It's not a joke, I personally don't see the point of closing it since the racist/sexists/homophobic dickheads will still be there and just be more angry on the 2nd when the sub reopens.
Any troll worth their salt knows they're not gonna get a reaction in the discussion thread. The real salt comes from waiting until they've "purged the wrong thinkers" and feel secure that they'll never have to be challenged in their feeling of moral superiority.
Unfortunately they will indeed purge wrong thinkers that are neither trolls nor bigots in the process. Any dissenting person with reasonable priorities is not going to swim upstream for the pleasure of contributing to a sub like this. They will end up with trolls and people almost completely aligned with the mods way of thinking. This happens in all kind of subs and they end up being almost uniform in terms of opinion and content.
And contributors that attracted normies to their subreddit will leave because as more things become off limits less people will risk posting things that get them banned.
Pretty much. It's just a feedback loop. I am not going to go to battle with some mod thought police. I have other things to do during my day. I will just stop participating. Which is what most sane people will do. Only trolls and people already ideologically in line with the mods will stick around. I don't care what the subject is, that does not create an interesting forum.
Worse than that, they're being accusatory and blowing what is actually a trivial issues way out of proportion. There is no group of nearly two million people that isn't peppered with assholes of all stripes. Suggesting that a small number of heavily downvoted remarks is some kind of epidemic or worthy of a scalding rant directed at all 1.7 million users is just silly and almost certain to be counterproductive. To me this just comes off as a way for the mod team to feel virtuous and seek out praise rather than actually accomplish anything.
It's /r/Games. Of course there is no fun or jokes in that sub. They have mods that will ban you for making .gifs related to gaming or delete stuff so they can post it themselves for karma.
I appreciate a gaming sub actually dedicated to talking about games without the stupid shit of r/gaming, but a bunch of the users of r/games have a whole orchard up their ass.
r/games is unironically terrible. It's a bunch of retard gamers who think they are smart because they're posting on a meme-free sub with a serious tone.
Just go read any post discussing the Epic Games Store, game company stock prices or game engines to see hot takes about business, economics and programming from a bunch of people who know nothing about those things.
Oh yeah, there’s plenty of dumbasses all over it, but I don’t really give a fuck about any of the topics where they show their asses. I’m just there for news, review threads, and recs usually.
Again, far-and-away better than wading through r/gaming’s thousands of “pIc Of tHe WiFe PlAyInG ZeLdA wHiLe I bAkE a WiTcHeR-tHeMeD cAkE” posts.

