Lol everyone in that thread is so fucking stupid. 3D printing hasn't really improved much since 2008 and you have been able to print guns for over 10 years now. Recently there's been a lot of hype over 3D printing metal with materials like stainless and tool steel but most of it is REALLY, REALLY overpriced garbage. I'm talking like mega expensive way out of the average person's price range and the manufactures dick you over with a huge number of hidden costs and bullshit restrictions that aren't known to the general public and are not advertised.
For instance, did you know that for one of the big companies (I'm not going to name them since they monitor their name being mentioned on social media like a hawk and the CEO will fucking call you himself) once the special furnace you need to buy has been started for the first time you cannot move it? They chose an insulation that will fall off if the setup gets moved even slightly after it hardens. They'll come and fix it for you though, for a small $10,000 fee of course. The furnace itself also is worthless for most things and isn't to the advertised size specifications and the printer itself won't print to advertised sizes either depending on what material you use in it due to poor design when it needs to purge. On top of this, you need a bunch of expensive materials and gasses to run the setup that expire quickly and need to be constantly replaced, which are of course not talked about during purchase. I could go on and on for ages ranting about the big metal printer startups since I have first hand experience dealing with a few of them but a couple are trying to raise like $50 million right now and any more info I give will get me doxxed easily since I've complained to them before about these issues.
Home 3D printing is really cool, but it’s also more limited than the media treats it. News articles act like it’s a Star Trek machine, not a plastic molding machine.
Pretty sure there is a 99% 3D printed gun that just needs a nail and a spring for the hammer, but it’s single shot .22lr with like an 80% chance of exploding in your hand.
TBH I'd consider 3D printing a few of these things just to see how many rounds I can put down range before it falls apart. Granted, I'd need to make a little contraption to pull the trigger so it doesn't explode in my face but still.

I wish. The post that made them call was only up for a few hours and only a couple hundred people saw it before the phones lit up.
