I hope that this is the end. r/Drama has a unique way of bringing out the worst in people. It really does, I think. The dynamic here is just so fucking toxic and it turns people into the worst possible people they can be.
Drama is an addiction. It should be classified as something more like heroine or meth than a game.
The legacy of Drama has been written large in blood, quite literally. Several Drama posters have committed mayocide, and this place enabled their downward spirals. u/DarqWolff's insanity was made far worse by this place. I've come to the conclusion that the internet, as a social platform, was a mistake.
It radicalizes people by isolating them with other people just like them and so they spiral into the worst versions of themselves. Drama made me a worse person, and it's made most of you worse people. It's been the breeding ground of pedophile groomers, alt-right killers, and suicidal narcissists. This place is a total fucking shithole and I spent three years of my life that I'll never get back immersed in it. It was a total waste and I'm going to regret this period of my life for the rest of my existence as will most of you.
Even the most moral people have been made worse for being here. I think that the fundamental issue with Drama is that due to the way reputations work, betrayal, secret cabals, two-faced bs, and bad faith negotiation isn't just prioritized, it's the only effective way to operate. Being a huge piece of shit to everybody around you and tearing them down like crabs in a bucket isn't just a viable strategy, it's actually the only viable strategy once Drama reached a certain size. It's all just a bunch of assholes circlejerking over how bad all the other assholes are, because it's impossible to do anything else short of outright genociding anybody who poses any sort of threat to Drama's security and dominance.
Overall, there’s nothing inherently gendered about liking a light-hearted film with a strong female lead and emotional arc. So next time you call something a "chick flick," you better be referring to Chicken Run.
You're looking at it the wrong way. Before the last couple years, Social Media Specialist/Manager/Consultant/whatever was the most obnoxiously easy yet still high paying title du jour. Now their job is a fucking minefield and I love it.
is it a minefield or is it learning how to make and lay mines? Seems like a pure failure on this is handled by reminding people that smelly boys don't like it when girls succeed in their hobby.
Yeah this exactly. I took a film elective this semester at my Uni, and every damn lesson has me rolling my eyes. I just wanted to learn about film technique, not gross over-analysis of the color of a rug in some movie I've never heard of. The class is even called Film Tech 101 but nah, we gonna debate about the color red in Rebel Without A Cause instead of learning editing techniques or anything else I wanted to know.
"You don't like one elective class at your university so drop it and go to trade school instead?" What? It's an elective, I'm not a film major, but its still learning. Nothing wrong with trade school but damn that is shitty advice.
you don't have to drop anything my friend. i was simply explaining to you why your film class is balls instead of useful; the reason is that they reserve useful knowledge for trade schools.
Ok but even that is not really true. This class is only uninteresting to me because it was advertised as "Film Tech" and it was actually film analysis. Film tech classes exist here (and are supposedly awesome, rip), and this class was just poorly named. There are a lot of people nowadays that are "fuck college, go to trade school" types, so I just want to make it perfectly clear that college is useful, is a great place to learn, and even though college is great, trade schools are too. Its just a personal needs thing. I want to learn software engineer, so Uni is best for me.
So in other words, no, 'useful knowledge' is not reserved for trade schools, there is just a different philosophy in education between university and trade schools, and which one is 'better' depends on the person.
i'm not trying to convince you of anything my friend. i was explaining something to you that seems to have made you very angry. i apologize for hurting your feelings, i hope you have a good day.
You aren't explaining something, you are giving your opinion, and I think its a bad opinion. Was I not nice about it? Because now I'm confused. At the most, I'm mildly annoyed, not sure how that equates to triggered. I hope you don't interact with everyone like this, because it is really not endearing at all.
Mean Girls also made good fun of its targets and zeroed in on how shitty women can act, which is Literally Violence to point out in [current year]. If that movie were made today they would need to somehow pin it all on a dude to make it pass muster.
All female cast except (potential) love interests, of course. I'd say Bridget Jones's Diary is a chick flick, even though 2 out of 3 main characters are male.
I was making a joke about "fml", which is both an abbreviation for "fuck my life" that you used and for fielded buffers used by a certain Oracle framework that I linked to (and working with which might evoke the "fml" in the former sense too). Hope this helps!
Imagine basing your entire ENTERPRISE SOFTWARE SUITE on that technology, even before BEA was bought by Oracle, and giving them a hefty part of what you charge your clients 🤣😂😭
To be fair, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuxedo_(software) is also an application server that existed for decades before Websphere and the like were a twinkle in their many fathers' eyes. But FML indeed.
Netflix originals are just more evidence that millennials reading one book series only makes them retarded and can’t write anything but sex scenes cause they spend their lonely lives on porn sites.
For example: I watched the Silence(?) last night and it was basically a SyFy channel original with better camera work. As soon as I saw the guy watching them near a church I knew that it was gonna be the “these zealots are going to cause trouble for our hero’s and want them to join their movement!” And I was right cause they do it in close to every show they have on there. So much so that it’s kind of boring.
On the other side with Sex Ed that series is hilarious because they push those themes and they come out as a parody. Like the interracial lesbian couple who don’t know how to have sex so it’s just one dry humping the others leg and boob, or the jock you know is gay sucking off the Ugandan tranny.
Are we talking about movies and tv series or just movies? Some of their movies are off but a lot of their tv series are good. I haven’t watched enough sex Ed to know if Ill like it but recently osmosis is good, Sabrina is good, OA got interesting, umbrella academy was strange but alright. Pretty sure black mirror is what kicked new twilight zone to happen even though black mirror is more well tone. They produce a bunch of good stuff
Both. I think the series have less of it but I feel like most of them fall off because they don’t know how to end the series. Idk just my opinion on them.
I was going to actually say black mirror is really good but it’s partly immune to that.
Most the good Netflix series are based off of books and begin to truly suck when they run out of source material. Examples: Altered Carbon, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, etc
The Martha Stewart arc was the last of the stuff that was in both the books and show, IIRC. It's also when OitNB started to really, really stink very badly
Shit, I might be misremembering some things chronologically then, because the huge influx of hamfisted woke-twitter political commentary is what I mean when I talk about the writers of that show fucking it up--out of nowhere you have prison inmates talking about white privilege and then a few episodes later the prison becomes a literal BLM rally and pretty much every white man on the show becomes a cartoon villain without a hint of irony.
My favorite is when one of the new guards, Lee Dixon (GET IT, HE'S FROM THE SOUTH) casually admits to committing grievous war crimes that would get a normal person put to death with the tone of "aw shucks, who hasn't done that?"
Why does Netflix even bother with movies? HBO tried this in the 90's and it just doesn't work. Subscriptions are good for reliable series, not the off chance that you might like a film that they make every few months.
That doesn't make any sense. No one paid a premium to see Bird Box, so who cares how many millions of people saw it? Other than the base Netflix subscription, 45 million * $0 dollars is still $0 dollars, compared to 15 million tickets * I dunno, 5 or 10 bucks gross?
I'd say this is closer to a major network (free to air) television having 45 million people watch a made for tv movie, except it's not, since it's worse - netflix doesn't sell advertising in the middle of it's movie.
Wall Street analysts zero in on subscriber engagement and growth. That led to the positive stock implication. i.e. Netflix makes movies people want to watch = more people paying for subscriptions. Also, more people tell friends about a movie = more people engaging with the platform.
The point I was trying to convey is that making a successful (I'm talking strictly in terms of viewership not quality) costs a lot of money and Netflix's debt is already junk. Now that it has more competition, at a lower cost from Disney for example, this is only going to become a bigger issue as it fills out its catalog with sufficiently entertaining original content to compete.
Not every movie can be a hit, but every movie they make costs a lot of money. If it loses all of its old show backlog as companies like CBS, Disney, etc. create their own offerings, it needs to make more consistent hits and have a higher "batting average". That's a very risky buying thesis in the long term, even if the market might give you some short term pops on the home runs. Hope that makes sense.

