When I played magic years ago I showed up for a tournament at a local gaming store and had to sign in. One of the requirements was to add the LGS as your friend on Facebook to promote the store. I made a big fuss with the owner and my reasoning was that I didn’t want the girl I was dating at the time to know that I had such a pathetic hobby. Literal unwashed neckbeards with titty playmates were staring me down the rest of the tournament and the judges were assholes to me the rest of the night.

I'm a pretty big MTG nerd, and I've always noticed there are like 10% or so of the players at FNM are successful attractive people. They tend to be pretty cool and respectful too. The only real problems are the few Nurgles who REEEE over minor shit, and maybe the relatively attractive girls who got dragged along and are obviously not having fun if she's being a bitch about it. Might be the same with other nerd hobbies, I know board gaming and D&D are similar. Big events like GPs (or mythics now?) Are a different story though, and they are mostly full of your tired, poor, huddled masses, yearning to get laid.
