Now for something totally different: NYC approves "congestion pricing" and the twitter thread is a shitshow. Don't worry, drama, there's cries of racism in there, too, because it's 2019 so of course

What's the thought process here? It's too cost-effective and time-saving for people using these roads?

The idea is that by increasing costs to these roads, fewer people will use them, thus solving congestion problems.

But people are probably already adding that congestion into their commute time and figuring they are saving time (or they'd use another road). Seems like the state or city figures that for the people who pay, their time is worth more.

And now they'll save more time, which is good. Traffic is a problem that each individual driver contributes to. Congestion pricing simply represents an attempt to make drivers internalize the costs that they're imposing on others.

Congestion pricing is a money grab and further tax on NY residents and businesses. Why not just charge the FHV companies that have flooded the streets and taken revenue from the MTA? Why is NYC making these silicon valley execs rich, $ should go to the drivers.

For a guy named chad, he is not a chad.

I thought the only people who could own a car in Manhattan were Silicon Valley execs anyways.

Well you were wrong. Some drive taxis!

I thought NYC and SF/Silicon Valley were the only cities that should have a say on how the country is run?

Seattle, LA, Austin, NYC and DC are the only settlements in the United States.

one of those is not like the others

It's over for Chicago-cels.

:(

As a StLouis-let, I stand behind this

Cars in city are g-y. We should tear up the roads and replace them with trams and rickshaws. Also bring back polio and kick out the i*ish. I'm only kidding about one of these.

I agree with every single one of those points.

Ireland now being the richer country doesn't want no american poors

Ireland is still a bumfuck dirty country either way. Literally the pajeetistan of Europe

but it's filthy rich bumbfuck dirty country and they are not taking a bunch of drunks who left the town back in

Taxation is a tool to discourage behaviors with have a negative societal impact, like smoking, alcohol, and driving cars

Being an alchy that smokes two packs a day is the same as driving a car.

Also

people believing the state gives a shit about encouraging anything other than you giving them more of your money

dude lmao it's for your own good lmao

You ain't very bright.

driving a car is worse

About 10k times more likely to kill you before 50.

Not even just that, but that we should allocate who gets to drink based on who makes the most money. Congestion pricing says that its ok for rich people to drive into the city but not poor people. It's fucking great! Keep poorf-slurs out of midtown wooooo!

Well, poors people should suffer, so that's a good step for all of us.
