Not since high school, she thought, after volleyball practice. Lori had always had a weird relationship with the locker room: when she'd joined the team as a freshman she'd feared it, feared the bullying and hazing, having to compare herself to the more physically developed seniors on the team. But as time went on and she developed herself she began to enjoy it more, the camaraderie and girl talk. And she had to admit that she enjoyed seeing her teammates naked, not in a sexual way...well, not totally in a sexual way, but there were other aspects too. Seeing somebody at their most exposed and vulnerable created a bond, a special knowledge of what it was that they hid from the rest of the world.
But this wasn't volleyball practice: it was prison. The girls in this locker room weren't the cheerful daughters of local dentists and car dealers but hardened convicts, women from a side of the tracks that Lori had only heard about in movies, only driven past on her way to or from somewhere nicer. These were rough women, women who hadn't been with a man for years...women with appetites, who would take what they wanted...
Lori trembled as she stepped across the threshold and the first waft of steam and sweat hit her nostrils. But amidst all the fear and trepidation Lori detected another emotion, one that surprised even her: excitement.

Human nature prompts ridicule to those whose affluence springboards their successes. So when this story was revealed, what would have been better would have been a profound "mea culpa" moment from the daughter and the parents. By doing so, it would have turned on the empathy spigot. But what Olivia Jade did was the absolute worst thing to do -- she "blamed" her parents for affording her a lifestyle that most people cannot even imagine. Her continued petulance, therefore, prompted more ridicule. And now that it is being reported that this unqualified dolt was complicit, it really redefines privilege.
I just don't care for people who cheat the system. And they are only able to cheat simply because they have the money to do so. For those of us who were admitted to college and graduate school the proper way, this entire sham is beyond the pale of human decency. For those who don't mind these cheaters, then that is their prerogative.
