I am German myself.

The whole world somehow projects their local politics on Germany. I guess because the history of Germany in the last ~100 years is kinda poetic (it is the classic normal guy becomes a super villain story, and when the good guys get him, he somehow changes and redeems himself), so you can easily use it as a symbol for whatever you want.

Nothing the German government does is guided by white guilt. This is an American concept.

WWII is important for Germans. But it is more like "We learned in our history that wasting money on a military is kinda pointless. We won't conquer Russia and China anyways, and Russia and China would be insane to attack us even without us having a giant army. And fucking up countries like Afghanistan and Libya does not even help us. But well, let's have an army that can at least do this so the Americans are happy.". It is not like Germans think "Fuck, we are white. We should not have an expensive army!".

And this is what the German government actually communicates to German voters. But other European nations have a say, too, and are not that keen to the idea that all of Europe becomes like Germany.

Somehow they see that Germany is doing well, but at the same time they think they have to show the world that they can do well, too, even if they have corruption, a nanny government that warns them about trannies and a national pride basically based on being almost the same race as the Germans.

The Polish government is the most pathetic. They collect most of the gibs and act all Poland stronk. The thing is that Germans simply see Poland as their poor neighbor, not as a rival. And the Polish government acts like there is a cultural war between Germany and Poland. Germans don't care. This is a very one sided relationship. This sums up pretty well how Germans feel about Poland: https://imgur.com/gallery/pez9ASl (it should be Poland, not Portugal or Spain or Greece, because Poland is actually by far the biggest gibs nation of Europe). Thing is, Germans are actually okay with giving gibs to Poland, because at least Poland is now fully a 1st world country, still at lot poorer than Germany, but nothing like 15 years ago. It is just pathetic how the Polish government even implies that there is a fight. If there was a fight, Germany could ruin Poland by stop giving gibs. And I think Poland knows this. They just don't want Germany to say this. Point is, Germany has to lead Europe by letting other European nations think it was their idea.

Europe became the dominating world power not by stalling the decline and crying about the past, but by actually being the top of the world. ...well, now that I think about it: Europe talked about how Europe is lost and on decline since the Greek philosophers. So maybe this is the way after all. Just cry and complain a lot, and eventually the rest of the world will fuck up even more and somehow Europe will end up on top of the crowd again.

My country is too dumb to take gibs, we have like 90% failure of accessing the meagre EU funds that are available anyway. And srsly, do I need to offer numbers because I don’t feel like it. Take my word for it, my country receives about 3.5 billion per year from EU which is absolutely nothing. Literally nothing.

A few points:

first, the biggest culprit of complaining about the EU while taking all the gibs while also lecturing other countries how to proper manage a country is Poland.
3,5 billion is not much for the EU indeed. However for Rumania, this is 7% of the entire state budget (which is ~50 billion per year). This is a fucking lot for every country. Romania currently has a deficit of about 2,5%, which is actually quite good. Without those 3,5 billion, the deficit would instantly be 9,5%, which would be crippling for every country in the world.
I am not complaining about Romania. Not even Eastern Europe in general. I am complaining about this "France (or Germany or whatever) is ruining Europe" attitude in countries which clearly don't do better.
