I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security. At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!

quick summary for all interested:

superhero MMO shuts down. someone stole the source code for the game and hands it to a moderator of a popular City Of heroes MMO subreddit.

Said Mod hides this server from the rest of the world, keeping it in a close circle of people, funded by donations. since he has all the data from the servers, he also has access to all the account information of EVERY PLAYER that made an account during the games run.

After hints and whisperings of a private server, information is finally leaked by a dedicated player who had enough. he details most of the information, and the owner of the private server all but confirms most of it, while also threatening a ban spree on all accounts ever involved with the dedicated player.

This server owner/mod has also tried to shoot down any attempts at a proper private server by saying "it's impossible" while displaying a neutered version of the private server as a sign to "give up, this is all that is possible"

unconfirmed rumors also state that several kickstarter projects dedicated to "fanmade" recreations of the game were instead shell projects to fund development of the private server

Mods power tripping? Who would have thought!

You forgot the best part.

If you had a legit account with CoH while it was running, you could log into this private server with the exact same user and password and your character would still be there.

That means this man has the account database, which most likely wasn't officially given to him by NC Soft.

That's a felony with a possible 10+ years in pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

They do this free.

Well, if he has everything that people THINK he has, then he could be up for a lot of jail time or huge fines.

And yet, the sperglords throwing a fit about this are doing it solely because they believe he won't share just to be a dick.

Yup, that's it. Definitely not because he was rather (poorly) trying to stay under the radar so as to not end up in jail.

I was waiting for someone else to post this drama.

β€œAt least for me, playing the game and not being able to share the game, was not fun,” Destroyer Stroyer says, explaining why he chose to break his NDA to expose the server. In both the now-deleted original video and the second upload (shown above), he accuses various members and groups across the internet, most specifically the City of Heroes subreddit, of working in tandem to keep a lid on news about the server, and he alleges that the secret server has a database backup of the live game, including what he implies is account and character information. A second leaker additionally accused Paragon Chat of being a β€œsmokescreen” for the real emu.

So...he's so upset at the fact that not everyone gets to play the game like he gets to for obvious copyright and legal reasons, so he does the only thing he can think of, which is to publicly expose it and get it shut down so NOBODY can play. How fucking retarded can you get? What else can you expect from a gaymer, let alone one that plays MMO's?

Well the ideal option would have been for the Source code leak to have been released anonymously over the net rather than having some moderator sperglord use it as a way to feel important

If that happened the code would probably have to have a shit ton of data removed, mainly accounts. There would be thousands of people vulnerable with passwords being public. But yeah it should have been released publicly in some way.

There's no motivation for the guy who has the source code to do that however because if this is stolen property, he'd then be up for additional crimes if he distributed it.

Imagine that he has a stolen copy of their code and their customer database (in some form). He's already looking at a couple of felonies there. Now, what if he was to distribute that as well?

There's no "oops I didn't mean to" when it comes to distributing stolen data. He could be looking at 30 years in prison for all the charges.

The funniest thing to me is watching the spergs fail to understand that maybe the reason why this was kept so on the DL was because the people responsible could be facing serious jail time. No, they think it's all because someone wanted to keep it from them to feel superior (while simultaneously hiding it from them so that they don't know about it).

Source codes have been leaked before anonymously without repercussions, both World of Warcraft and Star Wars Galaxies had their source code released on the internet from what I've read

Keeping it within your small circle will actually now make it infinitely more possible to prosecute these people now that the cat is out of the bag

How fucking retarded can you get?

I mean, we're talking about a loser playing a dead capeshit mmo that only a secret group of die-hard supporters are playing after all.

Always glad to get notification of my personal information being leaked from /r/Drama

City Of Heroes / City Of Villians was the shit.

Idk that guy sounds kinda retarded since now the secret server will probably be shut down now that it's exposed. He seems upset about the fact that not everyone can play and now nobody will play.

He's really stupid.

NCSoft now have the means to tear this guys bussy up in court because some fat idiot had to go and blab.

So now these dedicated turbonerds will have nowhere to play their game because some mouth-breather thinks its unfair to keep an illegal server under the radar.
