Some people are on the more ambivalent sides of the bimodal biological sex bellcurve, and some people falsely pretend that other people pretend that social mores are always biologically linked.
Ergo: Science is bad, sex don't real, it's all gender, gender is all socially deterministic, and if you science man shut up.
anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didnât he danced his did.
Women and men(both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isnât they reaped their same
sun moon stars rain
children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
autumn winter spring summer)
that noone loved him more by more
when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief
bird by snow and stir by still
anyoneâs any was all to her
someones married their everyones
laughed their cryings and did their dance
(sleep wake hope and then)they
said their nevers they slept their dream
stars rain sun moon
(and only the snow can begin to explain
how children are apt to forget to remember
with up so floating many bells down)
one day anyone died i guess
(and noone stooped to kiss his face)
busy folk buried them side by side
little by little and was by was
all by all and deep by deep
and more by more they dream their sleep
noone and anyone earth by april
wish by spirit and if by yes.
Women and men(both dong and ding)
summer autumn winter spring
reaped their sowing and went their came
sun moon stars rain
The Wikipedia article on gender as a social construct gives a good run-down of the thinking. As well as a primer social constructionism. (Basically, facts are subjective and the only thing that matters is language and power, power, power)
After you get through that, here's some brain bleach explaining why it's mental
The only way anyone could possibly believe that "masculine" and "feminine" behaviors are determined by biology rather than society is if they were somehow unaware that those behaviors are different in different societies.
"masculine" and "feminine" behaviors are determined by biology rather than society
It's both, you walnut. Gendered behavior follows from the biological nature of the sexes they're attached to. That does not mean gender roles are determined by biology, just that they're influenced by it. And there's more commonalities between gender roles between societies than differences: (male disposability and adventerousness is a near constant)
Biology acts on society, society acts on biology through sexual selection
Sure, but if someone with a penis says they identify as a woman, I think the best response is "cool." It's really not difficult to use different pronouns for someone if they ask. Refusing to do things like that is just dying on the wrong hill. Imagine if someone was a man and referred to themselves as a man but also had long hair and a soft face and you accidentally called them "she." If they corrected you, you'd be like "oh shit, my bad." If you refuse to do that for someone whose biological gender doesn't match their preferred identity, you're really just fixating on what's in their pants to a creepy degree.
Biology might influence gender norms in general, but there are individuals who feel most comfortable not only exhibiting some behaviors of the gender that doesn't match their sex, but rather identifying as and being treated as that gender. I'm chill with that, and I think any decent person would be chill with that. I don't understand why anyone would make a fuss about that other than to draw attention to themselves.
Guys with long hair and soft faces do often get called âsheâ, mostly as a joke.
My response to trans people has always been to play along with their shtick. If they ask me to call them âsheâ or âheâ, Iâll do it, but really only out of politeness and unwillingness to get in a row over trans identity with some stranger. In my personal thoughts, they are categorically different than the biological sex they are imitating.
Itâs not hard to understand. The idea is that most of the behaviors we consider to be âmasculineâ are really just widespread beliefs we all learned as children. Itâs just part of culture, and the specific behaviors vary across different cultures. So while having a penis = genetically male, the other stuff that we call âbeing a boyâ is largely determined by upbringing rather than genetics.
When someone deviates from that, most people react poorly because theyâre deviating from a sacred social norm. Itâs getting a little better in some countries. Someone who is obviously male but acting like a woman and wearing feminine clothes probably isnât even enough to get a second glance in a major American city. If that kind of person says they identify as a woman, theyâre not denying the fact that they have a penis. Theyâre simply making a statement about the set of behaviors they feel most comfortable with. Theyâre saying that the concept of a woman is more than just âhuman with vaginaâ because people have lots and lots of shared beliefs about how women act and dress and speak, etc.
If you get torn up about how they describe that, youâre really just getting torn up about the semantics. The only important point is that social behavior is not bound by genitals. If you agree with that, you agree with them on everything important and you just donât like the words theyâre using. Itâs a little boring to get bent out of shape about the words someone uses because language is also a shared construct that changes according to what people want to use it for.
Basically those people consider masculinity (and feminity) as a social construct. Now, in most part they are right. There is nothing in having a penis that make one not able to cry for exemple, there is nothing in having a gussy () that push one toward high heels and makeup, ...
In short social gender norms are not something real, innate, but instead something cultural, a social construct therefore. As thus anyone can adhere to the opposite sex gender norm, which would make one culturally speaking a woman/man.
Yeah, wtf. It wasn't that long ago that we had an article posted here about how dismissing astrology as woo bullshit is actually a display of unwoke toxic masculinity.
The fact this gets likes with people in the replies saying the donât respect people who say science is fact is proof that thereâs something in the burgerland drinking water. Proof that if the flat earthers dressed up their delusions as a woke race conspiracy people wouldnât question it
But men are generally bigger and stronger than women đ also if gender doesnât matter and we are assigned it by society how can a person be trans? How can you want to be the other gender if gender doesnât exist?
I showed this to my toddler and he said "but how can genders be real if our eyes aren't real?" Everyone in the supermarket started clapping and handing us $100% bills.

What is the point of twitter blocking you from viewing tweets if your account is blocked? You can just log out and see them.
