I totally realize most people are going to disagree with me here but I feel compelled to say that closing the sub for a joke wasn't a very kind thing to do. We have seen TONS of posts from vulnerable populations talking about how this sub is a source of support and humor in a dark time. Irony and dirtbagism aside, taking away that support without warning was not okay.
You can say I'm being silly, or humorless or reactionary. Whatever. I love the show and I love this community. But sometimes I come home after dealing with ableism and our nightmare reality all day, and this sub is one of many things that make me feel better. It wasn't a good feeling to find this sub closed for the sake of irony. Maybe that's laughable or pathetic. But for me, it's true.
In another exchange, one official wrote about an applicant with “perfect 2400 SAT All 5 on AP one B in 11th.”
“Brown?!” another responded.
“Heck no,” the first wrote back. “Asian.”
“Of course,” the other wrote.
i don't think admissions at most schools i applied to were "holistic" (read:horseshit) when i was applying but holy fuck if somebody talked about my application like this i would be SEETHING.
Lmao my entire college experience has been seething. 2400 SAT and rejected from every Ivy. I'm surprised I never went down the /r/aznmasculinity route.
i didn't apply to ivies bc i wanted to stay in the south, and then ended up going to LSU because they threw buckets of money at me and i got to stay near family. I would've been miserable at duke. If i actually had borderline standardized test scores for college or grad school I probably would've resented affirmative action admissions.
When does AA end? I think I get the point of AA—give historically underprivileged people a leg up in an area where they haven’t been given a fair shot. But what happens 100 years from now when those underprivileged groups have caught up to privileged groups? I don’t think they will band together and say, “Yup, we’re privileged now. Stop AA for my group.” Does AA ever stop? If you’re underprivileged now, are you forever underprivileged? Can privileged groups become underprivileged over time? I’m not woke enough someone help me.
My favorite thing is to watch ashy Americans slay and tell you that whites girls actually benefit the most from AA, but then when you press them and say let’s abolish AA they all of a sudden need to help them Wypipo out so it has to stag

No. The current constitutional justification for AA rests on the compelling interest in "diversity" rather than on notions about helping historically disfavored groups "catch up."
While Justice O'Connor's opinion in the 2003 case Grutter v. Bollinger suggested in an aside that AA might be unnecessary 25 years hence, the liberal justices expressly rejected that part of the opinion, and there's no obvious reason why diversity wouldn't be just as important in 3003 as in 2003.
The rate of admissions into high tier universities compared by blacks and whites but it’s pretty much applicable to every race that isn’t black.
Black people are given a ton of leeway compared to white applicants and an essentially mediocre test score is like gold for these people so we have a combination of bigotry of low expectations plus using affirmative action to take away positions of kids who did much better than them. Just as anti-racism activists intended 👍
“Can we get excited for this brown ... boy who’s being raised by his grandfather, wants to become a surgeon, #2 in his class?" an admissions officer wrote in one online chat unearthed by opponents of affirmative action. "Yes! Admit w/ merit!”
In another chat, an employee wrote: “Give these brown babies a shot at these merit $$."
“If its brown and above a 1300 put them in for merit/Excel,” read a third chat, referring to financial aid at the university.
I suspect that a lot of the existing support for AA policies is going to evaporate if it becomes clear that people of different races are being charged different prices for the same education.
People are probably fine with a little "bump" in the odds of admission, but if it turns out they are paying $60K a year while the AA admit with similar (or worse) grades and test scores is getting a free ride, then even a lot of progressive liberals will be pissed.
SFFA is led by (((Edward Blum))) , a longtime opponent of affirmative action who was also the architect of a legal challenge against the University of Texas at Austin

Mello Yello tastes like watered down off-brand Mountain Dew. Miss me with that piss.

I don’t get how it would be surprising if the kid was brown, either. Indians do that shit all the time, too.
1 ManBearFridge 2019-02-20
They are considered Asian I do believe
1 MalcolmFFucker 2019-02-20
They’re both Asian and brown, but in American parlance “Asian” usually just means East Asian.
1 DrZerglingMD 2019-02-20
They're brown people when they need extra faces to lump into racism claims or diversity positions, but otherwise treated like mayos
1 KingWayneX 2019-02-20
west asians = white se asians = asian south asian = indian north asian = asian
1 ffbtaw 2019-02-20
Alternatively Asians and Indians can be considered white when appropriate.

>“If its brown and above a 1300 put them in for merit/Excel,”
why even call them merit scholarships lmao
1 iansmith223 2019-02-20
Is that on the old one out of 2400? Because that’s an abysmal score. Even with the new scores it’s far below the average UNC score.
1 Coonass_alt 2019-02-20
you have to assume, i took the sat in like 2009 and i remember my score being like 2340 so the old score is really old.
1 iansmith223 2019-02-20
They changed it to the new one out of 1600 in 2016 and a lot of these emails seem to be before that so i think you’re right.
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-20
1300/1600 is still pretty bad
1 UmmahSultan 2019-02-20
Not if you have an intrinsic racial inferiority holding you back.
1 MalcolmFFucker 2019-02-20
It’s an adequate score overall, but it ain’t good for someone who is trying to get a merit scholarship to a decent university
1 BCUOSPSEY 2019-02-20
It’s probably in the 90th percentile lol. You don’t just divide the small number by the big number like your special ed teacher taught you to do.
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-20
Yeah, but for a merit scholarship?
1 BCUOSPSEY 2019-02-20
Didn’t see anything in your post about a merit scholarship but if you keep banging those quizlets out I’m sure you can get one too
1 aX10mAt1CaL1Y 2019-02-20
OP said that the bitch got a merit scholarship you mong
1 tschwib 2019-02-20
