I've used bands since I was a teen. I started with the little green bands that I used to hold rolled newspapers together with. I have tried everything from the huge flat bands used on celery stalks, stretched and doubled a dozen times to be super tight ,to elastic hair ties, leather shoelaces, just about anything that can be tightened to cause loss of blood flow. I've never been able to outlast the pain & the bands come off after (at the longest ever) 90 minutes. I did try self surgical castration when I was 25. I got the scrotum open almost 2" with an exacto knife and could see the testicle within the tunic. But I nicked an artery and started bleeding profusely. I went to the ER & told them I had dropped my butcher knife... after surgery to stop the bleeding, 3 days in the hospital & 4 units of blood, I survived. I still play with bands, but haven't used a knife again.
