /r/Fuckthealtright does ban users from /r/ChapoTrapHouse this was a team decision made as a last resort to curtail bad faith participation. There never have been plans to use saferbot on Eyebleach, though there has been talk of implementing an filter for manual approval of comments made by recent users of CTH. This to attempt to control the massive bad faith participation coming from that subreddit. There is currently a campaign against Merari, based on the false allegations and quotes misinterpreted or taken out of context.

/r/ChapoTrapHouse has a number of threads at the moment which are centralising this false information and are brigading subreddits Merari is involved with, including this one, and we cannot allow that. If you have any concerns about this subreddit, please post them here. We believe in transparency so feel free to ask anything you want about us and our policies.

This is the post about this issue and any other posts about this will be removed and anyone making personal attacks against our moderators will be banned.

That does not mean that you may not ask questions, only that you have to stop sending our moderators death threats as this is absolutely unacceptable.

I cannot stress enough, there has never been a discussion between the mods of /r/ContraPoints about mass banning of CTH users. We will never auto ban CTH users. That is a promise and if it is broken then I will step down as a moderator of /r/ContraPoints.

Merari01 founded this subreddit, and is the "lead moderator" here.

Merari01's moderation dynamics with other subreddits don't come in to the moderation policy of /r/ContraPoints.

We don't undertake actions unilaterally to a given moderator, not even /u/Merari01, not even /u/Contrapoints.

We are a team, and we operate by rules, not by fiat and not by personality.

That was important, to me personally, because of all the moderation team, I am the one most given to taking things over and running them by force of personality.

When the persons behind this harassment campaign and witch-hunt chose to pick /u/Merari01 as the "power-hungry moderator" to claim "mod abuse"?

They clearly didn't do their research, and they don't know our team.
