Try 4 years before that. It started in 2011 when Reddit got attention from Anderson Cooper. Jailbait had a lot of defenders, many saw that hive of scum and degeneracy a bulwark against the banning any of the rest of Reddit (policy at the time was all legal content was fine no matter how disgusting to normies), and you had the typical galaxy brain TMoR smug brigade mocking the slippery slope as a fAlLacy (along with normal people who didnโt care about the principle, they just wanted those damn degenerates off Reddit).
And yet here we are, with relatively tame but edgy subreddits like CA getting nuked and even Drama is taking a lot of heat (one of my posts about mayocide earned me a 3 day IP ban).

CA was tame AF in comparison. Definitely. That was the original idea for a few of us that were with CA from the start, though apparently Deathwave wanted /pol/ on Reddit. He was a smart guy. Stubborn, but smart. He wouldn't be pragmatic about it when we warned him a long time ago that the ban was going to happen. Especially after MDE was banned, then the quarantine.
I actually learned a lot modding CA. Free speech obviously isn't going to function in an anonymous echo chamber like it has historically in Western Civ. That's the concept of free speech that many of us know and love, but we are in new territory with social media, and you ain't George Washington crossing the Delaware for protecting the right of edgelords to anonymously say the N word on reddit.

Like you, I've heard "gab" and "minds" a million times from different YouTube creators. I never took the initiative to make an account on either until now.
Gab account creation is super easy - pick a name and the email isnt checked for verification. Then BAM you're there, no learning curve, shitposting on a simple, free speech twitter clone with a bunch of likeminded folks.
I'm not asking you to follow an opinion blog - it's a rallying point and a way for us to give you important updates about the community in the event we get banned. I hope their CEO will appreciate the advertisement and give us the power to create a group. Not gonna lie, that would be pretty cool. It's not a huge website, and we have a chance to be a real presence there.
Regardless of whether you follow us, you'll probably like the culture of that site. Follow various "meme" and "free speech" groups and you will immediately feel at home.
A follow-up to our exchange with the admins
To be fair, I think some of the admins know our efforts to enforce the website rules are genuine. I hope they understand that finding and vetting good mods takes more than two days, as we learned the hard way. We don't want ideologues who spend more time enforcing a political agenda than the actual rules, and then quietly work against our interests. These people have already been removed. Do not, under any circumstances, post about them or harass them privately. This will be met with an immediate and permanent ban.
We have hired some promising new mods, who are politically moderate and recognize the importance of enforcing site rules. We hope they make the cut, and that I will have some reliable folks who can serve as a second in command when I'm not active.
I also hope the admins understand that this recent drama has caused a shitstorm, which is harder than usual to control. Many chronic rule-breakers have already been banned, and we have already greatly improved the speed of our moderation. That being said, it's not perfect. If we are to survive as a subreddit, we can't be perceived as having a culture that encourages rule breaking, especially while we are being held under far more scrutiny than some other communities.
In addition to the website rules, I would like to remind you of an existing CringeAnarchy rule - DO NOT target individual users. I don't care what orientation any users or reddit powermods are, dont harass them or do anything retarded like that. In addition to blocking out personal info in your posts, which has always been a rule, block out reddit usernames as well. Don't encourage suicide or voice your hope that people will die. Don't encourage others to break rules.
Many people suspect the admins wanted to ban us from the start, but under the pretence of being fair and "giving us a chance". I hope they are only drudging up the obscure comments as an instructive warning, and rest assured we are acting upon it. Another important takeaway - don't post any memes glorifying violence, even if they are ironic. They will be taken literally.
Again, I hope for the best. The admins have the ability to ban us with their justification, but also the opportunity to give us a genuine chance at improvement with a more realistic timeframe. That choice is theirs. We'll see.

I'm a big-time free speech advocate, politically moderate in terms of values but aware of many statistics. I'll miss this place more than anyone. My message to you is simple. If you hate the social justice ideologues and progressive bigots - if you want to spite those who seek to destroy your happiness, there is something you can do.
Live a good life.
The best thing you can do is lead by example. So eat right, stay in shape and act honorably in daily life. People are waking up to the anomic misery that's caused by a lack of culture and discipline. If you're reasonably intelligent and have strong principles, it will garner respect from even your enemies.
Look, you don't have to be some great leader in your community to live a happy life. Just have a solid network of friends that you can count on. Go to various clubs that align with your interests, not necessarily political ones. You'd be surprised how many like-minded people you can meet while volunteering for stuff that you believe in. Get to know your neighbors if possible.
How is any of this relevant? Simple. Many of the radical ideologues that want to destroy us have no life. Heck, there's a reason why we can "live and let live", while they froth at the mouth with impotent rage at our very existence. If they lose power in their little enclaves (or if said enclaves fall out of relevance), all they have is left is self hatred. We can do better. Don't ever succumb to hate.
I invite you to hang out on gab, but that's always secondary. The cheap validation of social media likes is not a substitute for the love of real people and communities. Internet friends are not a replacement for the meaningful relationships in your life.

