A plethora of drama between mods and users goes down at r/misophonia with mods deleting all evidence after insulting the user base, the sub and attempting to shape the community on how they see fit; rogue mod ends up stepping down

This sub is started getting cluttered with posts that seem like entries in a diary or something one would pay on Facebook. We're trying to use this sub as a means of being the go to for actual research and coping mechanisms. Yes, we can say that because we are connected to universities that are actively studying misophona/sensory processing disorders. So the weekly venting thread will become the open thread, to openly vent or just talk about your day. Remember, this group isn't just for people who suffer. This is also a group for researchers or people who have just heard about it and are curious. We want to keep it positive but also professional.

This post is deleted and received the most comments and the mod who made it is all over the sub getting downvoted and being inflammatory.

I've already asked that any problems with the mod staff be kept to DM. The last post that was made by me was a trainwreck, and it seemed that most people didn't understand why the post was made. It was mostly bitching. I don't want to be "that mod," but I will be dishing out temporary bans for people who can't comprehend the simple rules we have. What can you post about? Asking for coping techniques. That's fine. Advocating unverified treatments? Sorry. It's clearly stated that you can't post about that. Why? Because what works for you might not work for others, and it's on you if it hurts the person who listened to you. So yes, we will be strict on that. Are you looking for good headphones/noise cancelling whatever? Sure, go for it. I've been active in helping people find that myself, as I have had to deal with that in training for work myself. Just read the rules. It's not hard. If you don't agree, leave. We honestly don't care. This is about positivity, adovating, and research. If you want to complain, we have inboxes you can message. If you don't like the sub, make your own. We don't care. We are connected to the best researchers for misophonia/SPD out there, so have fun. At the end of the day, our rules aren't as bad as you think. We give a thread to open venting/talking about personal stuff. But this is the reddit sub for official research. End of story. Thanks for listening.

People are angery and demand to know if this is a joke

Not really. The original post was reasonable and then everyone got defensive over nothing. I literally said they can still post, just in a weekly thread. Then I got attacked. You think it's easy being on te forefront of misophonia research? It's not. Us mods have been attacked relentlessly because all we want to do is help sufferers without fear of being exploited by other people. If you, or anyone else, has a problem with that, then you are the problem. We literally devote nothing but our time to this. We make zero dollars off of what we do. You could go explore the people who are willing to make a buck off of you, but we are trying to prevent that. I've been doing this for years, I've written articles, I've helped out, and now I mod this group. I've made exactly $0. I want to see something happen in our lifetime to help everyone, because I've been a sufferer for 20+ years, and I want the new generation of sufferers to know its real and something is being done. So sorry if my selflessness has come across as "rude." I do this for everyone, not myself, and not for profit.

  • In one last effort to contain the drama, the top mod makes a post to address it where they apologize, throw their (ex)fellow mod under the bus and lets the sub know the rogue mod is stepping down Drama, Moderation and Rules

You're not shit next to me. My genes are just light years superior to yours and I don't even need to look at you.
