I’m not denying it doesn’t happen, but to assume all people who wear mascot costumes, or are furries, smoke crack and fuck all day in costume is a massive fallacy.
550 according to the picture and for most of us a plane ticket but that's like what sums of money you pay your butler to worry about? The time off's the bugger, do you know what opportunity cost is, of course not I pay good bribes to make sure you poors don't.
They severely misrepresented the cost. Minimum was $550 for a table. Plates were $100 each, reservations for a table were $150 or $75 for AMEX holders. A table of four could have a 3 course meal from Canada's Top Chef winner Rene Rodriguez for $550. Even people who work minimum wage at McDonald's could enjoy a nice night out for the same price as going to a concert. It's so ridiculous, it's actually sad.

Aww this is so sad. He gets sad when he goes to Toronto :(. Personally I loved working in the financial district, living downtown and making good money for my 12 hour days. Maybe if these chapofags learned some marketable skills they wouldn't lead such depressing lives. My company had all sorts of co-op positions and entry-level jobs for people who wanted a foot in the door, the problek is so many of the kids were lazy and dicked around all day long.
My old boss who was a really brilliant person and a couple of my co-workers all told me that working in government isn't too great if you have a lot of ambition. They all worked in the public sector but left to pursue private. I obviously can't say whether the experience of these older people would apply as much to our generation but they said that people there often just do the bear minimum, and that there's even more office politicking that makes it hard to advance.
I didn't work in finance though I was in the financial sector, and my personal recommendation is that unless you're really passionate about finance or something it can be a lot easier to get into some of the secondary/non-revenue generating functions. Things like risk management, compliance, project management, even some less technical areas within IT. My opinion is that if you feel like you're pretty sharp generally but lack any particular skills at the outset, learning project management can be quite prudent. It's a space where there are a lot of ineffectual boomers, so it's relatively easy to distinguish yourself. It is also a skill that can be applied effectively to almost every other area imo.
I think a really strong strategy would be getting a number of certifications to tack onto a resume, and not just the cert but also really try to understand the space. Risk management and compliance (or GRC broadly) is going to grow a lot in the next few decades in my opinion, so certs in those areas will be hugely beneficial.
I don't know if this advice is particularly coherent but I hope it helps you a bit. I'm not as familiar with how it all goes in Western Canada as I'm actually an American who was just living in Ontario on a series of visas over many years.
I'm currently doing political economy.
I have thought about doing a finance certificate.
I loathe accounting.
Risk management is interesting, but I don't have much of a desire to pursue another major.
Provincial government jobs are a career killer, stay away.
Also lol, Goldman Canada is cucked, especially in a Western shithole like Calgary. If you want to do IB out West stick with a big Canadian bank in oil & gas but good luck getting a job, and you'll be in Toronto anyway.
Are you a finance/business/econ/accounting major? Bite the bullet and look for jobs in Toronto. Federal government jobs can also be good, so look into jobs in Ottawa. The fact of the matter is that if you're a business major Toronto is basically your best shot for a high flying job. Otherwise check out consulting practices in Calgary or Edmonton.
You could also always work in industry. You can get a job anywhere if you're ok with that
I switched from accounting to political economy.
My major is political economy.
I didn't want to cripple myself with just a political science degree.
I'm thinking of getting some experience in government, then using that as a jumping point to private.
Hmm... You can't get into front office banking with that degree. Federal government or consulting is your best bet. If you want to increase your chances get a Masters or learn a data science language like Python or R. Good luck buddy

The workday is actually 7hrs by law in Canada iirc, but when you actually like your job sometimes you choose to do more because it's enjoyable. And then sometimes you do it because you get paid extra for additional hours and better performance reviews, which leads to further success.
Obviously some people hate working period and that's fine, but as long as I find the work stimulating and can learn from it I personally tend to enjoy it. Also once you establish a reputation as a hard worker you can get away with virtually anything when circumstances require it.
Chapocels just make me depressed because they're literally just 20 something commie doomers. Instead of you know gaining marketable skills, which in Ontario for instance, OSAP is extremely generous, they just just fuck around and complain about how life is so unfair. Sad.
No hard worker pays several hundreds dollars for 1 fucking meal. Doctors, civil workers, nurses, builders, farmers. None of them even fucking CAN buy a meal for that price. Are you suggesting they just don't work hard enough?

It's higher in the US though, outside a few low paying specialties that are just slightly lower. Debts are true but not so bad you're gonna go from earning almost $300k a year on average to unable to spend $500 on a night out.

550 is for 4 people. Split it two ways for two couples and you will find a very familiar number (300).