Alright alright I yield. That place is actually super intellectual 😎.
Remember that the next time you see the 'Epic Games Store isn't competition!' circlejerk, even though Valve reduced their cut in response to Epic Games Store launch.
So you think the people here are serious? The only serious people are the ones who came from another sub, saw one post and now think it is a left or rightwing sub, but they get laughed at when they post their first and only seriouspost.
see hot takes on business, economics and programming from a bunch of people who know nothing about any of those things
That's fucking everywhere though. Like sure, Ashleigh-Lynn, go ahead and enlighten me about the economic impact of tariffs even though you only passed 12th grade English because you gave the teacher a blowie in his 1996 Geo Metro in the lot out back behind where the cross country kids have fellowship meetings.
Even the circle jerk sub is dominated by a bunch of ideological idiots taking themselves very seriously. Though I guess that's how most circle jerk subs end up.
I'm pretty sure i've seen hundreds of users complain about the moderation on that sub over the years, sometimes even in highly upvoted meta posts on the frontpage.
I'm fairly certain that this move by them will be applauded by their community....
Of that I have little doubt. A lot of subs like this moderate and lock threads and ban users so flippantly the only ones left are users that overwhelmingly align with the viewpoint of the mod team. They make their own feedback loops.
The entire community the other day was shitting on notch for the silly stuff he posts on twitter. /r/games leans SUPER far to the left. Their community doesn't tolerate any of the shit that was linked, yet somehow the mods think ...
At r/Games, our community is becoming increasingly responsible for perpetuating a significant amount of these combative and derogatory schools of thought.
RESPONSIBLE? You mean the few morons posting stupid shit, that you had to dig as far back as a year on some comments to find examples of? The posts that were all either instantly deleted or had heavy downvotes before being deleted? How the fuck does that make the subreddit "responsible" for what they are talking about?
I also just disagree with the premise that any person or group (especially a subreddit lmao) has any responsibility to regulate their speech on the internet, just because it MAY make people think things that a specific group of people disagree with.
I want them to show me a fucking example that was heavily upvoted. They link to shit that was deleted instantly, or had a bunch of downvotes before it was deleted.
The entire post is just them shoving a tube up their ass so they can directly inhale their own gas.
I have to agree. I took some time to go through the examples they put in their locked sticky, to see if there really was no merrit to the posts they removed. Turns out some are not as bad as they are described to be, and others actually raise valid points and in the interest of fairness (since the opposite of those opionions is allowed or even encouraged on /r/Games) should not have been removed:
"Sonicfox is an asshole who thinks just because he's gay or black he has a right to say whatever and is honestly the worst thing in the current FGC. Even Low tier god has the decency to keep his mouth shut sometimes".
Seriously which part of that comment do they find offensive? Sonicfox IS an asshole: when he accepted some award it was the most cringe worthy shit I've ever seen and honestly I cannot watch it again: https://youtu.be/1jz0WE5C2Nc?t=549 - he basically starts off by talking about his sexuality and is dressed like a furry. When accepting an award for playing a fighting game. But he cannot be called out for that? Don't allow assholes like Sonicfox to turn something irrelevant like their sexuality into a 'shield'.
As a medical professional: promoting transgenderism, a mental illness, as normal is sicknening
That's not transphobia. That's saying we should treat it as a medical issue, not promote as 'the new normal'. Gender dysphoria is real, and just like being 'transabled' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_integrity_dysphoria) those people deserve psychological treatment, not state-funded surgery. At the very least, I don't think many people will disagree that we should not promote it as 'normal' when it isn't.
The next example is:
"First of I want to state that I do not in any way agree with or support what this man has done, it's an awful, evil crime. I'll be the first to condemn this guy. But its as I've said elsewhere: This is the result of multiculturalism. And it's not just the far right. As the left what with their open door immigration policy and importing muslims in by the millions is also responsible for this huge increase in far right activity etc. To the left I ask were you truly that naive, that dumb and deranged? Did you honestly think bringing in millions of muslims indefinitely was going to end well?(...) Yes it's unfortunate its come to this. But the powers that be had to know it was going to happen eventually. Islam and The West are like oil and water. They don't mix and will never do so.
This was in a topic about a CSGO player being killed in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christchurch_mosque_shootings - as you can see this poster explicitly distances himself from what the shooter did and condemns it. But considering the anti-Islam content of the shooter's manifesto it is not unreasonable to draw the conclusion that a big motivator for the attack was the result of open door immigration policy. I do not know why it's somehow off-limits to have this discussion, although I do agree it was probably 'Too Soon'(tm). It's not right if there is only one acceptable opinion one can espouse on a subject like this ("gun control gun control gun control alt right Drumpff")
Wow that's the dumbest fucking excuse ever. "Sheeit nigga, society be forcin my family into da projects so das why I be committin deez crimes instead of going to school to get educated n sheeit."
Blaming the situation of African Americans on things like "societal pressures, institutionalized racism, and socioeconomic factors" are just weak excuses to avoid the issue. In fact they're just conspiracy theories.
Blacks are the longest established minority in the US but are among the least successful, whereas asians, despitefacing plenty of their own discrimination in the US in the past, are much more successful, despite not being here as long".
Again, whilst the opening statement is making fun of 'ebonics' and could be considered 'offensive', there is a factual basis for these statements: McWhorter (2000), linguistics professor at University of California at Berkley, feels that the challenges faced by African-American students come not from white society, but are generated from within the black community.
The cults of victimology, seperatism, and anti intellectualism are self-generated barriers to academic succes, even for black studernts at elite prep schools and colleges. McWhorter states, "It is much easier on the soul to return always to racism to explain black underperformance... that black students want to learn but are thwarted from doing so, is not the usual case."
The cult of victimology calls attention to victimization where it barely exists at all. And as McWhorter explains, "... all too often this is not done with a view toward forging solutions, but to foster and nurture an unfocused brand of resentment and sense of alienation from the mainstream."
Instead of engaging in this discussion, the post is just removed.
and this one:
"How many people in the world have been raped and massacred in the name of Islam? That ideology is perfectly allowed on the internet. Should we ban Muslims from using the internet? After all it does turn them into extremists..."
That was not saying "we should ban muslims from using the internet". That comment was drawing attention to the double standard in the censorship in New Zealand.
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on why these comments are removed but the other side of the discussion is not being removed. That makes it seem like there is only one kind of thought allowed on topics such as this.

