Remedy to seriousposting - try being something else than what you already are on /r/drama
37 2019-03-20 by DramaPostAcct
I am a long-time lurker (since about 2.5 years ago, when Trump started his campaign), and an occasional poster (I delete and create accounts regularly). People here dislike seriousposts, and for good reasons. From what I have seen, the number one cause of seriousposts is believing in anything seriously. Leftoid or rightoid, incel or chad, whatever you are, you must let go of your beliefs to loosen up in your posts. And the best way to do this, from my experience, is to pretend being something what I am not.
When I was 20, I had a religious crisis, torn between Christianity and atheism. At the same time, I also found Internet forums. As someone with too much time to waste, I decided to pretend to be a fundamentalist Christian on various religion-related forums and early subreddits. I came up with stuff about how the Earth is 6000 years old, how scientists are actually Satanists, how dinosaurs never existed (sorry cdace), and such. Sometimes people saw through my attempts, but most of the times they bit the bait, all the while I was laughing behind the screen. Gradually, I became an atheist.
And when I was an atheist, I started to get pretty tired of the cringy stuff that the likes of /r/atheism were posting, so I decided to pretend to be a radical atheist and say stuff I didn't believe in. Gradually, my conviction in atheism waned, and now I am in the middle of the road regarding religion.
Like that, I urge you to have an "opposite month" and pretend that you are now on the opposite side of what you have been so far. If you are a leftoid, go rightoid for a month and start ranting about how climate change is a hoax. If you are a rightoid, try posting about how you dislike Trump and love AOC for a while. I don't mean just leaving a couple sarcastic lines, I mean you should really try to pretend to be what you are not. Put yourself in their shoes. Most importantly, don't forget to rile people up; exaggerate a bit if necessary.
And be innovative in your posts. For example, when I was pretending to be a fundamentalist Christian, the fact that every Christian was anti-abortion bored me, so I pretended to be a rare pro-abortion Christian, justifying with Bible verses that abortion is good because it would send babies straight to heaven. Going a bit astray from the party lines of your chosen side can be pretty fun.
And lastly, don't delete your post history when you do it. The confusion people get when looking at your multiple personality disorder-resembling post history can be a source of drama itself.
And no, longposting is not the same thing as seriousposting.

If you do it and say nothing funny or ironic and act like you have grand advice to give to the rest of us plebs, it is.
I wish you an interminable pain in your side.

Well all things are possible through Christ, so you can jot that down.

In one sentece: If everyone pretends to be something else that they are not, we can end seriousposting.

I had fucking Dennys today. It's unreal, I make myself bacon, eggs and pancakes and I feel fine, but one visit to Denny's and my colon feels like it's holding 40 lbs of toxic waste.

Seems rude but ok. I get that sometimes when I run, between 0.5 to 1.5 miles in. It does go away so interminability intensifies

Look, as a meta-Reddit community seriousposting is essential to the fabric of our community. Just think: if a lolcow was just pretending, are they even a lolcow? Does that make you the lolcow for taking them seriously? By that logic, shouldnβt we downvote lolcows as obvious bait because they were probably pretending, or should we instead upvote because they were seriousposting? Like wave particle duality, our position as observers irrevocably alters the nature of what we observe.
I will take a third and enlightened position. If you vote, you chose a side and lose enlightenment. Congratulations. You proved you werenβt just pretending and outed yourself. The voters are the lolcows, because they demonstrably believe in something and act upon it. Voting in the first place is fundamentally anti-Centric. Itβs literally the ultimate and final partisan act.

I don't feel that Mr. Platy would say this. Mr. Platy wouldn't use so many emojis to express his point of view.

What do you pretend to be if you're a habitually apathetic 20-something mayo with no real personality to speak of, who's never really given enough of a shit about any cause to identify with it?
Asking for a friend.

You probably have emotions under the dysthymia. Maybe pick a hobby or sign up for counseling--all this to your friend of course.
