Your mind is diseased. Pick a dandelion and hold it in your mouth until you feel the urge to urinate. Then, swallow the dandelion and urinate on the spot from which it was picked.
My friend, my friend he's got a knife
A statement from his former life
When he was easy but alone
Beside him was an empty throne
But what of silver silken blade
Affix his gaze, his features staid
Grasps the handle, clips the cable
One steps up, sits at his table
My friend, my friend, he's got a knife
My friend, my friend, he's got a wife
My friend, my friend, the clever ruse
Persuasion through his thoughts peruse
A hidden relic from his past
That wasn't there when he looked last
He feels it ticking like a bomb
Feeding fear, assaulting calm
Takes the object, starts the game
Moves closer to the flame
My friend, my friend, the clever ruse
My friend, my friend, he lights the fuse
My friend, my friend, he's got a knife
I've been at literally thousands of Dead, Phish, Widespread, SCI, and Rusted Root shows plus music festivals, if you combine all the tickets and nights going back 4 decades. I lost track of the exact count a long time ago, but it has to add up to at between 1500 and 2000 at this point. And that doesn't include the other greats, like Jewel, Tori, Alison, p-funk, marley, most all the great roots reggae, I've made it a priority and privilege to enjoy live.
Nice. Never saw Phish, I was at Rothbury 09 and saw Dead. Bit of a weird thing to say on Drama, but I’ve sort of been a long-time fan of UM. Only gone to maybe 20 shows though. I will love that band until the day I die.
Umphreys is good, I've only seen them at festivals, and not individually, and I tend to enjoy the more mellow sides of the genre, whereas they take things a little more up tempo and aggressive for my taste, but they definitely have their place in the pantheon of jam band/improvisational rock.
I come from death metal/bebop background, so aggressive is usually my flavor. That being said, one of the five or so incredible musicians I grew up with once said: “UM is at their best when they are being really ambient or dancey”. I hated that at the time but he really was right.

Have you checked out Pigeons Playing Pingpong? They're my new favorite jam band

Been there too! In one of my more drunken, embarrassing moments I was having sex on the lawn at Walnut Creek Amphitheater during a dmb show

Luckily it was packed show, and long before the camera phone/social media generations, so it went unnoticed.

You don't like a 26 minute "song"?

I actually do. I’m a filthy crypto-wook. I’m sorry.