umm, wow. I'm not even subbed and I want to unsub from that.
frequently in communities that center around the discussion of games.
Pro tip: no, "gamers" aren't some special toxic species. I thought we cracked this code years ago. Seen it on Reddit, seen it on Tumblr, seen it on Facebook (where you aren't even fully anonymous), twitter, OKCupid, BodyBuilding, etc. Name a website with comments and I can make an album just like this in a month. idk why games are always singled out in this.
The only way shit will change is if we go full china and basically tie our internet accounts to our social security number or something. Even then that wouldn't work unless all 1st world countries do it (Nothing stopping that brazilian shitposter afterall).
Oh no, I don't just mean remove anonymity. I mean literally charge people for shit posting. Like, you speak out against the great emporer minorities and you (or your parents) literally go up a tax bracket kinda charging. And ofc it wouldn't be abused at all by the govt. to manage social discourse either. We woke after all.
no, but the ones that hang around on youtube and reddit have a surprisingly high amount of "anti-feminists" and "anti-sjws". The quartering and all those other channels talking about "pandering to audiences" and "muh femoids". Tolerating certain behaviour attracts certain people. It happens in twitch chats and it happens on reddit.
Anyway, those people usually get banned in other subs, but not gaming subs. But gamers really are the most opressed minority. RISE UP
breaking news! the largest websites (coincidentally the hardest ones to moderate as well) have the most raw amount of shitheads. call a scientists!
still think you're being very short sighted about this. Just because you don't browse many communities outside of game focused ones doesn't mean the toxicity doesn't exsist outside of gaming.
This the complete leftist politicization of the sub is complete. I shouldn’t be surprised because this same shit has happened to so many other big non political subs.
But it’s all so fucking tiring. I guess I’ll just fully switch to using v to get video game news. When your subreddit is so bad people would rather use v. That fucking says a lot.
I don't get lefties on this site. It's the same with SRDines and subs like /r/gamingcircejerk. They'll point to some racist comment with 68 downvotes and scream how much this site is infested with alt-righters, incels or whatever the current buzzword is. Why care at that point? Why aren't they just happy that their posts about heterosexual cocksucking, intellectual cuckolding and "acktually europe was always pretty black" get 1000s of updoots?
Totalitarianism isn't satisfied with mere victory over the enemy, or even silencing them. Non-compliant thought cannot be suffered to exist, even if it is not expressed. Every thinking being must be made to conform to the correct lines of opinion - not as a politically-correct facade, but as a genuine heartfelt conversion.
I've long likened it to a religious ideology in that there is original sin, obsession with blasphemy and purity and heretics must be stamped out because they present a threat to the church even if they're met with general ridicule.
/r/GirlGamers seems really happy about this... which only makes me think how someone could subscribe to a subreddit called "GirlGamers" and not feel the utmost amount of shame.
Thirsty for fat, ugly bags that complain about social justice in video games online all day? Probably a smaller percentage than you think. Unless you're counting t-slurs as "thirsty boys."

Reddit absolutely makes me sick with all this self-righteous bs lol... Reddit tries so hard to uphold this image of having high moral values, especially compared to other social medias, that they don’t realize how preachy and disingenuous they sound. There will always be racist or homophobic people on the internet, they’re so in the minority that it’s completely not an issue. That album of what, 60 comments, in which half are probably just trying to get a reaction, compared to tens of thousands of non-discriminatory comments? The whole of Reddit is kind of a safe-space at this point, that’s how much a non issue this is.

