jesus fuck, you people. I've now unsubscribed, which is a shame, because a lot of greentexts are genuinely funny, but this alt-right underbelly is just unbearable.
Genuinely sorry to fight you on this, but I don’t think anyone can create an argument for this scene + the show’s integrity using existing sources. Especially for something like artistic integrity; would a source just be D&D saying they believe in artistic integrity? Seems like something that can be said by any writer.
Not trying to be combative with you specifically, but these threads can turn into really nit-picky discussions with people from both sides of an argument trying to undermine the other (i.e. asking for sources for something ambiguous; I don’t think you’re trying to undermine anyone here but I feel like this coffee cup thing is going to become a legitimate debate in this sub so I want to comment now and avoid commenting later)
It’s either marketing or a blunder, and right now I don’t think a source exists that can convince anyone of anything. You’re right that in marketing it’s considered there is no bad buzz, so for Starbucks it makes sense.
Personally, I see it as:
This is a massive undertaking of a show. For us to assume everything that happens in the show, either in production or in the final product, has some binary “this happened so it must mean this” is sometimes frivolous and can lead to toxicity. I think, yeah, the writers/crew discuss every scene in depth but I also think that mistakes can be made (like this cup, and maybe this season depending on how the show plays out. I also think that they can retroactively make this season top-tier with the next two episodes, even though I don’t expect that and am happy with the season so far).
This show definitely has artistic integrity as evidence by every episode before it though. Whether viewers think the writers missed or not at points throughout, it has been seemingly executed to the best of the creators’ ability.
Either way, I love that the show has created this type of discussion (Well not the cup... but the other shit we pick apart). I just wish people could discuss/defend flaws without using some of the toxic rhetoric that is common on Reddit.
I believe the cup was just a mistake, and they wouldn’t sacrifice the show’s integrity in this way. However, I could also be wrong. Though, it would be a weird advertisement because it is doesn’t seem clear that it’s a Starbucks cup.
It’s all conjecture until we hear otherwise. Let’s (not you OP) not argue intensely over a cup, until we know more at least.
/u/B-BoyStance, how do you feel after putting in more effort to write about a coffee cup than I did my entire college life?
I'm not sure which is funnier, the fact that they have become so lazy (with the writing and otherwise) that they left a coffee cup in the scene, or the fact that the entire r/got subreddit is sperging out over how one of the dragons just got instagibbed out of the blue.
Literally, "heh the plebs had no idea Daddy Stark was gonna die in S1, this show is amazing because it completely subverts expectations" to "THEY DIDN'T DO WHAT I THOUGHT THEY WOULD DO REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"
Book grognards who moan about cliched plots were literally raging over the show getting the genetic super villain good vs evil plot over and done with not at the very end and the prophesied hero not being the one to deliver the killing blow

Does anyone else feel sick?!
Imagine getting this worked up over a poorly-written Dungeons and Dragons campaign masquerading as softcore porn.

Tyrion admitting he’s been cucked for 5 years seems appropriate.

The only good parts were the dragons, so I understand being angry about less dragons.
