As someone of partial Russian ancestry, I can tell you that the term “Ruthenian” was a synonym for ethnic Russians that were ruled by the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Evidence for this can be seen in the etymology of the names of the so-called countries of Belarus and Ukraine, Belarus literally means White Russia in the Russian language, while Ukraine is the word for Border, a reference to the fact that it was historically divided between Russia and Poland. The fact that Belarusians and Ukrainians are basically ethnic Russians that were ruled the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth (the idea that Poland was ever a powerful country, may sound like a joke today, However, it was shockingly true 400 years ago), can also be proven by the fact that any linguist with expertise in Slavic languages will tell you, that the only difference bettween the Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian languages is that Ukrainian and Belarusian have a significant amount of Polish loan words, meaning that Ukrainian and Polish are essentially Russian dialects with Polish influence. Together all this proves that Ukrainians and Belarusians are basically Russians who had the unfortunate circumstance of being influenced by the Polaks (this ruined their language and lowered their IQ) and brainwashed by foreign powers (Austria-Hungary, Nazi Germany, and the U$ Empire come to mind) to hate their Great Russian compatriots.