This is a travesty! I, for one, do not intend to sit idly by and let this grave injustice take place! To think, a sub of r/games importance shut down on a monday! Where will people go? What will they do?
r/games mods! Hear me now! You DONT mess with GAMERS and get away with it! RISE UP GAMERS! RISE UP AND TAKE BACK WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY OURS!!!
What's so ridiculous about this is /r/games is already a sub that leans HEAVILY progressive. Anyone posting anything like the shit they are complaining about gets downvoted heavily, yet they write shit like this -
At r/Games, our community is becoming increasingly responsible for perpetuating a significant amount of these combative and derogatory schools of thought.
Their community already shuts that shit down, yet here they are acting like there is some plague of nazis that are regularly upvoted on their precious marketing subreddit. I feel like I am in bizarro world.
Keeps being pretty entertaining how so many people fall for this bullshit that is being pushed. Wah wah here's an album of 10 comments that are hateful so the entire community is super hateful. Wah wah no shut up yes they are downvoted but shut up the entire community is like this.
Some of the progressive subs discussing it have said things along the line of "17k up votes great!... Oh, 66% upvoted, we have so far to go". As if the only thing contained within the post was a completely uncontroversial statement everyone should agree with. More "disagreement proves we need X" non sequiturs.
it (the mod) thinks its gonna get some virtual pussy finally after being a virgin for his whole 48 year long life, and all it gets is a shit appreciation thread from /r/girlgamers

This was probably a controversial but brave post
1 gen_0 2019-04-01
nah it's pretty good. sounds like you're just fuckin mad one of them talked shit on some stale ass gif you posted. take that baby shit to r/gaming with the rest of the manchildren in that hugbox
1 POST_BUSSY 2019-04-01
Actually defending r/games 😂😂😂
1 gen_0 2019-04-01
there's nothing wrong with it tbh
it has some fuckin dipshits, but so does every sub, by far including this one
just don't click on all the "this is why fallout 3 is actually the best game of the past few decades" neckbeard take threads
1 POST_BUSSY 2019-04-01
Alright alright I yield. That place is actually super intellectual 😎.
Remember that the next time you see the 'Epic Games Store isn't competition!' circlejerk, even though Valve reduced their cut in response to Epic Games Store launch.
1 gen_0 2019-04-01
irony in subreddits has a lifespan of about 50k subs
1 Onii-chan_dai-suki 2019-04-01
So you think the people here are serious? The only serious people are the ones who came from another sub, saw one post and now think it is a left or rightwing sub, but they get laughed at when they post their first and only seriouspost.
1 DerekSavageCoolCuck 2019-04-01
80% of drama subs are probably drama alts
1 lenovolegion 2019-04-01
Actually playing enough games to know r/games is shit 😂😂😂
1 POST_BUSSY 2019-04-01
You don't have to play many games to know when people are retarded
1 jrolle 2019-04-01
That's fucking everywhere though. Like sure, Ashleigh-Lynn, go ahead and enlighten me about the economic impact of tariffs even though you only passed 12th grade English because you gave the teacher a blowie in his 1996 Geo Metro in the lot out back behind where the cross country kids have fellowship meetings.
1 Evinceo 2019-04-01

