I mean, ancient Sparta? Carthage? Most hunter-gatherer societies in history? Infanticide was pretty common in human history.

But in those societies, the child would be born and then abandoned only if it were judged to be too sickly/deformed/ugly to add value to the tribe. Abortion has none of that eugenic control.