P.S. I have no idea if this is an appropriate forum to lay this stock thesis out at all, but just some thoughts.
You are right. It isn't relevant. It sounds more like netflix is justifying its debt somehow to the NFLX bag holders with these eye popping numbers.
This is the problem with many of these big name companies. (uber, netflix, etc)Instead of creating a sustainable business model, they are basically fighting to corner the market share in any desperate way they can and hopefully in future, when they "win" this competitive rate race to the bottom, raise the prices.
I subscribed to watch old tv shows so I wouldn't have to sit through the propaganda that is on "real" tv nowadays. Now I cant even watch lost. Once I see how bad they fuck up stranger things season 3, Im out.
People actually paid a subscription for that garbage movie? Damn, if I wasn't leeching off of my friends, I would have never bothered. The only thing to come from it were shit memes on Facebook and Reddit.
Honestly, I think we had sort of a golden zone for a while a few years back.
It was only Netflix and no one else, cable still dominated so the studios handed out licenses like confetti. Netflix was still a small fry so they'd better bloody make sure their productions were decent.
Now every piece of shit broadcast TV studio is putting out a streaming service and the market is fragmenting, movies and shows are being pulled from Netflix en masse and in response Netflix is replacing quality with quantity.
This is one thing that reddit has unironically been right about for years. Soon online streaming content will just be cable 2.0, where you buy subscription services in bundles. This is already happening with services like VRV
What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become a reddit moderator!), but if I were a MAGAtard, I would FIX the sea, add some additional salt, & REBRAND the water with a new name. No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?
From that time period. Save the last dance was another good chick flick with Julia stiles. And while not exactly a chick flick 13 with Evan rachel woods who’s always awesome was pretty great.
Isn't Chick Flick just some filler movie that is generally appreciate by women? There are also dumb movies that are generally appreciated by men, too. What's wrong with those designations?
Did it ever occur to anyone else how much time we spend in 2019, debating shit based on our genitals and what we choose to do with them? This is fucking dumb.