1 chowder7116 2019-04-01
B-but they're in the red!!! Reddit we did it 😎
1 TrailerParkBride 2019-04-01
EA is unironically a good buy right now, change my mind.
1 Cole-187 2019-04-01
pretty much sums up every sub with similar rules.
1 letter_of_resignatio 2019-04-01
Did you know that betashda game engine is actually best engine there is.
1 poop_pee_2020 2019-04-01
Even the circle jerk sub is dominated by a bunch of ideological idiots taking themselves very seriously. Though I guess that's how most circle jerk subs end up.
1 zrkillerbush 2019-04-01
r/games in exactly the same as r/gaming, but paragraphs instead of pictures.
You still get misinformation purposely spread all the time, still the same circlejerk comments.
r/games is great for gaming news, not opinions
1 TayloTayloBookito 2019-04-01
Yeah, I’m there for news, usually.
1 nybbas 2019-04-01
On top of /r/games having devolved into /r/games_marketing.
1 246011111 2019-04-01
r/Gaming4Gamers is a nice middleground, a bit low traffic though probably thanks to the awful subreddit name
1 B0NES96 2019-04-01
There's also r/gamernews and r/gamingnews. Less discussion but good if you just want game news.
1 a_cute_grill 2019-04-01
I'm pretty sure i've seen hundreds of users complain about the moderation on that sub over the years, sometimes even in highly upvoted meta posts on the frontpage.
I'm fairly certain that this move by them will be applauded by their community....
1 poop_pee_2020 2019-04-01
Of that I have little doubt. A lot of subs like this moderate and lock threads and ban users so flippantly the only ones left are users that overwhelmingly align with the viewpoint of the mod team. They make their own feedback loops.
1 Y-66R 2019-04-01
i-ro-ny
No but seriously why gamers are so angry?
1 fashionjunker 2019-04-01
They are adults that still have only the hobby of teenagers
1 poop_pee_2020 2019-04-01
It's one of the largest entertainment industries. It's like saying "why are people that watch t.v so angry"? It's meaningless and certain to be wrong.
1 Sabu113 2019-04-01
All their examples are pretty negative or have a bunch of downvotes...
Wouldn't that.... mean those opinions are not popular?
1 nybbas 2019-04-01
The entire community the other day was shitting on notch for the silly stuff he posts on twitter. /r/games leans SUPER far to the left. Their community doesn't tolerate any of the shit that was linked, yet somehow the mods think ...
1 OccasionallyClueless 2019-04-01
I also just disagree with the premise that any person or group (especially a subreddit lmao) has any responsibility to regulate their speech on the internet, just because it MAY make people think things that a specific group of people disagree with.
It’s just self-righteous moralizing.
1 martensai 2019-04-01
Grasping at straws a bit with some of those examples.
1 crim-sama 2019-04-01

1 nybbas 2019-04-01
I want them to show me a fucking example that was heavily upvoted. They link to shit that was deleted instantly, or had a bunch of downvotes before it was deleted.
The entire post is just them shoving a tube up their ass so they can directly inhale their own gas.
1 BoostedBraps 2019-04-01
Yea but THE MODS SAW IT!
1 article10ECHR 2019-04-01
I have to agree. I took some time to go through the examples they put in their locked sticky, to see if there really was no merrit to the posts they removed. Turns out some are not as bad as they are described to be, and others actually raise valid points and in the interest of fairness (since the opposite of those opionions is allowed or even encouraged on /r/Games) should not have been removed:
Seriously which part of that comment do they find offensive? Sonicfox IS an asshole: when he accepted some award it was the most cringe worthy shit I've ever seen and honestly I cannot watch it again: https://youtu.be/1jz0WE5C2Nc?t=549 - he basically starts off by talking about his sexuality and is dressed like a furry. When accepting an award for playing a fighting game. But he cannot be called out for that? Don't allow assholes like Sonicfox to turn something irrelevant like their sexuality into a 'shield'.
That was not saying "we should ban muslims from using the internet". That comment was drawing attention to the double standard in the censorship in New Zealand.
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on why these comments are removed but the other side of the discussion is not being removed. That makes it seem like there is only one kind of thought allowed on topics such as this.

1 raze2012 2019-04-01
umm, wow. I'm not even subbed and I want to unsub from that.
1 DoctorMort 2019-04-01
Imagine thinking this would make a difference. 😂😂😂
Have you ever gone on facebook? The people there are arguably more retarded than on Plebbit, if such a thing is even possible.
1 raze2012 2019-04-01
Oh no, I don't just mean remove anonymity. I mean literally charge people for shit posting. Like, you speak out against
the great emporerminorities and you (or your parents) literally go up a tax bracket kinda charging. And ofc it wouldn't be abused at all by the govt. to manage social discourse either. We woke after all.1 NudelNipple 2019-04-01
no, but the ones that hang around on youtube and reddit have a surprisingly high amount of "anti-feminists" and "anti-sjws". RISE UP
1 raze2012 2019-04-01
breaking news! the largest websites (coincidentally the hardest ones to moderate as well) have the most raw amount of shitheads. call a scientists!
still think you're being very short sighted about this. Just because you don't browse many communities outside of game focused ones doesn't mean the toxicity doesn't exsist outside of gaming.
1 stereomono1 2019-04-01
antiifeminism = the radical notion that men are people as well.

