A lot of people use reddit just to talk about games/movies/etc. they like and most of those subs are literally run the companies who make the product. I don't see reddit going the way of digg.

A lot of people resent that though too, I've seen some big shakeups when a sub realized it's being ran by someone with direct ties to the corporation. On average yes I think most people barely care and rely on the ease of use with Reddit, but expect a good portion to leave when they realize all of their criticisms are handled by the people they criticize. I doubt reddit dies, but I think it will eventually get replaced.

I have seen it the other way arround aswell. Arround 20% of r/vive userbase (arround 80% of their active userbase) left the sub when they found out the janitors were not allowing game creators into the sub.

I hate it but so many companies are doing it because it's a lot easier than setting up your own forums. You even get some saps who will moderate it for free, just send them some swag every now and then to make them feel special.
