They banned me from r/MGTOW before I could even have a conversation.

And they aren't. If you really knew what both groups were like and actually talked to them with an open mind you'd know they aren't the same whatsoever. Incels a lot of the times are truly ugly, autistic (in the meme sense or not), with disabilities or just plain weird. They try to fit in but they are just like that. They try to get women but are rejected. Their hate (it can be seen in only some incels, mind you) towards women comes from the fact that in their early life they may have been mistreated or their trust broken several times by women. C'mon, ladies we all know that we love to have a guy around that we know he likes us but we don't like back. It's morally wrong but our ego loves it. If you actually talked to an incel you'd actually feel bad for any of them. Some of their life's stories are really depressing. One had to do a heart surgery when he was a baby and because of that he couldn't do sports or any activity that would lead him to pressure his heart. He was fat. He was ugly. He just couldn't lose weight. On top of that, ever since he was a kid he was the weird type. Talking by himself, running in circles in the playground, really quiet. He got bullied a lot throughout his life. From people trying to be his friend to know things about him and mock him, to having a girl he liked bully him so that she could climb the social ladder. Only in high school he had a bit of friendship but after that nothing. He went to uni and had no friends. No connections. His parents always told him "Just stop being weird". This caused him to expect people to mistreat him. He thought "What's the way this person can fuck me up?". It's understandable. Surprisingly, he didn't hate women. Just people in general. If you can't be a little bit compassionate then I don't know what the fuck is wrong with you. Now, MGTOW is very different. A lot of them are not actually young men. A lot are old men that are just sick of trying to please women. Some have had a divorce and lost a lot of what they build in their life. Some evn lost custody to their kids because family court favors women. Some had gfs and got cheated on heartlessly. People get sick of this. It's only natural. So they decided to not give a shit about women and just try to find happiness by themselves. They are perfectly fine individuals (which incels in a lot of cases aren't) but they just don't give a shit. Is it that wrong that someone wants to find happiness? Just let them be.