1 Coonass_alt 2019-04-01
This the complete leftist politicization of the sub is complete. I shouldn’t be surprised because this same shit has happened to so many other big non political subs.
But it’s all so fucking tiring. I guess I’ll just fully switch to using v to get video game news. When your subreddit is so bad people would rather use v. That fucking says a lot.
1 WreckingYourHome 2019-04-01
I don't get lefties on this site. It's the same with SRDines and subs like /r/gamingcircejerk. They'll point to some racist comment with 68 downvotes and scream how much this site is infested with alt-righters, incels or whatever the current buzzword is. Why care at that point? Why aren't they just happy that their posts about heterosexual cocksucking, intellectual cuckolding and "acktually europe was always pretty black" get 1000s of updoots?
1 GattsuCascade 2019-04-01
Power is the lord of drugs, it is the opium of mankind. The weak get drunk off it, the strong savour it.
The godliest peasant and the sceptic king are both slaves to their addiction. Power.
1 bG9sIG5pY2UgdHJ5Cg 2019-04-01
Totalitarianism isn't satisfied with mere victory over the enemy, or even silencing them. Non-compliant thought cannot be suffered to exist, even if it is not expressed. Every thinking being must be made to conform to the correct lines of opinion - not as a politically-correct facade, but as a genuine heartfelt conversion.
1 poop_pee_2020 2019-04-01
I've long likened it to a religious ideology in that there is original sin, obsession with blasphemy and purity and heretics must be stamped out because they present a threat to the church even if they're met with general ridicule.

You and I both know the answer to that.

/r/GirlGamers seems really happy about this... which only makes me think how someone could subscribe to a subreddit called "GirlGamers" and not feel the utmost amount of shame.
1 ZsaFreigh 2019-04-01
I wonder how many of the users of /r/GirlGamers are actually just thirsty boys.

Thirsty for fat, ugly bags that complain about social justice in video games online all day? Probably a smaller percentage than you think. Unless you're counting t-slurs as "thirsty boys."

1 I_ama_Borat 2019-04-01
Reddit absolutely makes me sick with all this self-righteous bs lol... Reddit tries so hard to uphold this image of having high moral values, especially compared to other social medias, that they don’t realize how preachy and disingenuous they sound. There will always be racist or homophobic people on the internet, they’re so in the minority that it’s completely not an issue. That album of what, 60 comments, in which half are probably just trying to get a reaction, compared to tens of thousands of non-discriminatory comments? The whole of Reddit is kind of a safe-space at this point, that’s how much a non issue this is.
I’m sorry but I find this shit so, so corny.

I am disgusted that none of my comments were included in the album of wrongthink posted by the mods. I will try to do better.

I'm going to resolve to shitpost even harder in the hopes of earning a place on the 1st April 2020 collage.

Wow.
That's pretty fucking brave.
1 nybbas 2019-04-01
What's so ridiculous about this is /r/games is already a sub that leans HEAVILY progressive. Anyone posting anything like the shit they are complaining about gets downvoted heavily, yet they write shit like this -
Their community already shuts that shit down, yet here they are acting like there is some plague of nazis that are regularly upvoted on their precious marketing subreddit. I feel like I am in bizarro world.

It's clown world, my dude. The end is near.

It's almost like the smaller the problem of bigotry and hate, the more it needs to be discussed in hysterical terms.
1 BoostedBraps 2019-04-01
Keeps being pretty entertaining how so many people fall for this bullshit that is being pushed. Wah wah here's an album of 10 comments that are hateful so the entire community is super hateful. Wah wah no shut up yes they are downvoted but shut up the entire community is like this.
1 poop_pee_2020 2019-04-01
Some of the progressive subs discussing it have said things along the line of "17k up votes great!... Oh, 66% upvoted, we have so far to go". As if the only thing contained within the post was a completely uncontroversial statement everyone should agree with. More "disagreement proves we need X" non sequiturs.

They targeted gamers.

why do mods think so high of themselves
they are literally volunteering to tell gaymers that they can’t behave
1 Cole-187 2019-04-01
it (the mod) thinks its gonna get some virtual pussy finally after being a virgin for his whole 48 year long life, and all it gets is a shit appreciation thread from /r/girlgamers
