Okay, so first of all, you've just made a reply to me that is in two unrelated parts. The first is unrelated to anything I said. As long as you comport yourself in this manner, you will only be met with derision. It is a nonsense method of communication.
Iβm guessing itβs people not realizing how much water it takes to put it out. I remember a few times camping where a whole container of water would seemingly put out a fire only to see it burning again when I had to piss in the middle of the night.
Thanks Steve, I'm headed out to the woods today with a friend to camp near a little creek. I'll take your advice and soak all our firewood for a few minutes in the babbling brook and come back in a couple days to let you know just how warm it kept us.
When oak (or wood) burns, the char forms on the surface and blocks fire reaching inner wood, unless there is intense heat in the surroundings.
Oak oil can help forming of char quickly, preventing fire getting inside of the oak tree. The oil itself could extinguish the fire as it oozing out at fast rate.
When the oak wood gets very old, it is very dry in terms of oil. Depends on its thickness, and surrounding air temperature and the temperature in the oak wood, it determines how fire affects it. That means intense heat is needed to keep the char burning as ember on the surface.
Dry doesn't mean moisture content is zero. But they didn't soak the timber in water either. But no natural timber is wet when they are used to build such a great building. And they don't build it not expecting fire so they make sure about that. Architects are smart so trust them. Here dry means much less moisture content. Yet timber does not burn as you expect.
This is the property of wood - see the comment https://np.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/bkicml/german_craftsman_proves_notre_dame_fire_wasnt_an/emh1q6x/?context=3
A thick, century-old piece of oak definitely requires far far more effort to incinerate than the kind of wood I use in a fireplace or bonfire (maybe dried for two to ten years, and certainly not charred for fire resistance.
And when starting a bonfire, if all your firewood comes in big pieces, you need a good construction and kindling to get it started.
Have these retards never built a campfire? You'll never get a big log to burn, you start with tinder and use increasingly thicker twigs. Of course a huge beam won't immediately catch fire when you hold a torch against it, nobody claims it did.
Starting a campfire with a lighter isn't hard, doing it without any tools is black magic imo. I've tried a few times but always just gotten bored and grabbed a lighter.
Some pseudo survivalist types like to use some kind of Flint tool that makes sparks, I'm like come on, if you're bringing tools anyway you may as well grab a damn lighter and save yourself some trouble. You're not going to run out of fluid unless you walk the Appalachian Trail or something.
Of course you don't go full retard and try to directly light the wood with the lighter, I think some people might be retarded to do that. Where I lived we always just used fallen leaves. You can also use various kinds of wood, like if you live in a piney area certain parts of the tree (mainly the stump and knots that connect to branches) are soaked in resin which will light up like gasoline. In hick country we call this 'lighter'd'. Or you can use really thin normal wood, usually easiest just to slice out a bunch of really small pieces from a larger branch. However I pretty much never used these methods though because, come the fuck on, leaves are everywhere, no way I'm going to go find a resinous pine stump or spend a bunch of time shaving a twig into slivers when I can just pick up some leaves and throw it on the wood.
I usually bring both a lighter and Flint striker. Redundancy when in the Backcountry is good practice imo. I've never had to use the flint except for once when I lost the lighter lol
They seem to be under the impression that Notre Dame consists entirely of huge beams and literally nothing else that could serve as kindling. Oh and even though it was under renovation there is no possible way there could have been anything that could serve as an accelerant inside it.
you seem to be under the impression that the space that burned was connected with the space that regular people see when they visit the cathedral (the part that contains the benches, fabric, books, wooden statues etc.)
it is not.
they're separated by a stone ceiling, consisting of several large arches, two of which collapsed towards the end of the fire.
Whenever you mention DEW in cases like this people start mocking you, and saying things like "you mean like on star wars? pew pew pew? lolololol" as if lasers weren't invented 60 years ago.
These mongs also claim 9/11 and last years California wildfires could only have been the result of a DEW (directed-energy weapon). Well... the ones who don't think 9/11 was all CGI, or holograms, or nuclear weapons, or earthquake weapons, or...fml.
Absolute awe at this lad. TIL the World Trade Center buildings were made out of 100% steel, and nothing whatsoever that could become dust when destroyed, such as drywall or insulation.
Dude the government covered up Manhattan getting glassed. That's why there are so many immigrants there, the libs imported them after killing off the aboriginal wihites of the area with the nuke.
This just in: people who have never been outside long enough to make a campfire don't know that large, thick wooden beams don't ignite instantly and require sustained intense heat.

Tfw your wood is too dry to burn so you have to soak it in water for a while

A common way to start forest fires is to pour water over the campfire
1 zergling_Lester 2019-05-04
No joke, a lot of forest fires were started like that.

I was originally to post this first but needed to wait 8 minutes and forgot. And had to wait 8 minutes again.

Actually these videos explained by some retard PROVE that Notre Dame was set on fire by Jewish Muslims. The fire was also a hologram
1 PLUTO_HAS_COME_BACK 2019-05-04
Why do you call them retard? Do you think you're above them that far? One of them is the lead architect who was restoring Notre Dame.
You must have a PhD then. Then line to line counter what they said.

WELDING TORCHES CAN'T IGNITE WOOD BEAMS!!
1 PLUTO_HAS_COME_BACK 2019-05-04
Well, you can make it wet in anything, other than (holy) water.

Do you unironically think that wood can be too dry to burn

Oak has oil. It can dry. It's not water.

French TV round-table with the guy who was in charge of renovations and re-building the fire safety system.
As an aside: here's an interview with him, published after the fire, talks a lot about his Notre Dame work, but doesn't mention the fire at all, so I assume the interview took place right before the fire.