Youtube has started to become an extremely bad source for history as well.. Books really are the last Bastion of accuracy in these subjects, and it's sad. There are some obscure sites where you can find books and accurate documentaries, but most people Wiki + YT = Echochamber and a skewed worldview. I collect historical artifacts, books, etc. I specialize in preservation of WWII artifacts of all sorts.
Not to say that "I know moar har har" - I'm just saying that I don't think the current administration is comparable to Hitler, lol. I'd say it's more comparable to the Decossackization of the Russian frontier by the Soviets/Bolsheviks with impending Balkanization of the US by corporate monopolies.. Yes, ethnic cleansing of Cossacks and ex com block outsiders basically - but this is not even happening today in USA and nothing even comparable. People are more hateful mostly on the internet.. Sprinkle some hyperinflation on top or something similar and we may have some real problems. But right now I think Capitalism is working fine - it's the unchecked monopolies that need to be stopped so we can fix our system. I didn't really see anything that bad on CA. I guess my point is that people are pouring out their anger online when it should be at the people that you're not allowed to judge IRL or online. It's the divide and conquer plan. Like you, I've heard "gab" and "minds" a million times from different YouTube creators. I never took the initiative to make an account on either until now.
Gab account creation is super easy - pick a name and the email isnt checked for verification. Then BAM you're there, no learning curve, shitposting on a simple, free speech twitter clone with a bunch of likeminded folks.
I'm not asking you to follow an opinion blog - it's a rallying point and a way for us to give you important updates about the community in the event we get banned. I hope their CEO will appreciate the advertisement and give us the power to create a group. Not gonna lie, that would be pretty cool. It's not a huge website, and we have a chance to be a real presence there.
Regardless of whether you follow us, you'll probably like the culture of that site. Follow various "meme" and "free speech" groups and you will immediately feel at home.
A follow-up to our exchange with the admins
To be fair, I think some of the admins know our efforts to enforce the website rules are genuine. I hope they understand that finding and vetting good mods takes more than two days, as we learned the hard way. We don't want ideologues who spend more time enforcing a political agenda than the actual rules, and then quietly work against our interests. These people have already been removed. Do not, under any circumstances, post about them or harass them privately. This will be met with an immediate and permanent ban.
We have hired some promising new mods, who are politically moderate and recognize the importance of enforcing site rules. We hope they make the cut, and that I will have some reliable folks who can serve as a second in command when I'm not active.
I also hope the admins understand that this recent drama has caused a shitstorm, which is harder than usual to control. Many chronic rule-breakers have already been banned, and we have already greatly improved the speed of our moderation. That being said, it's not perfect. If we are to survive as a subreddit, we can't be perceived as having a culture that encourages rule breaking, especially while we are being held under far more scrutiny than some other communities.
In addition to the website rules, I would like to remind you of an existing CringeAnarchy rule - DO NOT target individual users. I don't care what orientation any users or reddit powermods are, dont harass them or do anything retarded like that. In addition to blocking out personal info in your posts, which has always been a rule, block out reddit usernames as well. Don't encourage suicide or voice your hope that people will die. Don't encourage others to break rules.
Many people suspect the admins wanted to ban us from the start, but under the pretence of being fair and "giving us a chance". I hope they are only drudging up the obscure comments as an instructive warning, and rest assured we are acting upon it. Another important takeaway - don't post any memes glorifying violence, even if they are ironic. They will be taken literally.
Again, I hope for the best. The admins have the ability to ban us with their justification, but also the opportunity to give us a genuine chance at improvement with a more realistic timeframe. That choice is theirs. We'll see.
Finally, a message for you.
In the words of Richard Nixon, those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.
I'm a big-time free speech advocate, politically moderate in terms of values but aware of many statistics. I'll miss this place more than anyone. My message to you is simple. If you hate the social justice ideologues and progressive bigots - if you want to spite those who seek to destroy your happiness, there is something you can do.
Live a good life.
The best thing you can do is lead by example. So eat right, stay in shape and act honorably in daily life. People are waking up to the anomic misery that's caused by a lack of culture and discipline. If you're reasonably intelligent and have strong principles, it will garner respect from even your enemies.
Look, you don't have to be some great leader in your community to live a happy life. Just have a solid network of friends that you can count on. Go to various clubs that align with your interests, not necessarily political ones. You'd be surprised how many like-minded people you can meet while volunteering for stuff that you believe in. Get to know your neighbors if possible.
How is any of this relevant? Simple. Many of the radical ideologues that want to destroy us have no life. Heck, there's a reason why we can "live and let live", while they froth at the mouth with impotent rage at our very existence. If they lose power in their little enclaves (or if said enclaves fall out of relevance), all they have is left is self hatred. We can do better. Don't ever succumb to hate.
I invite you to hang out on gab, but that's always secondary. The cheap validation of social media likes is not a substitute for the love of real people and communities. Internet friends are not a replacement for the meaningful relationships in your life.