Chick flicks are mostly defined by their target audience; bad comedies featuring an all female cast for groups of women in their 20s and 30s.

I'd say this is closer to a major network (free to air) television having 45 million people watch a made for tv movie, except it's not, since it's worse - netflix doesn't sell advertising in the middle of it's movie.
1 AnnoysTheGoys 2019-04-16
It entices non-subscribers to start a free trial and free trial subscribers to convert to paid subscribers.
1 VidiotGamer 2019-04-16
Yeah, I understand how exclusive content works, it's the same for HBO and Showtime, Disney, etc.
I just don't get how/why the article starts off comparing Bird Box views to movie ticket sales, as it's completely irrelevant.

Welcome to the world of business journalism
1 kevincurranRM 2019-04-16
Thanks for reading my article!

1 VidiotGamer 2019-04-16
At this point I think only retards don't think the bottom is going to fall out of uber eventually.
1 uniqueguy263 2019-04-16
People subscribe to Netflix so they can see stuff like Bird Box
1 KingWayneX 2019-04-16
I subscribed to watch old tv shows so I wouldn't have to sit through the propaganda that is on "real" tv nowadays. Now I cant even watch lost. Once I see how bad they fuck up stranger things season 3, Im out.
1 uniqueguy263 2019-04-16
Get Hulu. Literally all the shows I used to watch went there
1 Send_RWBY_Pictures 2019-04-16
People actually paid a subscription for that garbage movie? Damn, if I wasn't leeching off of my friends, I would have never bothered. The only thing to come from it were shit memes on Facebook and Reddit.
1 Van-Diemen 2019-04-16
Bird Box was such a painfully mediocre flick, I was genuinely gob-smacked by its popularity.
1 darth_tiffany 2019-04-16
They have so much money at the moment and such a massive market share they can basically do whatever they feel like.
Hopefully the debut of the Disney service will motivate them to stop fucking around.
1 Van-Diemen 2019-04-16
Honestly, I think we had sort of a golden zone for a while a few years back.
It was only Netflix and no one else, cable still dominated so the studios handed out licenses like confetti. Netflix was still a small fry so they'd better bloody make sure their productions were decent.
Now every piece of shit broadcast TV studio is putting out a streaming service and the market is fragmenting, movies and shows are being pulled from Netflix en masse and in response Netflix is replacing quality with quantity.
1 Milky_Stevens 2019-04-16

I thought RomCom and Chick Flicks are different?
Isn't Chick Flick just some filler movie that is generally appreciate by women? There are also dumb movies that are generally appreciated by men, too. What's wrong with those designations?
1 IHeartCommyMommy 2019-04-16
Chick flicks are for girls what The Expendables is for guys.
